You can TRY again, if you wish, but I'd count to 10, or just keep flipping the switch up and down over and over again, until you're at like 20...then if it still doesn't work, just jump into Forward Programming and setup the switch there. Should work without too much trouble there, but the switch method seems to be hit and miss these days. I too JUST had this happen the other day!
@@BrianPhillipsRC When I try to use FORWARD PROGRAMMING I get the message "Connection failed". I have an NX8 radio bought new last month, a SMART spectrum battery, a V1200 with SMART receiver and SMART esc - never got this message with other planes. Any ideas ?
Very cool and fast plane. I just started flying last spring and have not been out to the field much because of distancing. I will need at least a year on the sticks of something a little more tame before I attempt something like this. I bought a Maule after seeing your videos on that plane. Haven't had it in the air yet. Still trying to get experience with my Sport Cub S and my UMX Timber. Merry Christmas from Montana.
Very cool! The Maule is very good. I hope you enjoy it when you DO get it out to fly. This V1200 is one of those planes that you will see fly, and MUST have one! You want to fly it, but don't want to fly your buddies, and accidentally crash it!!!
It is useful or suggested to use SAFE for take offs and landings (as suggested by the manual)? Every time I try to take off this thing it tends to flip to the left… sometimes ending in a crash
It has tremendous TORQUE ROLL. SAFE might help some, but it's also going to limit your ability to correct the roll of the aircraft (AS3X and SAFE will not be limited, FYI, but YOU will be limited) I think you might need to just get the speed with witch you increase throttle down...it's a hard balance, but once you lift the tail wheel, then you can control the plane way better, and slowly increase throttle from there. I want to tell you it's easy, but this is not super easy.
Sweet bird. I could see this one being a bit of a challenge on landing with all that speed. All i can recommend is to get out that nice new tractor and start the runway expansion project. 👊😁. Oh - before I forget - Camera Crew did an excellent job keeping up with you. 👍👍wayyyy up!
Gotta say torque roll is still a big issue , using safe to take off helps and keep it on the ground building up the speed really helps. Take off too early and it wants to roll left and down . Hard runway much easier as you can get more speed before if takes off and add same right aileron, grass is pretty exciting just be ready and commit even when it starts to roll or it's game over.
Tks for the video. I own one and has been impossible to take off without crashing it. The plane tends to roll to the left and crash. I rebuild it again and my plan is to fly it on 4S. Any suggestion advise on how to take off it without having these issues? Tks!
Roll into throttle slow, but once you're in the air - get after it with ailerons and rudder...or just kinda get moving and let AS3X work. It'll work better when you're MOVING.

I've got both v900 and now v1200. Having the v900 first deffo gets you ready for this beast! Landing like the 900 need to start way far back and low, fast decent towards landing zone just speeds it up too much and ground effect keeps her up forever! I throttle off and cricle to bleed speed and keep decending to maybe 20-30ft and start approach from real far back , can just add tiny amounts ot throttle if your short on landing
It's an awesome plane, I had one at home in a box but I sent it back, after debating I decided just to stick with my v900's. The 1200 just seems to expensive for me sense I don't really use the smart tech. I would love the flaps and the retracts but 120mph from a $199 v900 is good enough for now. If it was a $280ish plane I'd be all over it.. great video as always! your first video helped me realize this one is just not for me. This plane will SCREAM past the 150mph mark :) But that's not for everyone!!! Flaps and Retracts make a much wider flight envelope, but I can agree that some of the SMART stuff isn't totally my thing either. I LOVE the SMART packs, but I don't necessarily get sucked in by telemetry.
Brian, we need to get something properly fast in your hands. Ive heard tell there are people who would like to see you fly a Yuri XPlus or a Robbe Amplitude. Either one is much faster than your V1200 and will land shorter with crow braking.
@@BrianPhillipsRC There's a video Horizon Hobby made with the Draco showing that feature. As soon as they land he hits the reverse switch. I posted a question regarding possible damage to the motor, but they said it was fine. The video didn't show any tipping tendency, so it's something I'll be trying on at least one of my models (Havoc or Avanti).
Could you tell me your flap defection on take off and landing? And with take off you had 25 percent elevator and 50 percent Elevator. The manual is a little confusing on the flaps on this plane
I show the full radio setup in the FIRST (Unbox, Build, Radio Setup, and Maiden Flights Video) You can find it in the playlist, if you can't find it easy...or just word search my channel and it'll come up for you... ...as for the ELEVATOR to FLAP Correction - that part is in THIS "Second Thoughts" video.
I’ve flew the v1200 twice before crashing at takeoff, throttled it too rapidly causing it to flip over and then hit the ground. probably due to its engine torque (quite significant) and maybe others factors… flaps elevator mix is also quite significant. Flight characteristics are ok, not great, and the landing gears are not strong enough for hard landings.
Sorry to hear about the crash, but you're not the only one!!! The gear are only good for super greasy landings, unfortunately. If and when you get the V900 - you'll see why I now prefer it ;)
U had it when u first landed because the grass was gonna slow the plane down, but when u rose up again that’s what made u over shoot the landin but I love your videos big dog keep em comin 👍
The V900 is a better plane. I don't want to burst your bubble, or talk you out of your desire to purchase this one, but I can tell you...the V900 is lighter, just as "fast" (scale speed seems just as crazy) and it's just easier to get flying. The V1200 is NOT a bad plane, but it is super purpose build, and the retracts are LIGHT DUTY, necessarily, since this V1200 is already a flying brick. High wing loading, and insane power makes her a joy for fast flight, and carrying inertia down hill, but the fragile retracts that you so desire, on your V900, would be the worst part of this otherwise pretty amazing plane. Again, not trying to take the wind out of your sails, but count yourself blessed with the V900...it's a better fit, in my opinion, for this type of flying machine. bprc.me/V900 bprc.me/V1200 P.S. I leave these links for you AND others who might read our interactions, and want to follow to buy, based on our remarks, if it weren't already clear. Just didn't want to confuse the heck out of you ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC i had lots of fun with my V900 into one day i decided to make another pass at landing hit the throttle and she pulled hard left onto the ground. Hard time launching after that until Horizon sent me new receiver. I just couldn't get it into the air without As3x.
Do you recommend the NX6 over the NX8? Does the NX6 have the "7th" extra channel if needed for say Safe, flaps, the works. The V1200 is a little too speedy for me. I think the Habu will be the EDF for me this spring. Glad the snow melted there. We received 30" last week in upstate NY. Happy Holidays!
Do you know the diameter of the wheel and axle? I’m thinking about using the V1200 retracts for a project with the dubro brakes, which need dubro wheels between 2.25 and 3.5 inches, and the strut needs to be 5/32” or 4mm
I have made several flights with a timber, cessna 150 and lastly an e-flite t-28. Do you think it's early for me to fly this plane? are landings difficult? Best channel!!!!!
I would encourage you to consider the V700. I like it BETTER, and still very exciting. V900 bit.ly/3rVG0QZ V1200 bit.ly/3lmn8bg ...but YES, with your planes, you would be stretched, but you could do it. Make sure you have a huge runway, and good approach, and you'll be fine ;)
Brian would you mind posting the flap mix or anything different than you recommend other than the manual. Thanks so much happy holidays from New Jersey
Have you had a chance to fly this again??? I'm really thinking this may be my next investment mid summer. My only concern is our club is a grass strip. It gets mowed like really short, green short, not fairway. Think the gear will hold up to "normal" landings with regular maintenance? Could the struts be replaced with spring (shock) struts?
They are okay if you have a very well manicured grass strip. Our grass has lots of rocks in it, as the builder lined up the construction driveway slightly different than the final driveway, so it's pretty rough, and I need to figure out a way to get all the rocks out and just have super nice grass out there before a plane like this will like it. Obviously the runway is good, but this plane just carries and carries, even WITH full landing flaps. I think you might be able to have better landings than me with grass, since it'll slow down better for you...but the retracts are mounted in a THIN wing...so use care.
Brian and crew- what a great video. Love the plane and how you show and tell in all your reviews! Thanks again and Happy Holidays to you and your family. Best wishes George :)
what's up man. i flew the crap out of my V1200 and i smoke a turbine jet with it. if you put a high pitch prop with 120amp esc speed controller. then your V1200 will go about 201mph
I see that hill for soaring you talked about , but I also see those trees ... I bet it would work without those trees , I've seen some vids where they soar on a very small "bumps" ... And that plane is gorgeous !
Hello Brian, I am a big fan of your channel. I recently ordered the V1200, any advice? I currently fly using SAFE to land the eflite spitfire 1.2m, timber X, Dynam P-61, FMS P40 1400mm and the AeroScout 1.1m.
Try Jeti, SMC batties, and your flying will be even that much more better and awesome. SMC battery will blow away that "not-so-smart" thing! They cost less and fly longer... ask me how I know!
Tough call.. They're both good, but this one has pretty weak landing gear, but it's FASTER too. Depends on what you're after. Honestly the V900 is more fun that this plane, if you want my personal opinion. bprc.me/V900 bprc.me/V1200 VS bprc.me/FMS_P51
Great but still WAY too scary for me. Low pass with flaps and no throttle - aaaauuugh! Perhaps do it inverted on third-thoughts follow-up. Loved the landing.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks, just found out. Having shoulder surgery in two weeks so it’s tough to deal with knowing I’m going to be getting cut up more than I expected. Pretty down about it. Love your videos, merry Christmas for you and the camera girl.
That plane is badass and super fast it is probably my favorite that I have watched so far and Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and your family
It probably is if you fly from a paved runway or a well kept field if not I don't think it would be can see having problems with the undercarriage in time
I suspect, Andy m, if you fly from grass, the grass is gonna have to be very well manicured, or you'll have issues with retracts bending or breaking over time. My yard is not super smooth, but the driveway is ;)
I all ready crashed two of them. Probably my fault. O well. The crazy thing about it is that i have been racing pylon Q 500 for years. There is just something about the V1200 that I can`t seem to understand. On the last crash. My fellow pilot told me that I was going to slow in the turn and she just fell out of the sky.
These gear are NOT the strongest, but they DO work. If you're landing on grass, you'll have issues. I guarantee you'll experience some sort of gear failure, mount cracking, or losing the ability to close (out of alignment) or some other issue, if you're not on a "hard" surface. A super smooth grass strip, and you might be okay, but my "grass strip" is a pretty rough patch in the front yard ;)
Looks like fun, but hope to not see this one at my local field, specially flown by a non experienced pilot. If someone looses orientation that could will come down outside the flying area like a heavy giant dart. I am surprised to not see enough warnings about this.
Yeah, but I've seen way scarier aircraft at the fields...namely 12S heli's - I need a hardhat, face shield, and most importantly, a nut cup just to THINK about them ;)
Question what would you choose if you had a choice. The eflite a10 or the f18. Thanks for your response. And no don’t think we aren’t related even tho I have my pilots license and love flying rc planes and jets lol .
Erin - A10....why? I think it's a more "flyable" plane. Power to weight is better (A LOT better), and the A-10 stores easier. Two minor details. Also the A-10 is a lot less money. As for awesomeness, the Blue Angles F-18 is pretty freaking awesome too!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC haha I see, I’m still learning, before I’d watch your footage and it was a total different language but as I watch more footage and actually get hands on experience while flying I’m understanding the language a lot more. Keep up the great job “ guys “ very inspirational 💯

@@BrianPhillipsRC Sorry referring to, on worrying about snagging powerlines, or clipping a tree, or possibly having a brown out and falling into a passing car. I guess it comes down to safety.
I'm not even aware of what you're talking about, Jon. Megan, my wife, and I have to work in fractions of seconds, and we're both laser focused on our job...it's hard to explain, but she and I get it, since we're both in the heat of the moment while filming flight...especially with a FAST, and squirrelly plane. I had another viewer commenting on THIS video today for some strange reason (not a new video) and he made a similar comment. If you don't have context for the challenge of doing what we're doing, I mean you ACTUALLY have done what we're doing, you won't get it. We understand each other, and we love each other, even when we make mistakes.
Where is the snow and Christmass tree? I watched the plow video because I have no life. Oh. The wifey is buying the simulator next week on your affiliate link. Too many crashes for the P51 just yet. Lol
To be honest, you would have to do more than just tighten screws on this particular plane. The landing gear is very poorly designed to handle this plane. Horizon has totally missed the mark on this regarding the landing gear design! Very poor quality.
I kinda agree that the retracts are sturdy enough only to handle perfect landings. Other than that, I wouldn't say it's a design flaw...this "design flaw" could be easier dismissed as a marketing issue... reports of "Easy to fly" / "Easy to land" ??? I know it was not the easiest plane, but it sure is sweet! I kinda think the V900 is just a slightly better fit for me ;) Still INSANE speed, and very fun to show off for a few laps, but then landing is a non-issue if you have the real estate.
@@BrianPhillipsRC not just talking about landing the plane, I'm talking about taking off into the air as well! I guess you have to be perfect on that too? Lol It is a design flaw.. at least to me. The plane is "sweet" but check out the forums regarding the landing gear issue. Everyone except you would agree with me. What they're playing does fly great.
I've flown thousands and thousands of flights and had only a couple issues, but I can't say any of them came as a result of a spektrum Rx...I've had servos die, and lipo issues, and all sorts of other issues, but Rx'es haven't been mine.
Lol maybe crabbing then? Dirty up the air flow by cross controlling the plane. She’ll drop like a rock and slow down. Release sticks and float down nicely. You’ve got to turn that safe crap off though.

I know what that sound is at 3:35 it’s the wind from the prop Bc it moves soo much air so fast....
COOL!
What was the final mix for the flap elevator?
Mine should get here in the morning and I think you said 25% and 50%.
If and when you get the V900 - you'll see why I now prefer it ;)
i know its an old video but do you happen to remember the size of this battery? 5000mah?
U had it when u first landed because the grass was gonna slow the plane down, but when u rose up again that’s what made u over shoot the landin but I love your videos big dog keep em comin 👍
Yeah, true
Wish i could afford that plane but the V900 is pretty fast, just wish it had retracts it too, comes in hot!

Sounds awesome
agreed!
NX8 would be a better LONG term choice, but the NX6 is great right now...most models will work fine with it.
Do you know the diameter of the wheel and axle? I’m thinking about using the V1200 retracts for a project with the dubro brakes, which need dubro wheels between 2.25 and 3.5 inches, and the strut needs to be 5/32” or 4mm
Shaft seems to be about 4mm
Wheel Diameter at Rim 22mm
Wide of Foam Tires 17mm
Diameter of Tire 60mm
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you!
Sounds like a F1 car! Merry Christmas Brian and camera crew
It does sound so cool! Merry Christmas to you too!
I have made several flights with a timber, cessna 150 and lastly an e-flite t-28.
Do you think it's early for me to fly this plane? are landings difficult?
Best channel!!!!!
I would encourage you to consider the V700. I like it BETTER, and still very exciting.
V900 bit.ly/3rVG0QZ
V1200 bit.ly/3lmn8bg
...but YES, with your planes, you would be stretched, but you could do it. Make sure you have a huge runway, and good approach, and you'll be fine ;)
Brian would you mind posting the flap mix or anything different than you recommend other than the manual. Thanks so much happy holidays from New Jersey
I thought I did in the video - Watch at 0:26
Have you had a chance to fly this again???
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you!
Looks like you’re living the dream.
We are, but even this dream is a lot of work!!
Brian and crew- what a great video. Love the plane and how you show and tell in all your reviews! Thanks again and Happy Holidays to you and your family. Best wishes George :)
Our pleasure! Thanks!!!
Top of the mornin
Top of the mornin to you smokey!
what's up man. i flew the crap out of my V1200 and i smoke a turbine jet with it. if you put a high pitch prop with 120amp esc speed controller. then your V1200 will go about 201mph
That's IN-SANE!!! ...and very, VERY cool!!!
Hey Speed Fresh, I've seen in person what your V1200 can do to the competition.
@@bcflyer99 oh it can do a lot of thing. I just clocked my V1200 up at 181mph on a dive
I see that hill for soaring you talked about , but I also see those trees ... I bet it would work without those trees , I've seen some vids where they soar on a very small "bumps" ... And that plane is gorgeous !
I have a video coming in the next few days....keep an eye out. I agree with your assessment.
Sorry Brian Ik I been laggin on the comments, I’m still here tho!! #1 fan
Lagging? I don't know about that!!!
Would it be possible to install this motor and esc into the 1.2m eflite p51? Probably not structurally smart 😂 but why not if you could?
YES, but it would be HUUUUUUGE ;)
Your camera crew should put some camera on plane will be very nice 😊😊😊 nice filming! Good pilot too!!! Merry Christmas 🌲☃️🌲☃️
We can't use aerial footage without a Part 107 license. Sorry
Hello Brian, I am a big fan of your channel. I recently ordered the V1200, any advice? I currently fly using SAFE to land the eflite spitfire 1.2m, timber X, Dynam P-61, FMS P40 1400mm and the AeroScout 1.1m.
Get ready for a change of shorts.... This thing is CRAZY! ;)
Mr Brian crazy fast enjoy watching you fly I'll never be able to fly crazy fast . Merry Christmas to you and your family. From Ohio
Never say Never ;) You can do it!!!
Try Jeti, SMC batties, and your flying will be even that much more better and awesome. SMC battery will blow away that "not-so-smart" thing! They cost less and fly longer... ask me how I know!
I've heard good things about SMC
He Brian, *Merry X-Mas🎅 🎄🎅 🎄🎅Merry X-Mas*
Same to you! Thanks for the comment RCHeliJet ;)
This or the newer FMS 1100mm Reno racers?
Tough call.. They're both good, but this one has pretty weak landing gear, but it's FASTER too. Depends on what you're after.
Honestly the V900 is more fun that this plane, if you want my personal opinion.

@@BrianPhillipsRC cheers Brian appreciate the advice as always. I don’t have tarmac near me, so grass ops only. So think the Reno better if sturdier ?
Great but still WAY too scary for me. Low pass with flaps and no throttle - aaaauuugh! Perhaps do it inverted on third-thoughts follow-up. Loved the landing.
She is a daydream to fly - But there's definitely serious pucker factor involved here ;)
I’m having carpal tunnel surgery In both hands. I hope I’m able to fly again.
WHAT?!?!? I hope you get a full recover! You should start working on your toes ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks, just found out. Having shoulder surgery in two weeks so it’s tough to deal with knowing I’m going to be getting cut up more than I expected. Pretty down about it. Love your videos, merry Christmas for you and the camera girl.
Insane
It is very ;)
That plane is badass and super fast it is probably my favorite that I have watched so far and Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and your family
Thanks, you too Daniel!
Is it worth the price?
It probably is if you fly from a paved runway or a well kept field if not I don't think it would be can see having problems with the undercarriage in time
Link is in the description. You can check there ;)
I suspect, Andy m, if you fly from grass, the grass is gonna have to be very well manicured, or you'll have issues with retracts bending or breaking over time.
She is heavy, and needs to be flying pretty quick not to just fall out of the lift from the wings.
Now is all other planes slow 👍😁
LOL!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Merry Christmas 😁
Really fast plane it's I think I would just belly land it most of the time on grass is that landed on its weak landing gear
Yeah, but I've seen way scarier aircraft at the fields...namely 12S heli's - I need a hardhat, face shield, and most importantly, a nut cup just to THINK about them ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC nut cup? LOL !!!
I’m gonna supped up my V1200 soon. And gets how fast ima get my V1200 is gonna go. 200Mph. Ima get it all tricked out
I've heard a few having it over 200mph, which is CRAZY!
Wow, I’m sold 🛬 💯 must have 🥺
It's a HANDFULL ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC haha I see, I’m still learning, before I’d watch your footage and it was a total different language but as I watch more footage and actually get hands on experience while flying I’m understanding the language a lot more. Keep up the great job “ guys “ very inspirational 💯
Nice flight Brian, but just curious do you belong to a club, so you can properly enjoy the flying, and being around other people that enjoy the hobby, or do you strictly on do builds and flight reviews? Again nice job, and Merry Christmas to you and the family!
Not sure what you mean "Properly Enjoy". Please elaborate. I didn't know there was a RIGHT WAY to enjoy this hobby? Can you please fill me in, since I obviously don't get it.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Sorry referring to, on worrying about snagging powerlines, or clipping a tree, or possibly having a brown out and falling into a passing car. I guess it comes down to safety.
Lol, to much fun
This one is crazy!
I want to get one and make it fpv
Holy crap! That's SCARY!!!
I got my Futaba 32MZ $3,000.00 I flew my V1200 with my 32MZ
Okay
Holy crappers - $3000!!!
Brian Brian... The next couple flights stay out of the Powa and just shoot landings. she's a screamer for sure.
I get too excited and keep flying, when I should be landing over and over again ;)
Motor reversing would like to know your location
?
@@BrianPhillipsRC he’s referring to reverse thrust for landing.
New invention hay baling RC plane 😁 Loved the little skip off the hill to retrieve the hay baler 😁😂🤣 Awesome plane Brian Camera Crew 🔥👍✌️
Thanks 👍 - It was pretty awesome here too :) LOL
Go easy on your cameraman. That's not back...
Lol
LOL!!! There's never enough crashes ;) I think "opportunity to fix an RC airplane" is a more palatable way of putting it on this channel ;)
Too pricey for what it is IMO... especially with the well documented sketchy landing gear.
I don't disagree about the landing gear. When I got a load of the gear in the Futura, I thought, why not those in here ;)
You need to wear a helmet and a cup when flying this plane!
Lol
It is a design flaw.. at least to me.
The plane is "sweet" but check out the forums regarding the landing gear issue. Everyone except you would agree with me. What they're playing does fly great.
Personally o don’t trust spektrum receivers crash a lot sognal lost
I've flown thousands and thousands of flights and had only a couple issues, but I can't say any of them came as a result of a spektrum Rx...I've had servos die, and lipo issues, and all sorts of other issues, but Rx'es haven't been mine.
Someone needs to learn how to slip!
Slipping - I do it all the time?!??!
Lol maybe crabbing then? Dirty up the air flow by cross controlling the plane. She’ll drop like a rock and slow down. Release sticks and float down nicely. You’ve got to turn that safe crap off though.
Aren't You Supposed To Yell "4" When You Slice One Off Like That? HeHeHeHe
LOL - I say DUCK!!!
