Instantly Do More Pullups (Simple Hack)

- Try this easy "hack" to instantly do more pullups!
A brief, intense isometric warmup like this puts a HIGH amount of force through our body and primes it for heavy loads.
This makes our regular set seem easy.
This was taught to me as the "immediate after-effect" of isometrics, but I can't find anywhere that corroborates that.
Call it the "oogabooga effect" if you want. It does seem to really help.
The time numbers are not set in stone. I suspect they depend on the individual's conditioning. Try shorter holds and different rest times if you like and let me know how it works for you!

When i saw the title, i thought you had just joined the clickbait army or something. Luckily, instead i just learned something new, useful!👏
@@axelbaksel6595 yes, I actually spent a while thinking about how to title this.
I wanted it to be accurate, but also interesting enough that people think it's actually worthwhile.
"Do this 5 minute warmup to increase your pullup numbers" makes it sound like I'm just going to recommend stretching etc.
Open to feedback, but at the end of the day, it's a 41 second video. So even if someone hates it, they didn't waste THAT much time, haha.
Oh man I love the oogabooga effect
@@HybridCalisthenics i think it was a good title, sounds clickbaitey but was actually true/justified
This effect isn't limited to isometrics - for instance with weight training, if you do a heavy single rep (90% of your max) before a working set of multiple reps (at lower weights, around 60-85% of your max), then the working set will feel easier and you might get a few extra reps.
I'm a treeologist and I can 100% confirm that is in fact, a tree.
thanks for the confirmation, I was really unsure about this!
writing from 3022 here. Thanks for confirming proffesor bruh. I've never seen a tree before!
@@YZKMNY that went dark
No way can’t believe it wrong false fake news untrue lies incorrect nope
@@YZKMNY Yikes
I actually did this 3 minutes before doing pull ups and my pull up was so explosive that I launched myself off of the bar and into a nearby tree
wow have to be careful with that amount of strength 😂
@Abudy Awad 😂😂
Baki Is that you?
Thank God your muscle memory worked and you caught yourself in the perfect isometric hold you warmed up with
@@oliverstone61296 correct, I'm actually still up here, typing this now with my feet
On an unrelated note, do you have any tutorials on how to get down from trees?
This man is the Bob Ross of working out istg he should have a series called the joys of lifting or something
dude that's the greatest idea I've read today 😂
The gains of happiness
istg? Geez I don't know if people are making typos or just trying to save seconds by not spelling out the words 🙃
You're absolutely right tho!
What an awesome idea
@@ironclad452 yeah it's to save seconds. I always type istfg
The tree: dude you actually fixed a dislocated disk
trees with skeletons sound terrifying xD thanks for putting the image in my head
@cabbage-soup Meet the Ents.
Tried your suggestiong and my tree saw a noticeable improvement on its reps range. Thank you!
haha I love those comments 😂
@TwigZ G yeah exactly... trees can't do pull ups...
@@AnthonyGruba HEY! You are hurting my tree's feelings

I work at a restaurant he occasionally comes to, nicest guy I've had the pleasure to meet!
"Can't do full pull-ups YET" that is very inspiring
U can do it mate, train with consistency, do negative pull ups, scapula pull ups, australian pull ups, try using a resistance band, sleep well and get your nutritions well. I hope this will help you, don't give up
@@izakonj4969 yes :)
You can, man. It took me 2 years since I started until I actually started seriously with pull. Several weeks ago, I was able to do 4 reps :')
Hey man, it’s 6 months later, have you cracked it yet?
Man, I like this guy. He actively discusses with his viewers who give their input/opinions on the current topic and is pretty broad minded too.
Please shut up
This guy is legit one of the best rolemodels out there.
“As hard as you safely can” is actually a really good line, I’m stealing that one
Instructions unclear, i ended up breaking my neighbor’s tree.
Maybe you don't need the extra strength
Definitely going to share this with my fellow Marines to use for the PFTs coming up.
I love this guy. He always says “hey there friend!” Makes my day
I love how he starts with saying "Hello friend!" It's so friendly!
Great video !!!
Love your videos 😊
This is a grip we use in pole dance! I never knew it was secretly allowing me to do more pull ups if I do them after
What’s up
I mean, it kinda makes sense. Pole dancing requires a fuckton of strength and body control, and pull-ups train exactly that for your upper body. Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if some pole dancers could throw a punch or kick harder than a bouncer XD
Thanks for the tips. I was able to do the most pull-ups of anyone in my company in boot camp thanks to your inspiration.
How many did you do?
@@johannes01 43 :)

@@neildodd1319 wow that's crazy I can only do 6 and I've been tried to em for about 2 month ago
@@neildodd1319 woow that’s awesome!
"Feel free to experiment with different angles and timings"
This right here, this is the reason you are now the GOAT trainer in my eyes. So many 'certified' trainers don't consider this one thing. It took almost a decade to realize that varying timings and angles is key to real 'shock' and growth (outside of nutrition, rest and consistency of course).
Dude. You are seriously the goat. Thank you for being awesome!
What a nice guy
this guy literally makes my day and i have absolutely no idea why
lmao same
You're a chill guy, I like what you do man.
One more thing to add to my "being a weird neighbor" list
this is the most wholesome man in existence
Due to disability I’m never going to able to do most of what he can do but I love watching these videos because of how kind and positive he is and unlike some other videos by other people I don’t even feel bad I can’t do most of what he’s teaching but I still love his videos. Btw in no way do I feel others intend making someone with a disability feel bad in any way or come across as unkind people it’s that this guy has such an awesome vibe about him if that makes sense.
Shots fired across time
Just when i needed
This guy is so cool, he's relaxing and also giving good advices, never felt that calm looking at pull ups advices
Plsss do these kinda videos more often❤️
Agreed!
You are the best, have a beautiful day as well!!
You are so sympathetic and placid.
Keep what you're doing!!!
Dude, you are just a legend
I've noticed this a few times before doing pushups and just pushing againts the wall before doing them, why does this work lol seems like such a random thing.
I pinned an explanation! Isometrics are an INCREDIBLE tool for warm-ups (and more) but I think people ignore them because they somehow think of it as a party trick.
@@HybridCalisthenics Oh lol my bad, there wasn't a pinned comment by the time I commented, thanks for the explanation!
Does anyone know why I have upper shoulder and lower back pain after I do 10 push ups every morning right when I wake up? Could it just be bad posture, or is it more than that?? Anyone got any ideas or suggestions please??
@@bayarea4153 well if you do have bad posture you should probably try to fix it. But if push-ups are the very first thing you do in the morning, then it's probably a lack of stretching that's the cause. I always move my wrists, arms, shoulders, back and legs around before I start exercising. You should warm up first. Your body has been inactive for ~7 hours, and then you go straight to pushups? It's a recipe for injury.
@@thecodingfoundation tru and then I go work outside in the bipolar weather where it’ll be cold af and then hot and I’m outside tossing bags of concrete lol, makes sense. The push ups we’re supposed to help me wake up and have more self motivation Bc I never exercised before
Thanks for all your vids hampton😁

I love how at the end of the video the tree looked bent
Was that treeologist joke a dig at SCOTUS nominee? Cause if so, it was funny af
This guy seems so nice
loved the video hamtatoe!
*Goodmorning/night Hampton, thank you for this advice, but do you think it works with muscle ups?*
Yes this works for everything. The closer the angle of joints are to your "sticking point" (like where most people get stuck on the muscle up), the greater the effect.
@@HybridCalisthenics thank you I hope this increase my muscle ups reps.
Thanks I’ll try this next time

That tree was like, bruh!!!
The treeologist comment had me giggling for sure. I love you dude, thanks for brightening our day :)
Gangsta till he bend the tree
Bro is too “scared to get cancelled” to assume that as a tree
this is PAP (post activation potentiation), PAP describes the phosphorylation of myosin regulatory light chains by MLC-Kinase which makes them more sensitive to contraction via Ca2+ (beneficial bc MLC-phosphatase reverses the phosphorylation between sets quite often in intense movements), you can do this on pretty much any exercise ever to squeeze out a bit more good reps, particularly useful for powerlifters 👍
Thank you.
Dude I appreciate your knowledge.👍 Thank you
Isn't it a bit weird for the tree?
Trees need hugs too. ❤❤❤
Thanks friend
I'm so gealous on the ease of you doing various sorts of exercises. Like 0 sweat? 0 face distortion when doing pull ups? The calmness... Wow... Your atitudine is my living dream 😂 I'm at the opposite poll rn
