I'm only a novice lockpicker with 15 years of practice under my belt (and still learning!) but it's so true (and sadly overlooked) that you need to select the most appropriate picking tools in advance (in the same methodical way a surgeon will set out her medical instruments before any operation.). The steady hand, the knack of feeling subtle feedback from those pins, the calmness of just you, the vice and the padlock, goes completely out the window when you're under pressure, fearing being caught, in the field. It's the thing you least expect that can thwart your intentions. I once opened a simple filing cabinet in seconds, retrieved the desired contents, then found I couldn't lock it up again. It took a nerve-wracking 12 minutes before I managed to secure the cabinet and leave! Planning & setting out the right tools in advance - priceless advice!

      Absolutely.
As much as locksport likes to rag on even the master#3, I definitely know even it is not a joke.
Put most pickers under stress and against a real world lock which is in an uncomfortable position and a bit grimy and they will have a hell of a time getting an open.

Tow tools for by pass, the American bypass driver from Sparrows (If they haven't sent you the Abus one check your tool before you start your mission). The other would be the Wafer buster I think from Petersen. The pick would be a deep hook so you can pick from the bottom of the keyway and a Heavy prybar for the top of the keyway tension tool. Picking in the wild is so different then picking at home on the lounge. Cheers

If we're going to attempt to bypass the lock as others mentioned, then we'd have to make sure we have the American Lock Bypass Tool with us at that moment, as well as the punching tool needed to punch a hole through the bypass restriction plate that some 1100's have installed to prevent anyone from bypassing.
If we're going straight to picking, I'd got with a Peterson Gem in 0.018" with a 0.050" TOK tensioner. Always remember to click and move to the next pin, as 1100's have serrated pins, as well as use light tension.
I doubt I'd be able to pick an 1100 in the wild as it takes me about 10-12 minutes to pick one in the comfort of my own home without any pressure on me. It would be a nightmare with worrying about security, the angle the lock is hanging on, the serrated pins, etc.

@Harim Abif The wafer buster is the punching tool I was talking about, so if the Petersons Bypass Tool comes with it, then you'll be all set to bypass 1100's.

you should look at his 1100 videos again. his very first video is picking 10 of them in 11 minutes. then video 354 is 16 1100 locks in 7 minutes.

Bypass using Sparrows driver - no tensioner required

    The 1100 can be bypassed

Yes, some 1100's can be bypassed, as long as they don't have the bypass shield installed. If they do, you would have to find a way to poke a wide-enough hole into that thin piece of metal in order to allow the bypass tool to get to the actuator.
