Wearing evil eye or hanging it up is NOT from the teaching of Quran or Sunnah. This is actually considered "shirk" and can take you out of the fold of Islam. The only thing that would protect us from any evil is Allah azawajal

as a muslim girl being on your period means automatically you cannot fast, which zaina didn’t mention and therefore thought of the most generic reason for not fasting which was being sick.. that along with the evil eye instantly sold it for me. also I think generally people should understand being arab/middle eastern doesn’t automatically make you a muslim - culture and religion are two different things!

A Muslim does not have a specific look to them, they can be Arab, Asian (All regions, African, American, British etc. They have a range of skintones and languages. Many different backgrounds. I suspected Zaina straight away when I saw the necklace.. Islam is clear that we only seek protection in the words of Allah and there is Sunnah to show us how to seek Allah's help. We don't wear items like that for protection.. And when you look at the background of these items, they belong to cultures and civilizations outside of islam. And the Prophet clearly said NOT to imitate the non Muslims. Furthermore, this particular symbol is associated with shirk as its from Egyptian paganism. So yeh, it was extremely obvious Zaina wasn't a Muslim.
