The Visual Kei scene is very broad. You'll find everything from pop rock to deathcore, sometimes in the same band, sometimes in the same song. Imagery ranges from gore and horror themes to full crossdress and androgyny. The music never takes second place though.
The scene itself is small and volatile. Bands often don't last 12 months, band members can disappear and reappear with a different look, name, and in a totally different genre.
Contrary to popular belief it's not a well regarded scene in Japan. Just like otaku is actually an insult in Japan, association with Visual Kei can carry stigma. Many bands leave the scene entirely to try to get more reach, not so much the other way around.
In spite of that, the fanbase is strong, there's a solid tour circuit, and growing international interest is helping things. Especially post covid lockdowns that seriously impacted the scene.
Most of the bands are independent and some are even self financed, yet you wouldn't guess that from their videos and production.
Anyway, it's a fantastic scene, rule defying in many ways especially the obvious of destroying genre conventions.
Here's a little band I really like, Kebyo. There latest single, absolutely nothing like Jiluka. Lol.

Its always nice to see people reaction to Visual Kei. I ve been listening to it for more than 15 years now, Jiluka and Dexcore are part of my favortie bands.
You should try either Omelas, Mephistos or Lethal Affliction by Jiluka.
They might be as heavy, but you should try out XANVALA , either ジャノメ or Creeper.

You might like to try some Dir En Grey. Diabolos might be a good one to start with.
I agree, Ablaze should be the next song with Jiluka. And I have another suggestion för you too. Check out the chinese VK-band called Scarlet Horizon with their song Crown. They really deserve more attention.

They're all males they look like girls because they're using Visual Kei fashion. Its widely used by lots of Japanese metal bands like dexcore and deviloof.
