    I deeply appreciate these “TT”s - they are amazingly helpful for me taking a new deep dive into music I have loved all my life but always felt I’d never be able to play. Thank you so much for doing such an excellent job of demystifying these wonderful musical gems and opening a doorway for those of us who are interested in learning these guitar parts. If you’re inspired to do more, I’d be especially thrilled to see Jack-A-Lynn, Rocks On the Road, Only Solitaire, Dun Ringill, Sossity... and even if you never do any of those, you’ve already given a huge gift here to me and I am sure many others. Thanks so much :-)

    First some real kind greetings from Germany.
    I belong to that generation, who grew up with the music of Jethro Tull. When the "too old to rock n roll" album was released, I had the honor to meet Ian Anderson at the band's German record company. I was bewildered, that he smoked that much but could play the flute the way he did.
    meanwhile, I spend a couple of hours on your account. I only have mediocre talent when it comes to playing guitar, and I never even came close to that sound of Ian's guitar technique. But your tutorials help me so much to understand Ian's unique guitar skills and the brilliance of his compositions. It is amazing watching you play and explain the songs step by step. It is so enviable how you play all that stuff on your fine guitars.
    So thank you very much for what you are sharing here, it`s a real treasure trove for me

      From u.k.
      People say they like other Tull albums as their number one.
      I think they say that to be awkward, Aqualung an absolute
      masterpiece!
      Certainly hit me just at the right age, some of the best
      Acoustic tracks of all time!
      Bloody intricate to play, I know that.
      Saw Martin Barre a couple of years back, small venue
      and close.
      A staggering musician!

As a humble suggestion, I usually enjoy listening to the song being played by the video author before the tutorial start per se, so listening to you playing the song before the tutorial would make, IMO, the video more enjoyable. I read that Ian said Fat Man was played on some three string instrument he bought from a pawn shop. I always wondered because it didn't sound like either a guitar or a mandolin.

      @axoltl1 3 года назад

      @@snoozedoctor Here's a video of them performing it live: ruclips.net/video/wVbDKB1TtEQ/видео.html. Perhaps you can figure out what the instrument is from here. It looks like a mandolin with a slightly more guitar-ish body shape to me. Although it could be that the version on the recording was played with the mystery pawn shop instrument and later versions with a mandolin.

    • @snoozedoctor
      @snoozedoctor  3 года назад

      @@axoltl1 Wow. How good is Pegg on the bass?!!! Yeah, both Ian and Martin are playing traditional mandolins. Martin is playing the high melody while Ian is mostly strumming the chords. I just read an interview in which Ian said he wrote Fat Man on a mando. I think he used the other instrument just for the high part which Martin is playing on the other mando.

    Thank you especially for explaining the intro so carefully which I long ago gave up on. Might I suggest that you add Martin's tasty little blue's lick after the "soft shoe shuffle dance" lyric. It's really easy to meld it in after the Em shape on the 3rd and 4th strings and adds a nice spicy nuance.

  • @Robbo57

    I know you're a perfectionist but I personally prefer fingerpicking this one as in the opening piece it allows you to play both E strings together. Also the line goes and you sadly wonder rather than ask yourself. But you are much more accurate. Many thanks for this tutorial and please ignore my suggestions if you find them irritating. I love acoustic Tull. Best wishes.

    • @snoozedoctor
      @snoozedoctor  4 года назад +1

      Because I'm more a fingerpicker, I'd rather play it that way too. Much easier for me. I've only got back in to using a plectrum because of these tunes. Ian handles the thing deftly. Haha, I continually have to check myself on that lyric. If I'm not concentrating on it, I always get it wrong for some reason. :)

      I love playing with a capo. If you ever have a guitar with high action and stiff strings, just tune the whole guitar down a whole step and put the capo on the 2nd fret. Then you're playing at normal pitch with much easier fingering.

    I appreciate this, and please don't take this as harsh criticism, but you should keep in mind that people watching these videos can go back and replay whatever part they need to revisit as many times as they want to... So you don't need to repeat something that you've covered... I know that when you're showing someone in person, it's different, but in a video, you should just cover something once, and move on... 😉
