I personally and unfortunately completely understand how you feel about your special shows, I have my own very passionate interests. I remember once I was watching The Thing, which is one of my films, my thing, my jam. My other half came in and made some joke comment about it looking like plasticine and that was it... I was off it. "This was the 80's, this was amazing technology for the time, blah blah blah" I still bring it up to this day 😂
I understand your reluctance to share your special interest. I played my favourite band for someone recently and they said it was weird. If I'm feeling more rational I can understand that everyone has different taste, music is subjective etc. But I wasn't rational, I think I called them fucking weird and it really hurt that they said that. It's hard not to let a bad experience cloud sharing things in the future.
I feel you so hard about the autistic "you don't love this the way I do", it's why I don't do fandoms. I hate how Lilo and Stitch is boiled down to "not like other girls" and "teehee I'm so quirky", when it's autism representation to me and just everything to me.
…..but you gotta be allowed to stim while watching Ashes to Ashes!!… ☠️ now I understand why I can only watch certain things with my partner and no one else - because I can stim around them.
Random question but do you have noise sensitivities? Mine have been getting a lot worse lately (had to leave a cinema showing of Wicked last night an hour in because the crunching sounds around me were so overwhelming, even after putting loops in and moving to an empty row), I don't know how anyone manages them other than completely sealing your ears off
