    Raised in Glide, Oregon, been fishing the North Umpqua and many other NW rivers for Salmon/steelhead for a many years. Nothing better than Bass fishing around the NW. Pound for pound, they fight harder than most fish.

      Lucky you! I would love to live near the North Umpqua, love that river. And yeah, those big spring bass are a rush. Especially fishing in a small boat like my pontoon, I’ve had them grab a bait just as I’m reeling in the last few feet. Exciting! It’s nice to have a few bass trips in between all the steelhead and Salmon fishing. 🎣

    Just what I was looking for actually unintentionally hooked a couple large mouth this weekend while trout fishing. Bit I couldn’t get the much bigger ones to go on any gear I had. Left all my bass stuff at home because I’ve never found many bass where I was fishing. Couldn’t make the long drive for some Springer fishing last weekend.

      5” Senkos rigged weightless! Big bass nail them. Purple / Emerald and Green Pumpkin / Black flake are my favorites.

    I actually have the same question. I left Oregon for a few years and picked up fishing while in Illinois and Bass were everywhere. I returned to Oregon and quit fishing for 20 years because I knew nothing about salmon or trout. Almost when I retired, I tried to talk to an angler who always came to work showing steelhead pics. But when I mentioned that I learned fishing from bass angling in Illinois, his response was "Your one of those" and walked away. That just prompted me to bass fish even more. Easier than steelhead? I don't know never have. Easy period? I wouldn't say that except there are more of them, not as many rules, extra fees and you don't have to drive hours to get to a spot and enjoy some fishing. The bass do need to stay in ponds and lakes with no access to rivers as I believe they are not indigenous to the PNW. Salmon are extremely fragile, unlike the sunfish species (bass, red ear, crappie) so now that I'm retired, I will keep away so that you all can still fish a species I continue to see on the news that are in trouble or flat out disappearing. You should be happy I fish for bass, one less competitor.

      @RAGEFISHING  3 месяца назад

      “You’re one of those.” 🤣 That’s funny, how pretentious. Bass are not always easy and you are spot on, as horrible as it is to say, our Salmon and Steelhead runs aren’t getting much better, with some exceptions. More fishermen, more restrictions. Look at Washington, many of the famous steelhead rivers are closed or have very strict regulations. Bass are for sure an introduced species, but seem to thrive in Oregon and Washington. When all the other fishing is closed due to declining numbers, I think bass will all the sudden gain popularity. The other option is to take up golf. Thanks for the thoughtful comment, I appreciate it! 👍🏻

    If I could catch steelhead like I catch bass I would enjoy steelheading more 😂😂😂it’s all about location and how fisheries are managed in your local area. By me it’s very low numbers of steelhead and lots of good bass lakes.

    I’ve had great success using NED rig TRD “the deal” while trout fishing. Trout willingly take NED rigs. More than once however, Bass are on the bite and I get a good mix of both trout and Bass. No hate here, if it swims I’m chasing it. 😊

      The Ned Deal are awesome! I was going to swap out that senko, but I ran out of time. I should have said, “why do most steelheaders”. I know some of us are like you, if it swims we’re going after it. 😁

    The steelhead fishermen that might not like bass are usually uneducated on the subject from what I have seen over the years....I grew up chasing steelhead but once you figure them out it is quite boring doing the smae thing over and over, To each his own 🤷

      Another good point, steelhead fishing is incredible. They are awesome fish. However switching it up to other species keeps it interesting.

    Bass are fun just small and less fight. Not as good eating. Also in rivers bass are bad for salmon and steelhead. My answer lol. But they don’t hate bass or bass fishermen lol just a slower fishing

    • @RAGEFISHING

      I agree, if there were steelhead in the river 10 minutes from my place, that’s where I’d be. ‘Hate’ was just what popped out of my mouth, that’s how the title was formed. 😁 I think my point was, in general, they are not interested in it, especially videos featuring it. Since my channel was formed around steelhead fishing, most of my viewers are steelheaders. This video is currently rated 10 out of 10 of my last videos, getting 10% of the views I’d get at this point with a steelhead video. That’s okay, it’s why I changed my channel name from ‘Steelhead Rage’ to Rage Fishing, I like all fishing. I’m up at 1:45 this morning to go chase Springers! 🎣
      BTW Aaron, thanks for your involvement with the channel. I appreciate those who take the time to comment, especially with positivity. That’s what makes all the extra work worthwhile. 👍🏻
