@maxbar64 That was kinda harsh. It's not a horrible tone, just not the correct one. The OP's playing is excellent, but if you're going to cover a Supertramp song, try to get in the neighborhood of Dougie Thomson's tone. You wouldn't cover Paul McCartney's flatwound Rickenbacker tone on a Beatles tune with a Chris Squire's growly/bright Ric tone.
I wore this cassette out! Very nice cover and it's ridiculous that these "content owners" can't seem to understand that cover videos are beneficial to them. Shame on you, Roger Hodgson.
Very cool! I’m curious as to why he’s relaxed his stance. Fleetwood Mac started backing off a few years ago when a guy on a skateboard, put out a viral video using one of their songs and it put their album back on the charts.
Just outstanding! Dougie Thomson is one of my all-time favorite bass players. Very understated, he added perfectly to what their songs needed Perhaps one of the best examples of excellent bass writing ever. Thx for covering!
Like many Troy Fans in here....we ALL knew that this video was from when you were in Junior High instead of your High School Senior Year Look you maintain in 2024! 🤣 I happen to resurrect this very tune less than 2 weeks ago to play myself, so it was a Deja Vu moment to see you post this. The "story" behind said posting is crazy and interesting to read. Having hung out on this channel for a few years now, myself and many in here know how cool and calm you are. But, getting the run around from The YT Gestapo Squad had to be frustrating even for you! Personally, I didn't think ANYONE could match Henley in his quest for100% Copyright Control Power! I was hesitant to cover this album after hearing your stories, but to my surprise, they didn't block a single song. Glad you got your cover released to the public after all of this time - way to go!
Back watching again just making sure this video is still available and not banished into the neververse and to remind myself how much we Troy fans enjoy the (seemingly) effortless brilliance of your playing punctuated by the occasional coffee break. 👏🏻
Absolutely phenomenal cover, Troy! After hearing this song played as "Goodbye Toby" in the TV show "The Office", I wasn't sure sure the name of the song, nor if I would ever hear it again! So thank you very much for helping a guy out. What a great, groovy bassline. Take care, all the best. - Lucas
Well.... on the plus side, at least we get to hear it at least once and I for one totally understand why you'd want to both play and feature this piece. It's one of those where the bass really makes the song but very few people usually recognise that. Thanks for posting Troy - superbly executed as always! Now if only Hodgson and Davies would get over themselves and admit that they totally need each other...!!
I remember putting a lot of work into this one, so I'd hate to waste it just because the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Thanks and take care!
Great song, and great cover, from one bassist to another! It always reminds of the episode of The Office where Toby leaves for Costa Rica. I also have a busy week for concerts. I’m catching shows in Albany, NY tonight, Sunday, and Wednesday, and one in Brooklyn Thursday.
Thanks a lot! I don’t think I saw that one. Was one of your shows Rainn Wilson at the Palace in Albany? I saw that he was doing an event there recently. We’re going to be up at The Palace in May for Kansas.

My first ever concert. In Bordeaux, France. Breakfast in America Tour. How I ended up in Tuckahoe, NY is still a mystery... :)) Great cover, Thank you! And gorgeous PB!!! New to the stable? Love it
Good to see you pop up in my feed again. I began watching you to help learn basslines. Since my stroke I'm selling gear, but I still try to imagine bass parts when I listen to music.
Welcome back. I'm so sorry to hear about your health situation and more sorry to hear that you find yourself unable to play. I hope you can find something else that will allow you to fill that void. Please take care and don't hesitate to ask if you think there is something I might be able to do for you. Take care.
Breakfast in America was the first "rock" album I ever owned back in Jr. High. It does have a a lot of cool bass parts in it. Well played Troy and that P-Bass tone is killer.
Yeah, I remember your response awhile back when I requested this song. Hopefully, it'll stay up. Thank you again, Troy! My son thinks your cats are awesome (and the cutest things in the world, he just told me to add to my post).😂
It should remain up. It seems as though Roger has had a change of heart... or something. We've got a good crew of cats and, hopefully, your son will get to meet a few of them. There are a couple that we can't get very close to, but they are good with the other cats.
One of my favorite Supertramp songs. Good choice Troy. Dougie is often overlooked when it comes to best bassist polls but he recorded some gems. Too bad I missed seeing the band in their heyday.

Hello, what kind of guitar is Yamaha TRBX174 for beginners?
Hello. I looked it up and it looks like they sell for a little over $200. You can be a beginner on any bass you want. The idea of starting out on an inexpensive bass is so you don't lose out on too much in case you don't stay with it. I have an Ibanez Talman TMB100 that was a $200 bass and I love it!
