  • Namaste to one and all.
    For the sixth edition of my "Disney's multi-lingual singers" series I present before you, the powerhouse German songstress, Ms. @HAPPYnewSPIRIT!
    Fluently bilingual in German and English, with decent knowledge of French and Spanish, Ms. Wilcke has been a dubbing artist for over three decades in Germany, a world in which got her kick-start right off the bat with three major Disney roles - Nala (The Lion King), Pocahontas and Snow White (in the THIRD German dubbed version) in the mid-90s! And....she has never stopped dubbing ever since, with many reputed Hollywood film actresses heard with her voice - from Gal Gadot to Miranda Otto, Gong Li, Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter and the list can go on.
    Apart from that she is a celebrated theatre artist and has sung numerous hymns, chants and several religious songs as well. And perhaps to some people's surprise, she has a special affinity to India, thanks to her admiration of Hindu Guru Shri Paramahansa Yogananda Ji. Hence, she released an entire album dedicated to Yogananda Ji, whose partial proceeds go to the functioning of the Hariharananda Balashram school in the Indian state of Odisha, and she has ALSO appeared on Indian television screens singing Mahatma Gandhi's favorite bhajan "Vaishnav Jana To" on ocassion of his 150th birthday on October 2, 2019!
    A special thanks to Ms. Wilcke for taking out time to talk to me and helping me get a lot of the clips featured here. She has actually encountered many more languages while dubbing for small lines in series and films, however, the following 9 languages (in which she covers 4 language families) are where she has sung entire verses of hymns, prayers or songs: -
    1. German
    2. English
    3. French
    4. Gujarati
    5. Latin
    6. Sanskrit
    7. Spanish
    8. Tibetan
    9. Yiddish
    So, which of these languages were you surprised to hear her singing in? How is her pronunciation in your language? Do you think she could be a Disney Princess voice in your language? Do let me know in the comments below and enjoy the video.
    Also; feel free to check out Ms. Wilcke's website or her facebook page through the following links for more of her singing and other ventures: -

    Alexandra is definitely one of my favorite singers in German dubbings. Her voice is powerful and energetic but also elegant when needed to be. I'm also surprised in how many different languages she can sing in though I wish she would one day sing in Finnish, my native language ❤

    One of Disney DE's most precious pearls ❤
    She's clicked with me at once with her haunting voice and with ALL the power she has! Definitely a voice Mother Nature would have. What's even more incredible is the consistency she keeps in so many different languages too, a real königin 🥺

    Without a doubt, the greatest German voice to bless Disney, if not one of the greatest ever. It is amazing to see how talented she is outside her native language. Hopefully we will get to hear even more of her wonderful voice for years to come. ❤

    Alexandra's angelic, Siren-like voice caught me off guard. She reminds me of Christine from The Phantom of the Opera, and I think she'd be an excellent choice for the role! Her performance in "In the Land Beyond My Dreams" is fantastic. I'm glad that she was cast as Pocahontas; she is definitely one of the best Pocahontas voices, in my opinion. This made me want to hear her sing in Thai; I'm sure it would be amazing XD

    Oh, Alexandra. I'll always love her Nala and Pocahontas. It surprises me to see her sing in Indian languages like Gujarati and Sanskrit. Her Tibetan sounded relaxing and otherworldly in some way.

    Alexandra was definitely the one who made me fall in love with the German dubbings. Such a legendary voice, powerful, but still sweet. Plus it's also amazing in how many languages she can sing. If you read this miss Wilcke, how about trying Dutch? I would love to hear you sing in my mother tongue.

    She has a lovely voice. She'd be perfect for a movie that needs angelic vocals, akin to those of Lisa Gerrard or the late Ofra Haza.

    Alexandra Wilcke, a legend of Disney dubbings ! Her voice is so earthy, so full of emotions, a wonderful artist I cherish :) It was so cool discovering her singing in several languages, especially the Gujarati clip ! :) What is the french song she's singing ? It must be an aria from an opera or something like that, since she's rolling the "r", as singers used to do formerly.

    • @rishabhrox1
      @rishabhrox1  2 года назад

      The French song she sang is called "Après Un Rêve", which is a part of the "Trois mélodies" composition of Gabriel Fauré. It is a "mélodie" type song, which wikipedia says is similar to Germany's "Lied", so I think it's a Classical recitation. ;)

    Oh my gosh, she knows Yiddish?!
    My mind is blown. I’m trying to learn this language because I am Jewish and this language is in many songs that I have in my songbooks for my piano that I have the ability to play and to learn.

    One of my favorite German voices (and female Disney singer overall) 🥰 She sounds amazing in all languages but her Latin song definitely stands out to me ☺ All I can say about her pronounciation is "I wouldn't have known she was singing in French in her extract if you hadn't written it ^^", probably because she sings in a very operatic manner and I have no idea what French opera lyrics mean anyway, the sounds are so different from nowadays... I mean, I had to be told by an American colleague that Carmen, one of our most iconic operas, was in French 😅

    • @rishabhrox1
      @rishabhrox1  Год назад +1

      Of all the languages in which operas are commonly performed I only know English and I can definitely tell you, operatic English sounds as intelligible as Italian to me. XDD
      Can't understand anything without subtitles! I guess it has something to do with their singing technique, they make their vowels sound more dragged and bigger, plus the luscious vibrato laced on top of each word, it's probably pleasant for the ears musically, but a nightmare to detect words. XD
      Do agree on the Latin part standing out, because there's no instrumentation in it, and yet, her voice seems to completely fill the space, so much so that one doesn't miss the lack of instruments, I certainly don't haha. Thanks for watching.
