Some days ago, i went to the rolex dealer ,and i saw the new submariner while i tried on the wrist I've feel a solid robust watch but when i see the dial i was very doubts about buy it . The AD told me he still also prefer the old version, so i tried the old one and suddenly a fire blow in my mind, so i bought it, and i saved 8000€ 😂 and 6 months !
I’ve bought 16613 two days ago , new - never worn from the guy who kept it in the safe for investment . Feels like opening the time capsule. Great watch , great heritage. Besides the price was like current ss version. One think I’d like to add to your perfect review that the latest models of 16613 have the rrr engravings inside the bezel and the laser print Rolex crown on the crystal
Nice comparison. I prefer the older sunburst dial but they’re all great. A touch of panache and a big improvement over the standard stainless black model. ❤️ my bluesy
This is my grail watch, it was quite a thing to see four of them together like that. Very informative, I learned a lot so thank you. You sir wear your money well without being a snob. A rare thing these days.
Apologies if Ive missed this in another comment but there’s still one more iteration missing. I have a December 2011 pre ceramic bluesy with SEL, random serial no: and rehaut
Illustrative, important and valuable comparison, even though one iteration is missing: Rehaut one ! Nevertheless, this video is a "Must See" for all Rolex lovers, aficionados and connoiseurs !
Have owned many two toned Subs over the years. Really cool to see the improvements. Currently have a 2016 version and love it. The glidelock clasp is awesome.1998 version is everyday knockabout watch. Nice comparison.
I finally pulled the trigger dumping the old 90s bluesy and pay the piper for a 2019 Ceramics Bluesy. The Jingly Jangly is no more and thanks this Informative Bluesy vid J Anthony. 💪👍
Very detail comparison. You mentioned details I have not seen in any other videos. I own an older model and was able to learn features I was not aware of. Very nice job!
Mine arrives Monday - paid a few dollars extra but I work my ass off and I only live once so why not. This will go well with my light blue Canali suit. Can’t wait 😮
Good to see you back! I feel you hit the main points on why the new ceramic iteration, is the best. Coincidently, two weeks ago I traded my Bluesy 16613 bought new in 1997 still with its box and papers plus $4500 for a new ceramic 116613 Bluesy. Even though I have been buying of late 4 digit and 5 digit reference steel sports, and mine was a nice example with full tritium, I feel the new ceramic is so much better( as you discussed). Further, I feel the vintage appeal is much more of a factor in all steel then the two tone. So far no regrets.
Great video, thanks. I love mine, aside that is a beautiful watch, the new glidelock clasp mechanism its the best in the market. It is very useful for divers and non divers to adjust to the perfect size in very easy way. This should be introduced in other rolexes, if not all.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there another model? My understanding is that there are two variants of the 116613 - one with a lighter blue dial, one with a dial more akin to the 16613. Good video by the way! I bought a 16613 a few months ago, thinking that the smaller lugs would look better on my smaller wrist; however, I recently met someone with a 116613, and it didn’t wear much bigger to be honest!
austin longenecker I own a 16613. Trust me the clasp is plated. The gold does not show through on the wrist side. Take a look if you come across a 16613.
Tom C It’s not gold plated. Maybe gold filled then? I know it doesn’t show on the other side of the clasp, but it doesn’t mean it’s plated either. Gold plating rubs off after wear and tear
austin longenecker ah ok. So it’s more of a fusion. I was using the term plating as it was the first word came to mind. So my question is back to are 116613 clasp the same? Or are the gold through the wrist side of the clasp?
Great video!! I looking to buying a 16613 from a friend of mine!! I’m confused now, it says swiss made in the bottom of the dial not the 25-thing, nothing else and the clasp is steel!! So none of the versions you showed fits in!!?
The other tell that I see is the thicker lugs on the new versus the old. It’s a heftier case. Did you end up taking the new ceramic bezel one home with you?
It would be nice if you watch guys would stop calling the old clasp cheap. Mine have always been just fine and it was a better time when you could walk into any AD and they had every model and variation readily available, usually in the case. Prices were much better as well. Now if you want anything other than a generic DJ36 you might get it by the time you retire. Just my 2 cents.
Forgot to mention the solid end link in the second and third watch in this video. Minor (but great) improvement to the band that makes it more sturdy. Bought my y2000 16613 because of that change to the bracelet and love for the look. You can see the SEL in the video, good thing to consider for those looking to buy.
interesting details that the average joe wouldn't pick up on buying these. Good info to know about, comparing the gens in watches is always and interesting topic. Great vid man, Thanks for the good content!
I own the 116613LB , you also forgot to mention that they laser etched the Rolex crown at the bottom of the 6 , internally , The newer ones Have The Rolex Crown at the 12 with the words Rolex Rolex Rolex Then The Serial Numbers Engraved in the rehaurt Regards
Great Submariner bi-metal historical refinements review! As of year 2013 the blue lacquer dial is changed to blue sunburst dial.. Blue lacquer dial can only be acquired by "Smurf" white gold Submariner..
I have not yet made up my mind about Rolex. But I do believe the resistance to issue limited editions(1 of XXXX) and the consistency of their model line up is a definite plus. Also, increasing their warranty to five years says much about their commitment to quality and customer service.
It’s amazing that they used to have hollow center links. Theseare so expensive, I a $300 microbrand Diver wouldn’t get away with that. Those old clasps look like what a Seiko 5 has.
I have A Submariner Date 16610 from early 90s.In Mint Condition.I think it’s about 3x the Original Price.I wanted the “James Bond” Watch Since I was about 10.I got it on my 15th B-Day In 1996.I’m kinda surprised it’s not worth more than around 7k Now.But I’d NEVER Get rid of it Anyway.
May I ask, if there is any other watch brand that has the same history of rather slow and steady quality improvement over a longer period of time, but presenting their wathes to much more affordable prices? By the way; God bless you, J. Anthony!
Like most watch guys I had one hell of a collection Bluesy, ss black face Daytona and the Anniversary green sub. The cool part is I got them all at regular price from Ben Bridge. I had to sell my collection when I got a gold digger pregnant. Let that be a lesson to you young guys.
The clasp on the newer bracelets seems lazy to me… its not a continual “link” look and its just this solid stripe of gold… to each their own, but looks bleh in my opinion. If you hold the two last ones together side by side, yeah one feels more substantial … its a 41MM, it has solid links, and the clasp bar is thicker. Just to name a couple things off the top.
you do very nice videos. with all respect, you may want to consider wearing microfiber gloves, not just to protect the watches, but your cuts on your fingers are a bit distracting and detract from the beauty of the watches. I say this as someone who for years had fingers that had the same appearance. please do not take offense to these comments. thanks for listening.
I don’t like the color of the ceramic blue it looks more like a cartoon yeah it’s better durability but the other one this looks more classy and I would say like less plastic surgery in age is better
I own a new sub bluesy . And a Rolex sub 16613 bluesy from 1991. I like my old mutch more.
I love the gold date wheel on the older models!
The old blue is much more interesting, especially the sunburst blue dial that patinas into a beautiful purple tone...
I own a 16613 and love it.
Big improvement in the new one, however i prefear the old model.
Thanks for the video.
Emanuele Studer 🥂 I also own a Rolex 16613 bluesy . I also prefear the old model👍
@@Fredrikwatchesandartwork Can someone please explain to me how to do the quick adjustment on the 16613?

Illustrative, important and valuable comparison, even though one iteration is missing: Rehaut one ! Nevertheless, this video is a "Must See" for all Rolex lovers, aficionados and connoiseurs !
Good video, but how do you not mention the glidelock on the newer bracelets compared to the older one?

Love the new clasp, love the ceramic bezel, *detest* the lugs. Cool vid!
Just the best there is. This line of dive watches has no peer and just keeps getting better and better. A true grail.
Great job showing refinements over the years!
I got the black 16613 1995 circa. 😎
I finally pulled the trigger dumping the old 90s bluesy and pay the piper for a 2019 Ceramics Bluesy. The Jingly Jangly is no more and thanks this Informative Bluesy vid J Anthony. 💪👍
Fun to see those compared...Most of us don't get to do that. Very valuable! Thanks

Did the same thing about two years for the newer ceramic version, feels far superior in quality and looks.
Last year, I rewarded myself for 40 years of work with one of these.

Great video. Quick question does the 116613 have gold through the clasp? The old 16613 is essentially just plating.
Rolex doesn’t gold plate anything. It’s all solid. The new ceramic models have gold through the clasp
austin longenecker I own a 16613. Trust me the clasp is plated. The gold does not show through on the wrist side. Take a look if you come across a 16613.

Great video. In which year did they introduce the gold onto buckle ?
Yes on one of those " bluesy subs" 11613 ..is a "FLAT FOUR" on the bezel if it makes any difference to value.
In which year did they remove the lug holes please ?

Good video. Heading to become a classic video reference for Rolex Fans.
Thank you
When u put them side by side they seem VERY DIFFERENT .. like, totally not the same watch at all
Gorgeous watches and a great comparison! 👏👏
Thumbs up for sure, great chanel
Nice video. Slow improvement over time. The Rolex way
Does the newest model have the glidelock function on the bracelet?
Yes, I should have mentioned that
J. ANTHONY Oh awesome. Nice review!
The other tell that I see is the thicker lugs on the new versus the old. It’s a heftier case. Did you end up taking the new ceramic bezel one home with you?
You forgot to mention the Solid End Links (SEL) on the newer ones. There are also a few links that are not hollow.
All 4 watches are discontinued, the ceramic flat blu dial has been replaced with the older sunburst dial.

Great vid as usual. Highly doubt anyone else has had these 4 beauts all lined up, so thanks! Ceramic all the way 👍🏻

Thank you for the video, very much good info that makes a big difference when I choose my next Sub.
It’s amazing that they used to have hollow center links. Theseare so expensive, I a $300 microbrand Diver wouldn’t get away with that. Those old clasps look like what a Seiko 5 has.
Yeah...I know it was crazy
Pretty sure even most Seiko 5's have better bracelets haha. Pretty crazy to think that was all that they had back then.
The brand new Bluesy 126613LB no longer has the supercase from its predecessor 116613LB. Such a beauty.
Good info.!
Great video J.!

And the maxi case with broader lugs and crown guards!

My favourite watch colour choice - absolute watch porn - great video showing the differences.
Two tone Rolex are timeless.....
Movement update?
Sorry, I can’t show that on camera but yes, the movement has been tweaked to be more anti magnetic among other little things
I hate the maxi dial and maxi case. Bracelet has been upgraded no doubt.
