  • While FD say that Odyssey is not yet optimised for VR, you can actually play in that way. Join me as I check out how it is ... it's not great!

    I have a stronger PC than you (i7-8700, RTX 3070) and I had roughly the same experience you did when I tried Odyssey, anyway. On foot was unplayable, and the cockpit gameplay was ruined. I've given up on the game until they properly support VR again (assuming that ever happens). On top of that, people have discovered a workaround to use the spectator camera to play in full VR on foot (but you can't really use weapons or tools). All we asked for was the ability to walk around our flying homes. Other games do this and do it well, and it's not boring like FDev says it would be. It just feels like they're ignoring every single thing the community asks for, and purposely ruining the actually good things already extant.

    Funny thing is the Vanity Cam works on foot in VR. So it probably was more work for them to take the VR out that it would have them to keep it in.
    Is the 2d screen at least stereoscopic?

    Not only the out-of-ship gameplay is on a 2D flatscreen, but they also almost halved the performance in Odyssey compared to Horizons in VR. Its just saddening :(

    Thankfully they did fix the 2d ship projections in this latest patch. Unfortunately the exterior camera is still broke as well as the DSS scanner...

    That sounds like a horrible idea Arvey! I'm already subbed, and I don't want you to delete your commander lol. The grind in ED is almost unbearable! lol

    Its too dark. It may be more realistc but I think its detrimental to the game. As a VR player I find Oddity to be of little interest. In fact, overall it has introduced so many bugs into the game ( Horizons as well) that Im considering binning ED for something more playable after 3000+ hours of enjoyment. Its porked.

    • @ArveyJay
      @ArveyJay  3 года назад +1

      Hopefully just temporarily. I agree however that the bugs are unacceptable and it should never have been released in such a state!

    I play in VR, and I refuse to play that 2D FPS Odyssey POS. Not only did they botch the FPS, but they also messed up the graphics whenever you are in a base. Getting to a star base used to be the real eye candy...but now it looks all funny and glitchy. I am going to stop playing ED for a while, and come back when they fix the FPS. No flat-screen games for me.

    • @ArveyJay
      @ArveyJay  3 года назад

      Yeah I agree. It's not really playable at present! In vr I'll stick to the ship and srv stuff until this is fixed. It's sad that Fdev thought this was good enough to launch with all its glitches and bugs.

    👉🚀🔥Today, June 15th, 2021 @ 11am CST FDev stated, "No further development for VR." They will keep the floating 2D screen until further notice. With a list of other issues, many of which I’m sure you’re aware of, I’m taking a few days break. Hopefully they replace my stolen module and restore the game to a point that doesn’t take 15 minutes to get from desktop to "hopefully launching the ship in 2D at 30 frames a second." Lots of disappointment. I’m looking for an alternative to this heartbreak... over 1,200 game hours in 9 months, only a few dozen hours in VR. $4,000 in PC,VR, Flight Controls, in game cosmetics, etc.

      Yeah I feel you. I'm working out a few ways that we as the community can put some pressure back on fdev to focus back on VR since it's such a huge part for us. Will advise. Also reaching out to other youtubers like obsidian ant to do the same thing.

      @@ArveyJay My suggestion with Elite and VR for FDev would be to ignore the VR controllers all together - this will make it MUCH easier for them to develop. I think they should just assume most VR players have a HOTAS setup of some sort and or mouse and kb users. Basically open it up like NMS in which a mouse and keyboard work fine. VR for the type of combat they put in will never be great but at least all other on foot stuff would work well.

      @@ArveyJay Roger that. I have made similar statements in ObsidianAnt's as well as Elite's own channels. I saw a post about politely encouraging Bethesda to continue VR into Stanfield as they have with Skyrim and Fallout. I went to Bethesda and created a feedback ticket and thanked them for the previous games, explained the disappointment in Elite from the VR community and asked that they please keep doing what they do. More flies with honey as they say. I'll gratefully keep looking and listening for your progress with Fdev. I love Elite. It just don't seem to love me back. o7

    2 weeks later FDev has nerfed the future of VR in Elite and lost a lot of players in the process. I would love to sub but fdevs vision for the game is pretty clear and not something I am interested in but if you start making NMS or SC video's, that might change.

    • @ArveyJay
      @ArveyJay  3 года назад

      Fair enough. Tried some NMS content which didn't get too many views at the time so I didn't continue with it. Yes at the moment I'm working out some ways that we as the community can reach out to FDev to let them know our displeasure

      @@ArveyJay Good luck with that, been waiting forever for them to do something other than cosmetics or grind and well, good thing I wasn't holding my breath. I was able to play it good enough even in VR to try the various mission types a couple of times, it felt very copy/paste ya know where you pretty much know what to expect before you even land... settlements felt that way after like 2 times and subsequent tries just proved me correct and the FPS was boring to me at least also very quickly and when I looked at the engineering requirements... well that amount of rinse, repeat grind is not my idea of fun so Odyssey is a no go for me either way - I'll still fire up Elite Horizons every 6 month's or so in VR as that seems to be about how long it takes to refresh it for me and feel a bit of that awe I had when I first started the game in VR, then I play it like crazy for about 6 to 8 hours over a couple of days and then hang it up again so hopefully when they put the Odyssey graphics in Horizons they at least have that figured out by then.
