Published January 2013 an I'm only getting it now. 'Story of my life, but better late than never. I wasn't really aware of Brian 'till a few months ago(when I retired)! Now i can't get enough this stuff. It's so well balanced and soooo sweet and as Andreas Walsh says..."a unique flow of energy". Cheers to all on this forum.
This is a stunning set. I've been learning this recently (on the whistle) and no way can I play it anywhere near as good as Brian.........but I try. If people say they don't like folk, they've not listened to Kan.
Ian uses a Roland VG-99 board with an RMC hex pickup. Has an octave down on the bottom two strings. Not actually MIDI, but modeling. Much better tracking than what you get with MIDI.
I don't know about "syrupy schlock". I thought it had a nice jazz feel to it. I'm guessing it was recently written, perhaps by Finnegan, so I don't think they're pretending that it's a traditional Irish song. What would you call truly traditional Irish music?
sam gellaitry's intertwine brought me here. So glad :)
Puts me in the zone. Waiting on the Sleeper CD from Merchbar since around May 1st, 2023.
This quite possibly could be the most beautiful piece of music on earth ❤️
Fucking unreal song
lucky number 27 likes i agree
It's magic ❣❣❣ Thank you very much 👋
I think Brian Finnegan is demented here haha, but it just shows the skill the man has! Legend!
Great comment I newer knew till you said it . Absolute legend brian
I listened to this literally 30+ times. What a great piece to listen to while reading.

stunningly beautiful track that deserves a more poetic title. Kan are/were amazing, thanks to them for the wonderful 'Sleeper' album
I did too. The waltz nearly moved me to tears!
Hey I saw them when they were in Calcutta. They were fantastic. They just blew me away.
First album I have bought in a long time. I simply cannot wait for a chance to see them live. Truly inspiring music with a lot of heart.

I've fallen in love with this arrangement. Haven't felt so moved by music in a long time.....an I'm oft moved by music.
Have you heard Brian Finnegan's songs "Starrs" and "Night Ride"?

the guitar is, he is using a Bass Pedal! :D
He uses midi, there's a video on the NK Forster youtube channel of Ian explaining it
Yeah, midi. I've seen the video. Brilliant stuff!

Can someone tell me what kind of whistle Brian is playing? Tin maybe?
Samuel Pembery on other videos I’ve watched (mainly Flook videos) he seems to be playing Chieftain whistles :)
Samuel Pembery a colin goldie whistle
Kevin Solgaard They’re Colin Goldie whistles. I play them myself. They’re the best :)
La banda de los dolapes
What's the first tune called
Trine730 lori reel, search in thesession
Daniel Oralio Manzutti any idea about the rest?
does anyone know how that guitar is tuned? is it standard?
+Jack “Does Stuff” Christopher With the capo on 3rd and standard tuning, if you try with your guitar the same position as he does, you'll hear ;) Bye.
I supose it is tuned in one of this (from the lowest to de highest string):
DADGAD (open D)
DADGBD
Just try one of them or similar.
@@MDugardin I came back 8 years later to find the answer.
@@JackHernandezGentlemanJack So now you know these are spread chords in standard 😁

Excellent musicians playing syrupy shlock for people who think this is Irish folk music.
...who said it was Irish?
