  • For Fun's Sake Expedition of the Inside Passage, Episode 08.
In this special edition episode of the For Fun's Sake Expedition of the Inside Passage, we take you through the entire process of finding and setting up a campsite.
We show you how we choose a potential site, the criteria we look for, how to stay bear-aware, how to set up our tent and hammock, and the individual roles we each take responsibility for. Everything from what we eat, what we wear, how we spend our downtime and how to not get eaten by a bear!
We also walk you through all the gear and equipment needed for a sea kayaking expedition of this scale.
This episode highlights some of our favourite campsites over the 72-day kayak expedition to Alaska.
    Hope you enjoy!

I've done two solo kayak trips on the inside passage from the San Juans to Skagway - 10 weeks the first trip and 14 weeks the second. The first trip was the classic route with near perfect weather. The second trip was more typical weather and I made three side trips to tidewater glaciers and up to Glacier Bay N.P. Both the wildlife and primitive camping is spectacular. I know what you mean - I got up in the morning a couple times to find that the water was 1/4 mile away. The tides up there are world class.

Epic! I really wanted to visit Glacier Bay but unfortunately time did not allow - next time! We had one bad morning with the water being ridiculously far away. Took us 5-6 legs to get the boats to it

These videos are soooo great and deserve way more traction than they are getting. I don’t want them to end. Any more expeditions up your sleeves? Maybe you are on one now😁🤞

Thank you! I'm sure that will come in due time.
Happy to show our friends and family what we've been up to, and some new folks from around the world!
I'm (Chris) focusing on the group expeditions I lead which will be in Mexico and Belize next year. We will be doing another one together at some point down the line, maybe 2-3 years. Haven't finished editing this one yet though!

    Interesting and informative video.
Nice that Blue Dog was a sponsor. I took my Level 1 kayaking course with them a few years ago out of Mill Bay. Definitely recommend them.

I loved your whole series, thank you for making it! One random question: I'm curious who made your tarp? It looks perfect for a camp kitchen! Planning a (much less ambitious!) expedition this summer and would love to get something similar, but haven't found any shaped like yours!

Hey thanks so much Doug! Nuka said it's from MEC, he's had it for awhile so not sure on any other details

Enjoyed the episode which I am finding late in the game. Will be catching up with the missed ones and you may have already covered this but I’m wondering about how you keep your electronics powered up during the journey. How long does your charger last before needing a recharge?

    • @global_shenanigans
      @global_shenanigans  Год назад +2

It doesn't matter when you start, the videos will be here forever!
      Great question.
We had a power bank each. x3 drone batteries and I think Nuka had spare batteries for his camera.
The main thing was more to do with limiting usage. Only film what's necessary. We had surprisingly little throw away footage because we were very sure to know what did or did not need to be filmed. So we always made the battaries last.
We would then find a pub at each town in order to... recharge

Oh, I’ll definitely be catching up on the other episodes!
Thanks for the info on the charging and photography management. I tend to take photos and videos of everything on my kayaking and outdoor adventures just because I can! Hence, the 90,000 photos and full iPhone! 😆

I have to ask...in this episode (great by the way), where and who is the whistling singer and song?
