Zoom and FOV are the same. This is a 'dolly zoom', he's moving the camera forwards and zooming out (increasing FOV) at the same time. You have to match the speed of both so that it looks like the subject is in the same spot.
Oh! What is that camera setting you're using!? Where the main character in focus stays in one spot but the background increases or decreases? I swear I found it like once and I can't figure out how to do it again. I've been looking for it for 3 years now. I know it has nothing to do with the depth of field slide bar
Thank you! I've been trying to achieve this effect for a while now. Would you also know how to get the camera effect in SFM to focus on the distance of a background object? This is also not a case of just using the depth of field slider. Say for example Scout is the focus. Behind him is a Sniper. Sniper looks incredibly close but when you "zoom out" scout is still in the same spot but we have a different perspective that Sniper is actually a good distance away from him. I've seen other SFM videos do this and I can't figure out for the life of me how to achieve that effect.
10000 internets to you good sir, for creating possibly the most hilariously anticlimatic I've seen since Meet the Pyro
youtube really gonna recommend this to me 8 years later huh
dam i wanted to try this out as soon as i signed up for the beta guess ill just cross my fingers and hope i get it soon
Nice job, now I know how that effect is made! Looks like there's shadow movement around 0:09. What is that from?
Best video of 2012. woo!
Dude his looks amazing :o

Is scout getting bigger, or the room getting smaller?
That camera trick at the beginning, is it like fov out and zoom in? Or fov in and zoom out?
This made me smile. :)
Oh god. I don't know why, but expecting a screamer, I flinched when he laughed.
Now that's just down right adorable.
please make more.. like 10 minute ones :D this is good
how do you change the focus on the camera?
pretty funny and well done :D

Nico Simmer I’m zooming out while dollying the camera closer the subject. It’s called a trombone shot. Cheers!
