I have the very same press and need to take it apart for cleaning and lubing.was too unsure to do it until i found this video.Amazing work in explaining in detail, thank you sir!
OK..... this man is from the generation that actually knew how to do things. I recently had the pleasure of watching a millennial change a tire.... Mel Brooks couldn’t make a better comedy😂
What does being a millenial have to do with it? Some millennials still know how to get shit done the hard way like you. Ain't got nothing to do with the time they get popped out at. It's all on the parents to teach their kids the old ways so they have something to rely on in case all the fancy shit goes to hell.
You should have helped him. I’m a millennial myself and after joining the military, trucking for a while and doing other jobs I was finally allowed to help my father on his farm. But if I see anyone struggle (boomers, millennials or so), I stop and help them. You would be amazed how many boomers struggle to tie down and secure a load on their pickup, being dangerous to themselves and others.
A 1/4" extension with a ratchet is the easiest way to remove the top of the ram. The 1/4" extension fits snugly into the slot in the shell holder part of the ram. I use an extension that is about 12" and come in from where the dies screw in
Thanks for the suggestion. I have created a follow up video that is ‘attached’ to the original video as an end screen that incorporates the various suggestions I have received.
This is outstanding, you have a gift for clarity and detail that is much appreciated. I came upon your video because I just needed to turn my primer slot in the top of the Ram to the right to work with a case ejector system, which in my case would mean unscrewing it, but thought it might be preferable to not loosen it and turn the entire ram 180 degrees. You mention here that you had to do the same, but in fairness I think you could just have turned the top shell holder assembly 180 as well, correct? Anyway, thank you for the excellent presentation. 👍
I've been looking for a video like this for very long and found this. great video and very helpful sir. I need to make a modification to mine because the ram is very loose and Lee's warranty in SA is pathetic.
It’s not that that Lee‘s warranty is bad here in South Africa, there is no warranty in South Africa as it’s us company and lees policy is that if you ship any broken parts to them they will replace it. In my opinion the importer should do a better job. But that is a problem with ALL foreign products. I actually just greased my classic cast with a full disassembly totay but now I think I will add a grease nipple.
@@RealMrSmit yes, I can ship back to Lee, but the shipping costs are soo high, it's not worth it. I've been in contact with them and they will replace the ram, but it's cheaper to buy a new one
You can use a large Allen wrench directly through the top of the RAM where the Shell holder goes into loosen the top peace of the RAM off of the RAM body instead of putting it in where the primer arm goes in. Just a little something to help you out.

Very good video of maintaining the Lee Classic Cast press. I am in the market for a single stage reloading press for rifle cartridge reloading. After using your Lee Classic Cast press, is it still reloading high-quality ammo? And, would you still recommend it?
R G, my main reloading press is a Dillon. I use the Lee Classic Cast press for the specific task of priming cartridges, i.e. it is dedicated for one purpose. But having said that, the competitive long distance bench rest rifle shooters I know use a single stage press. Some use the Lee. Some use the RCBS Rock Chucker. I have no experience with one and I do not know anybody who has one, but I have read good things about the Forster Co-ax.
I've been reloading 223 on the Lee Classic Cast and Lee rifle dies. I haven't done any of the concentricity measuring some have done, but I have been measuring overall length. I am regularly within 0.001 of an inch on overall length.
You are welcome. I am in the very long process of adding closed captioning to all my videos, if reading English is easier than listening to me. So any of my videos with a CC in the thumbnail will have (American English) closed captions/subtitles.

@@pietervandenberg5818 that’s the problem, hence the importer should do a better job!
May I ask you how you broke it and after how many rounds?
@@pietervandenberg5818 the other option is to send it with someone that is going to work in the states, that would save some shipping cost aswell.
@@RealMrSmit I didn't break it, the ram is just very loose, after about a 1000 rounds
Excellent video and very helpfull, thank you Sir !
