  • Apologies for the quality of this, but I guessed some people would still prefer to see it rather than not at all. Video has been cobbled together from various sources to include all the known footage I've seen of this match.

    Alex the ultimate enigma, but there is something incredible graceful about watching Jimmy at his prime in full flow. He reminds me of Federer on a tennis court. Creative flare flowing in from every shot. Beautiful.

    Sheer joy revisiting one of the greatest matches of snooker ever played by two of the greatest players in Alex Higgins & Jimmy White,
    As a 11yr old kid watching this late night i never forgot the moment & the greatest under pressure break by a player in saving the match in the 30th frame with a epic 69 break clearance !
    As a huge Alex Higgins fan, him winning the world title in 1982 was one of the greatest moments in the game, the Peoples Champion he was !
    Alex Hurricane Higgins !!!

    MJT, mate, I can't speak for others - they've clearly spoken for themselves - but for myself, as a snooker fan, a snooker historian, a snooker enthusiast, a snooker archivist...if all that remained of a once-broadcast match was a single pixel on a white screen, I'd rather see it than for it to be hidden away. So you can probably tell what I think about three hours of the most celebrated Crucible semi-final ever played! I mean, away from that side of it, people forget that Jimmy wasn't yet 20 here; a teenager in the semi-finals of the World Championship. That, in itself, was incredible.

    Watched this in 82 well bits of it i was 5 years old at the time and from that day it was always jimmy who i liked best and Alex came a close second. When you think at the time jimmy was just still 19 years old such a great player to watch and still going

    Both players poetry in motion and I could watch this every minute of the day. White was simply outstanding and both played the game as it should be.

      One of the greatest semi finals ever played. A 4 frame lead was the furthest that occurred. When Jimmy lead 8-4. From then on it swung back and forth....Till that memorable break of 69..

    Oh frame 30,Higgins 69,the greatest break ever still can't believe 41 years later how he cleared that lot,balls everywhere nearby impossible to clear that,Barry Hearn has said it was a 50-1 chance,i'd say 100-1 brilliant ❤

    It may be exciting but it’s amazingly careless at times. I think the Reardon/Charlton semi-final was probably played to a higher standard on the whole.

    • @dvidclapperton
      @dvidclapperton Год назад

      Reardon had 4-0 head to head vs White 1982 to 1983 and had 3-0 head to head vs White in 1982 alone, so those who claim the world champion that year would have come from this semi final whoever won are talking silly buggers.
      Reardon beat White 10-5 in the ranking Professional Players tournament in 1982. Reardon beat White at both the 1982 UK Championship and 1983 Masters in the same season to prove that White wouldn't definitely have beaten Reardon had he got to the final instead of Higgins. Reardon was 15-15 with Higgins in the final after all, so I could see that White could very well have lost to Reardon had it not been for Higgins incredible break.
