6:49 I just tested the parfocal and linear focus of my copy of this lens and I must say it’s almost 100% parfocal and linear. When the lens is at the closest focus, it moves maybe one mm when I zoom from 70-200.

Thanks for that insight. Appreciate it. Sounds like you love this lens as much as I do.

    Great review brother! New sub💪🏽
I’m a little sad I didn’t splurge on the GM version, but the macro capability sold me.

Thank you. Like this video. I ended up getting the 70-200/4 G II to use with my compact Sony bodies like the A7CII and A7CR because of its smaller size, lighter weight, and flexibility. Still also have my f/2.8 GMII version but I use that on my A1. Only have a 1.4X TC and wondering how sharp the lens is with the 2X TC. Take care.

Thank you for your kind words. I am very jealous of your camera and lens. I did end up finding the two times to converter. Just couldn’t take it anymore. Had to get it.

I got mine two days ago and I am very happy with it. I do miss the extremely good macro capabilities of the 90mm, but the focus breathing was simply too much for video. Did you end up missing the teleconverter? I am thinking about eventually getting the 1.4x since many people seem to think the 2x decreases the sharpness a bit. For now, I'll try out one of those cheap macro extension tubes and see how that fares.

I haven’t got the tele converter yet. But I do have a birthday coming. Sounds like you and I think alike. Thanks for the comment.

Nice review! Got one question, are you sure it isn't parfocal? Because mine doesn't lose focus when zoming in/out, in fact it is first lens that don't lose focus while changing focal, for example 200-600 often in reviews is called almost parfocal and miny copy never kept anything in focus while zooming in/out.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying that it is par focal. However, Sony is not bragging about that. I’ll have to test that further. Thanks for the tip. Appreciate your comment.

    Great video mate!
    Have my subscription 😊
Quick question, I pretty much shoot wildlife, nature view, portraits and video (a bit of everything i assume).
I have the sony a9 iii , how well do you think this lens will fair with the sony a9 iii having just /24mp ?
I have the 70-200 2.8, but this lenses size with macro seems so much more fun and usuable, and after watching ur video that its also good for video, im really thinking on getting it

Thanks for the encouraging words. I’m jealous of your Sony a9iii. I have never shot on one but I’m sure it would be great with this lens. However, your 70-200mm 2.8 is a fantastic lens. The only benefit I can see for the 4.0 lens is closer focusing distance and smaller size for traveling. So if that’s important to you I’m sure that the 4.0 would be a great lens to have in your bag. I certainly enjoy mine. Thanks for your insights.

as a sony a1 owner i also don't like the lack of any support of any cameras as soon as they're older then 3 months

7:20 the 2.8/24-70 GM II and the 2.8/70-200 GM II both have linear motors like your 35mm GM which makes them finally usable for working with your brain mapping or even with an AC (like with old slr-lenses). So it's nothing to do with being a zoom lens, I assume.

I understand that it has fixed aperture, but doesn't image get a little bit darker when zooming from wide to tele?

I haven’t noticed that. I will check and see. Thanks.

Is it good setup if I use standard iPhone 15 with its 13mm, 26mm and 52mm for close photography and just get a single Sony 70-200 F4 macro with 2x tele converter for everything else? I thought to get Sony 20-70mm F4 before this because it is just a single lens and it cover ultra wide to short tele but realised it's not ultra wide enough and tele enough and not 1:1 macro (I not sure if crop can make it macro enough tho) and my smaller to carry and less intimidated and always be with you iPhone going to cover a lot of it. But what camera should I pair with the 70-200mm F4, it will be a waste and less usability experience to get A7CR than a full size A7RV isn't it? How about Sony RX100 and RX10, will they still make new one with Exmor T sensor technology? They looks like better phone camera across the zoom range than way better than phone camera aren't they? I also like Hasselblad color better and just get a single 28mm F4 (22mm FF eq.) can allow me to crop a lot like from 22-176mm, Leica Q3 is nice one package camera too, So are Leica D Lux 7 / Panasonic LX100II? I also thought to get Sony Xperia 1 V as pocketable camera and iPhone 15 as pocket computer because it's color is more real life than iphone but you end up carry 2 phones that aren't much better than each other much. What do you guys think? I shoot as hobbyist and sometime use for personal works like product shoot. I don't care much about bokeh too because I prefer to shoot photo and video with story and creativity and not blue everything else other than the subject. Should I just shot completely on standard iPhone 15 and use Moment macro, tele and anamorphic lens on the primary iPhone 15 lens? I feel like phone still is like having only one main camera and the others on it are just nice to have and convenient enough to use.

The iPhone is awesome. And like you said, it’s more about storytelling than gear anyway. Thanks for sharing.
