      Larry
That is great advise know what kind of material you are cleaning before you use any cleaner on it. Headstones are made of many kinds of materials Limestone, Marble, Sandstone, Quarts, Rock and Granite we suggest you talk with a monument company or someone that has cleaned these type of headstones for many years. We have used an acid based cleaner for many generations on Granite but for the other's like Marble, Limestone and Sandstone we have used D2 and some time's we suggest not to clean the headstone at all so please always ask and know what will work best to clean your Families Headstone's. Never use house hold products or any headstone .

Get with the National Cemetery Guidelines! Acid causes deterioration and you then pour it straight into to water system without neutralising it first. How wacky is that?

I can’t believe that they did not say in the very beginning NEVER to use acid on any marble, slate, etc. Only on granite. That was very careless and misleading. So to be safe, use D/2 and nothing else. Won’t hurt the stone, the grass, or You!

You should have neutralized that acid with baking soda before pouring down drain! Big damage. I glad I don't share your water system! Very professional! D2 Biological Cleaner.

No way would I use any form of acid on a gravestone. Especially on an older stone if it is over 50 to 100 years old. You can never fully get the chemical rinsed off and it will continue to erode and deteriorate more rapidly over time.

You are so right! I recommend that people do their research and see what the Federal Government uses on the headstones at Arlington. It is not a caustic product. Old marble stones are extremely fragile. www.iscga.org/how-to-clean-a-gravestone.html

Great video, I just got through cleaning my great uncle and aunts headstone, wish I would have thought to look on RUclips first I use it for everything else ,auto repairs, medical conditions, etc.Needless to say it took me about 8 hrs total time, I tried everything, automotive paint rubbing compound, straight lacquer thinner,,paint remover, (LOL) at myself.Ended up using 220 grit all the way up to 800 grit wet sandpaper and small putty knifes, thank God it came out alright and I didn't damage the marble.Again great job on the video and you come across direct and clear and explain the process in nice basic way that should be understandable to most people.

Have you heard of the environment? Caustic acid is not good to use and water dilutes but does not neutralize. I am very surprised that OSHA isn't all over your company.

Very good to give people what it takes to clean family Headstones ( adding Better have access to Water or I would assume at least 3-5 -1 gal. milk jugs and similar to a painter's job and bring drop cloths or plastic for the base and throw it out when down, Rubber Gloves and a Better mask if going to be closer than 3 ft to cleaning it( thus why the Ext. Pole with a brush. ) and shoe covers to protectd your shoes from that acid.. If you have cleaned your Garage and Sidewalks around your home with M.Acid, you know and if possible? Have acces to Elextricity and Water? Just Try using a Power Washer 1st..( Bring it and at least 100 ft of hose and same fora 14/3 extens. cord
OR You might find someone In the Area of the Cemetary that does Pressure Washing from using their Truck and assuming the Cemetary will allow it.. Ck with them of course.

Marc We have tried every spray bottle, from the cheapest to the most expensive and they all have a problems when working with acid even the one that are suppose to work with acid. So there is not one that we can recommend.
      Great question thank you

Be nice to Give an approx Cost Estimate so One can hire you Pro's, not just for now, but to set up $ to be invested and have this service done in the future.. For My Families Headstones , they were $250 Each to be Pressure washed from their Truck- last Yr and est. Dble that every 25 yrs Setting Up a Trust Of $5,000 and WD 5% should do it.. If not, The Family of future Generations can Chip in to make up the Difference.. Hope this helps

If the headstone is black granite and not Marble, Limestone, Sandstone or most Natural Rock, you need to make sure you use 5 to 10 gallons of water to wash off the product you will be using.

    • @BottandSonsMonument

Acid is one of the best ways to clean "granite" headstones. As long as you follow the steps show in the video, you will NOT damage or hurt the stone.
