Great video. I had PSC for about 10 years. Went to MELD score 40 with kidney dialysis. Finally got liver transplant at last moment. Had a near miraculous recovery and went back to work four weeks later. That was six years ago. Don’t give up. Follow your doctor’s orders, but this video is very good explaining it all.
PSC, or Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, is a chronic liver disease that affects the bile ducts. As of my latest information, there's no cure for PSC, but treatments focus on managing symptoms and complications. Here are some approaches: 1. Medication: Some drugs may help manage symptoms like itching, or treat infections associated with PSC. Ursodeoxycholic acid is sometimes used to help with bile flow, though its effectiveness can be variable. 2. Endoscopic Therapy: This can be used to open up blocked bile ducts. Techniques like endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are often employed. 3. Surgery: In some cases, surgical procedures might be necessary to relieve obstructions in the bile ducts. 4. Liver Transplantation: In advanced cases, a liver transplant may be required and is currently the only option considered to potentially cure PSC. 5. Lifestyle Changes: Eating a balanced diet, avoiding alcohol, and staying physically active might help maintain liver health. It's essential to consult with a healthcare provider for diagnosis and to discuss the most appropriate treatment options based on the individual's condition.
