      Ygor Cortes weird question: how old are you? Men’s voices don’t stop changing till they’re 25 and I heard true basses develop their voice around 30s...some vocal teachers make you sing certain choral parts according to their preferences (even if you don’t have the high or low range )...where do you find is the most comfortable vocal range for you?

    I'm a top end Baritone (I've not quite got the upper extension to comfortably do tenor stuff) but I've always had a full sounding falsetto (not head voice) especially the lower it goes and the greater the support gets. So I can produce decent enough operatic sounding female sounding vocals through that. A big help as I enjoy Nightwish and that is full of female operatic sections! Cool video for sure!

      Pop music defines vocal parts by one's singable range (not hittable range, there's a difference), whereas classical vocalist defines vocal parts by one's tonal quality after projection. Simpler put, if you are an opera singer, you have one set of range where you can sing without triggering your vocal fry and can project in a 4000-people opera house. Most pop singers just call themselves the highest head-voice vocal type by gender (so tenor and soprano for male and female), despite being able to sing lower notes.

    • @gillianomotoso328
      @gillianomotoso328 3 года назад +5

      @XDranzer000 I’d argue that his “normal” voice type is more his “spoken” voice type, as he has developed his head voice so much so that it is equivalent to that of a mezzo-soprano. The baritonality of his voice only remains in his chest voice, which he has not thinned out as much as he has beefed up his falsetto range. This is not uncommon in countertenor voices - this sort of disconnect from lack of mixing the textures through the middle. He could probably learn to sing tenor though just through mixing his chest range into his head range, which can also be accomplished by negotiating a slightly higher larynx height. In fact, even hearing that G3 at 1:07, it’s not as dark and full as a baritone might sound. But it often depends on the beholder.

      Although there are a few exceptions. Those who have taken chemical castrations for some odd reason may have a higher speaking voice. And those who have a condition where they still kept theur pre pubescent voice during puberty somehow due to hormonal changes.

    Hello, Justin. I'm a trained tenor-countertenor singer. But for me, I consider myself as "Male-Alto" singer, because my voice can catch up in alto register, not in mezzo-soprano or even soprano register.

    • @marcopaganelli6059
      @marcopaganelli6059 4 года назад

      @Purple Petals alto or contralto is the term we use to define the lowest female register and it is compared to bass voice in males now don't mess up with the fact that exist many mezzo that are asked to sing alto roles because a alto voice is completely different from a mezzo in regard to tymbre than we can speak about range and that is personal to each singer imagine a mezzo with huge register that can cover all roles in the female range how do you consider that voice? Or an alto that have 3 octaves? They seems to have the same range apparently but the register is made by the tymbre they have despite of the range. That said not all singers have more than two octave range in operatic singing that is considered to be the normality of each register upper and lower range may be natural or trained anyway you understand which voice is by the fact that that voice has a clear tymbre if you listen to ewa podles you can understand what I mean she has been an incredible alto with a huge range but you distinguish her voice clearly from a mezzo because a mezzo hasn't the same deep tymbre

    • @marcopaganelli6059
      @marcopaganelli6059 4 года назад +3

      Dear Erdyanto you know that many countertenors have different ranges that does not make them less pleasant artists simply because they are not extremely high in range one example of that is Xavier xsabata he is a true alto with a wonderful tymbre and a lovely interpret so don't worry if you feel to be "just" alto each of us has a divine gift you may become the most beautiful alto out there simply love yourself and sing with passion

    • @marcopaganelli6059
      @marcopaganelli6059 4 года назад

      @Purple Petals I don't think ewa is a mezzosoprano she is a true contralto with a huge range and sorry you can't compare an operatic artist with a pop singer because they play different styles I was talking about operatic singers not even choir singers in a choir most often the majority of the people that simply are not trained ends to be put among altos for that reason even when their voice is different

    • @yuliana703
      @yuliana703 4 года назад +1

      Purple Petals , not only Fach, but word contralto in Italian means that this voice is something against alto and not alto, as countertenor is not tenor. So it's strange that Marco doesn't know it having such Italian name. But Ewa is contralto. And you really shouldn't compare witn not operatic singers

    Countertenors often sound brighter and lighter than contraltos. Truly a countertenor is akin to a mezzo more than a contralto. Kinda like Tevin Campbell and El DeBarge, lol. A contralto’s chest voice often is more akin to a spinto or dramatic tenor, I’ve found, due to the depth and power.

      Pretty normal since most CTs are using their head voice to sing in the same range that Contralti or rather Mezzos sing. Contralti use their chest voice in that same zone so of course they'll sound bigger.

    • @gillianomotoso328
      @gillianomotoso328 3 года назад +1

      @@tenor-haute-contre Eh. Contraltos generally use full chest up to about no more than the A4-C5 area from what I’ve found. Beyond that the voice starts mixing into head, and quite rapidly up to D5-E5. The stratification of the male chest voice from the sectioned off male head voice often creates a brightened thinness for the upper range that is sometimes matched in contralto voices (similar to male voices), but developed female voices as a whole generally have a head voice that matches in chiaroscuro with the chest voice. In fact, I’d argue that all “developed” voices have this quality but customs cause different standards regarding that for each voice type. Moreover, tenors often have a more evened out transition from chest to head as their mixed range is more developed than other male voices’.

    I have a big point of contention with the word falsetto and head voice. Can you provide an example of each? Most times people say falsetto when it is head voice. Drives me nuts.

    • @gillianomotoso328
      @gillianomotoso328 3 года назад

      Falsetto is breathy, head voice is not. Simple as that. The distinction is made because a breathy phonation lacks compression sufficient to engage much at all of the vocalis muscle. A “full” phonation involves that compression, causing the whole vocalis muscle to phonate (with CT taking dominance over TA in the case of head voice) and thus leading to a sound with a fairly closed quotient (most of the oscillation comes from the folds touching rather than letting air pass through). But it is arguably a spectrum; it’s just that head voice has more of a standard of fullness than falsetto does a standard of hollowness, and neither is chest voice anyway and thus not as typically of a spoken quality.

    • @mradaChris
      @mradaChris 3 года назад +1

      @@gillianomotoso328 That is what I think too. As most people are just ignorant and use the f term because a guy is singing high. I always use a spectrogram tool to analyze a vocal production. Head voice shows more overtones than falsetto. Simple and scientific.

      almost any man with intent and training can sing as counter tenors, by singing exclusively singing in their high registers (in men, this is called the falsetto register). In practice, classical counter Tenor singers are usually natural baritone or bass voices because they produce a reinforced falsetto that gives the impression of a full voice. I would say that male Tenors have this ability inherently, since they are the highest male voices

      Hey classical Tenor who used to be obsessed with range as a Pop singer here. Don't focus on the extremes of your voice if you are untrained. Work with what you're comfy with the most.
      Assuming you're a male, don't force your lows, so anything below C2 (my personal limit). As for your highs, the passagio can be as early as C sharp 4 (when I started singing I already cracked there). Treat your voice with care, be patient, and get a teacher who understands your voice.
      My personal full range would be D2/E2-G5, but I probably don't even use half of that in my classical singing.
