I’m 50 and became obsessed with this song when it came out and have done the journey and Nate’s music has helped me so much over the last several years! My husband and 3 daughters in their twenties have anxiety/ocd/depression and listening to his music has helped me better understand what they are going thru and also better understand my own frustrations as well (sometimes not being able to help them). Hang in there and stay positive-good things will head your way with a positive outlook and drive!
Gotcha beat... I'm 63 going on 30 (wink wink nod nod) I think Nate is brilliant and has tapped into something very intimate and personal that is also relatable. I also think he has singlehandedly ushered in new are of awareness and self reflection about mental health and human frailty. I'm a metal head from waaay back and over the last couple months have opened my mind to other genres, styles and tastes. I've never really excluded other music styles, just never actively sought them out. So by accident I stumbled onto Nate, Ren and a couple others... really opened a couple veins. I'm a vet that had a relatively boring career. My journey, like so many, started with my first lucid memory of my father and mother splitting up. I was 3. My mom remarried shortly afterward and the man has been my Dad since. The problem arising from that is a stoic father and 20 repeated traumas. I changed elementary schools 20 times. My Dad, through his modeling, discouraged emotional exhibition. It did two things to me...made me fiercely independent (to this day) and so completely isolated that my only really heartfelt relationship is with my brother. (I have 3 brothers, one 'full' brother and 2 'half' brothers) [Don't know why I'm telling you all this] Anyway... listening to NF has enabled me to learn that I'm not alone in my trauma. Mine is eminently easier to bear than others, but to learn that others (turns out SO MANY) have many of the same fears, anxieties and pain that I do, Softens my cold, dead heart towards others. [Sorry I've rambled on]
I appreciate you continuing to react to NF and I hope his music helps with any struggles you are going through. I would suggest to watch the music video if there is one as others suggested because Nate is different with his videos in that it helps tell the story and there is so much symbolism that connects to the lyrics and other videos. The cage in the background (from "Outcast") represents the prison of his mind (fear, anger, etc.) and he's out of the cage but has the shopping cart (portable cage) with the balloons attached searching for the map to hope (you picked up on balloons = burdens and the map to hope). And yes, as you mentioned, you should definitely listen to "Change".
The Twenty One Pilots do the same things with their songs when it comes to interlinking and story telling. Very similar in the way of their message and mental health, they also don't curse in any of their music.
Many may give you a hard time not going through the NF journey "in order". Don't let the harsh insistence get to you. I first heard of NF through the songs Mansion & How Can You Leave Us before I ever discovered him on YT. I first experienced the "Journey" watching various reactors. Then, I went down the rabbit hole through various reactors' own journeys. Whether you go though it via the timeline or just randomly, just know that his whole catalog is a story starting from Mansion. Think MCU - if you start with Guardians, you may appreciate (or not!) the movie but will miss the connections unless you go back. Either way, ENJOY! "Change" off The Search Album is a MUST. It will make the CLOUDS mixtape and HOPE album more meaningful. His whole catalog (minus a few off Mansion and Therapy Session) are addicting. However long you take and however your order, you will appreciate going through his catalog! Besides, we need someone new to follow until his next album! Umm, yeah, you may want to watch the remaining seconds and then watch Leave Me Alone. 😂
Black balloons represent his burdens, the shopping trolley relates to the cage you see in the background at the beginning. You need to react to outcast to understand the cage
If I could tell you one thing please love yourself and let the anxiety go as much as you can,, If you could see how amazing you are from the outside looking in,, I’m not trying to sound like a perv 😆 but you are too cute, intelligent, and sincere and have to be a bundle of joy to anyone that comes around you because you shine on camera,, loved ❤️ the reaction and of course we would love more NF reactions.
Hey zay, outcast fam understands u for sure, but pausing to much is gonna take away from the message in the video and audio, if it wouldn't bother u, u could always do a podcast for each video and talk with the subscribers u have, I bet u would get more compliments and motivation from it than just talking to a camera, nf fans always trying to show love, this way u don't gotta pause as much... just a suggestion tho, if u don't like it just do u and keep doing it the way u want to. ❤
Every song on this album is amazing too. Leave Me Alone is the follow up to this song. Here is a little mini NF journey for you. I call it the "Black-Balloon NF mini-Journey" which is about 10 songs. Not every song has black balloons but they all relate to "burdens" and overcoming them. In order: Nate, When I Grow Up, Why, The Search, Leave Me Alone, Change, Only, I Miss the Days, Paid My Dues. Lost, Hope, Happy, Mistake, and Running.
Sorry sweetie, u cute and all & u got some good comments but after like the 7th pause and NF still hasn't made it to the top of the swing set yet. I gotta go. Good luck to u. PS...at least let NF fin a verse b4 u stop. Laters. Hugs. Mark
It's so cool how just a few songs from nf gives you the confidence to speak about your issues which is therapy. He knows what he's doing

Yes, "Changes" is a really dope song.
Hope you react to more Ren. His song with chinchilla "how to be me" the LIVE version is really good.
