@@MowerJunkie if you come across a Midland 7001 precision series 1981 82 or before let me know it doesn't matter if it is the American one with two digit channel screen or the export one with frequency counter.
Love the looks of the older radios, love the fact that it still works... kind of... I enjoy the channel variety... would be interesting to see what it would do, fully functional.
I owned one years ago. That used to be in the late 70's the California Highway Patrol equipped their patrol vehicles. That Ch9 scan was handy. They listen to CH 17 for the trucker traffic and when someone transmitted on CH9 it would beep and switch over. (Think of it like a priority ch. on scanners).
Mine had cold solder joints on the PLL board. That's how I fixed it. You will also need to relax the AMC, but not disable it by pulling D603. Leave D604 in place. Adjust your modulation at R622. The thing has a killer mic preamp once this is done. Also, change C310 from .0022 to .22 and listen to the tinny receive audio come alive! Definitely my favorite AM only radio!
I have a lot of old radios. when it started to go out of style I had all kinds of people giving them to me. now the supply was there. I was a barber and my customers would give them to me I have not seen this one.
Most definitely new capacitors if that’s what it’s doing when you first turned it on! Also check the PC board, to make sure none of the electrolytic caps leaked out and damage the board, you know how that stuff love Copper
4/24/21 We had 1a those,Ihad a tech peak&tweak it and I wired up a Astatic 636L for it and that brought the modulation to life.Maybee those pluged up holes might be to get to veriable pots or resistors with out taking off the lid??Look and see what the line up too.My Brother did a lot of mud ducking on his aircommand.Brings back good mems seeing your demoJohn.
Nice looking rig, now I'm old school so prefer a needle meter. PS.. Turn the squelch up and the scan will work.. PPS... Standard who where bought out by Yaesu used the same mic on their VHF/UHF gear...
Great show and interesting Radio. Never seen one up close. I still own my 1977 Marantz am/FM I often thought they made the best. But never knew they made CB Radios.
I was also surprised they made this radio. I think they wanted to keep it a secret, they did not put their name any where on it. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.
@@MowerJunkie Again I thank you for getting me back into the CB. I started watching last year and it got me motivated. I got it all up and running again and have added a few radios LOL. It's taken a year to get it back and better. New antennas and coaxial etc. etc. Hearing some new stations in my area and a local quarry about 25 miles away talk with trucks etc, Really cool. When the skip is in I am trying but seem to bounce to the midwest rather than south. Still listening for you 155. 73's from Northern Adirondack's NY 202.
Channel 9 has been booming with Mexicans on and off here in Iowa. I'VE been thinking of translation software to figure out the excitement. They do like their noise makers.
Very cool radio! Marantz was a great company when it came to audio equipment. I have a Marantz 2226 stereo receiver that sounds incredible. CB radio and amateur radio is a great hobby! I love watching your videos Mower Junkie they are always very interesting! hope to someday make a contact with you on skip 73s
Nice old radio's, I just dug up my old one's from way back, a Cobra 29XLR 40 ch, Panasonic 23 ch, model RJ- 3200, A Robyn radio with added extra 40 and USB/LSB, and my Antron ??? antenna, nothing is connected yet. have a great day
Usualley when i picked up an old cb i would spray contact cleaner on all controles one was a realastic very small squelsh and volume didnt work took the smalest screwdriver and drilled a hole in the sealed channel selector switch kept spraying contact cleaner fixed it i still have itand still works
Get some "Crystal clear" packing tape, and recover that tag and it will stay "new". that pa/cb switch may be PA/ MONITOR ON PA SPKR/ CB Have a great day
I’m looking at this same radio right now......it’s missing a diode I think. It’s labeled D331 and is located where the power comes in. I don’t know what to replace that diode with. I suspect it was hooked up with reversed polarity at one time and the diode blew. Any repair advice would be helpful. Thx. The diode is under that silver plate at the time of 9:26 in the video.
@@MowerJunkie I did find a diode to put in but it seems to have a lot of other issues as well. Thanks for the reply though and maybe I’ll get lucky and figure this radio out another time.
MJ, could you help me? I have the same CB Superscope Aircommand CB-640 it was in my 1975 Trans Am and I found it in a cabinet and it's been in this cabinet for for I think back in the late 1980 or 1990; it's been in storage in the dark dry cabinet and I'd like to use it in my pickup truck do you think it will work after so many years of not being used. I loved it back in the 1970s and like to use it again, I'm hearing that CBs are slowly making a come back is that true.
CB's have made a huge comeback, put some power to that old radio and join in on the fun. in my area we have a lot of locals, and during the the day skip has been very strong, with a lot of good radio operators on the air.
I got radio in 2013 from friend had not used since 1994 year it Realistic TRC -428 Nine Scan also came every thing almost but no bracket but came with original stock black RS mic and 1970's brown TRC 48 stock mic need rewired to ! Lube up 5 switches they were dirty plus wouldn't move and Channels selector control on circuit boards too ! I had replacement the SWR Cal potential controls rust up tight couldn't turn at all ! So fire up on my power supply and took 8 hours warm up get going and now 30 mins to hour get going fully but when turn it half transmit or receive with quietness and till warm up then you hear distance hiss now it all okay! I had tried finding out how does that and took my electric radio tech and he said old age Lol also live with it or scrap it! But still use every few months plus excellent radio plus radio got full receive when now mic hook up and brown microphone does excellent to and black one !
