My previous Jeep was a hard top which I rarely took off so I decided to try the power top with my new one. It works great for me especially with living in an apartment complex. One button and you can open and close. Love it!!

How loud is the power top while driving on interstate roads? Compared to hard top

  • @adamharriger5193
    @adamharriger5193 5 лет назад +6

Dual tops is the ideal option imo. We live in western NY where winter is long and cold- hard top with headliners is perfect. From Spring through Fall soft top goes on- allows so much more topless use since you dont have to have 100% rain free forecast for the whole day. We bought our JL with only the color matched hard top, and ended buying the soft top later for this reason.

I have the retractable top Rubicon. 15 seconds and you're open air, you don't even have to stop the Jeep. You can still pop out the back windows and doors just the the other two tops. I'm open air every single day. On back roads, open the top. Merge in the interstate, close the top. And you can remove the retractable top, but the dealer has to do it for you.

The only thing I have against that top is that once the warranty runs out if that thing ever breaks it's going to be an EXPENSIVE fix. Other than that I love the concept of it.

Stormin' Moorman I’m with Turtle, the thought of my roof being out of service and missing good Jeep time is enough for me to pass on that top. Plus I want the look in the back and that top doesn’t come off and it looks a little silly with the windows off. Maybe just different since I’m not used to seeing that type of “naked jeep”

I've driven a Jeep TJ in New England for the last decade, sold my hardtop in year three and havent looked back. Soft top is louder but so more accessible. I did have to replace it last year so 9 years of life from the factory and it was like 450 bucks for a replacement. NBD.

I've had both hard top and soft top and soft is the only one I buy now. It sucks having to store the hard top and removing it and putting it back on is a pain if you're alone. Plus, you can't put it on if there's a sudden storm and you're out and about. The only down side to a soft top is it leaks after time, but that's fixed with duct tape on the inside for a few years until I feel like buying a new top.

    • @WW-wf8tu

That's the interesting part about Jeep lovers. They put up with the flaws and call it perfect. lol IF I were to ever fall into this .. insanity I would go with soft top for the exact reason you listed here. Because I have done the hard top canopy thing on trucks and while the shell is great on, it is a pain in the tail taking it off alone. (done it alone, it is do-able but a pain) And storage is a pain. Rag tops are flawed, but easy to cope with and probably really worth the flaws for the convenience.

Great video Stephen! My JLR will soon be naked in Colorado and appreciate the tutorial on getting the door wiring disconnected.
For removing the roof I used a 20% off Harbor Freight coupon for an electric hoist. Mounted it to the ceiling rafters in our garage and presto! A place to keep the roof stored and can remove single handily. I also hang the doors using padded bicycle hooks on the wall. Everything up off the floor and plenty of room to park.

I got a 2 door jk with a soft top and I love it. Every time I go off roading I end up going topless. I bought a bag from right line that allows me to roll up my windows and store them in the long cylinder bag. ( my soft top is kinda beat up a bit so I don't mind rolling it up so it might be a little torturous to roll up a new soft top). The bag sits right on top of the folded soft top. It works out great. I live in California so it's sunny year around. So if you in a state that actually has seasons I wouldn't recommend the soft top. I am also worried about theft but every car is a broken window away from the same situation

OMG thanks so much for showing me EVERYTHING THAT I NEEDED TO KNOW you explained so well what kind of generation of the Jeep someone might have and what ways to definitely tell how. You even went on a test drive when everything was removed which I loved as well. You even went into depth about wether to purchase the hardtop or soft top and when you can switch it out I loved that a lot. Plus you reversed basically everything that you did to get all the parts back on which is pretty simple especially since Jeep gave instructions on how to do so or just by watching other people that have owned Jeep’s before so that’s great. But yea dude i love this video a lot because when I do the same thing to mine I’ll watch your video to do it but for the most part it is pretty straight forward on how to get the job done especially on a beautiful summer day. I actually plan on getting a 2021 Jeep Wrangler unlimited high altitude it’s a 4 by 4 for my bday which passed but it’s still coming lol. FCA learned a lot about these previous 3.0L Diesel engines and their weak points in the previous releases in multiple vehicles across the FCA line-up and I think this NEW engine will give Jeep enthusiasts a nice new option !! This 3.0L Diesel will be the perfect fit for Off Roading !! 442 Lb/Ft is a huge jump up from current engine options ...Nice one FCA !!!

I only remove the front panels from my JL(it feels topless) I think some people love to play with their Jeeps so all this work to remove top & doors is fun for them, like this guy, he is having fun! Others buy those after market electric ones so the back side can easily be lifted up. Sadly, the retractable top is not for 2 doors Wranglers & I'm wondering how much noise those get in the freeway. Well, Jeep Wranglers are big toys for many of us. No doors, No tops, No front panels, No Problem! lol

The Bronco has the Jeep beat on not having that big bar running through the center of the cabin up top. To be honest, while driving with that on when I did a test drive, it felt no different than my open panoramic sunroof on my ford expedition. It only slightly enhances things for the backseat passengers (with the Jeep top off). I feel like the Bronco would be a much more fun space for the family than a Jeep due to that design.

I have a 2018 JL Rubicon hardtop. There’s a problem with the rear window defroster in these wranglers. The little buds that powers the defroster grid ( one on each side ) came off. Jeep repaired it but not very good, the window must have overheated and blew out while I had it open and standing under it and I was showered with broken glass that caused me to get stitches in my hand. I highly recommend getting the soft top, and I’m putting my own soft top on very soon.

I wonder how many buyers REALLY take the removable top into consideration when considering the purchase of a Wrangler. I live in Utah, red rock 4-wheeling paradise, where there are a gazillion Wranglers running around. I rarely see any with the top off, whether on road or off. Perhaps it's akin to the payload and tow ratings of fullsize pickup trucks. It's fun to thump your chest, grunt like Tim Taylor from Home Improvement, and say you can do it ("Mhmmpt, Mhmmpt, I can tow and/or haul the most!!"; or "Mhmmpt, Mhmmpt, look what I can do with my top!!"). But in 99.9% of cases with 99% of people, it doesn't matter because the top stays on. Heck, I don't think I would want to get the inside of a new $45K+ Wrangler all dirty and dusty by taking the top off.
    Just a thought...
