You should be jet lagged more often. You were very funny and charismatic. The Orange Julep reminded me of Orange Julius. Remember those Orange drinks you could get at malls? Can you make a cocktail that tastes like those? That would be yummo!
Sometimes the "strange episodes" are just a lot of fun. Thanks for all your wonderful content - has changed how I approach the entire process of making drinks!
Honestly, the way he got so squeaky with indignation was delightful. Anders, thank you so much for entertaining & educating us all so well. Also, a snood is a hair thing, look it up. It's easier to understand if you see it than if I try to explain it.
I use to post cocktails I made on social media and then family started to send me these things as gifts during the holidays and I just never have the heart to tell them they end up in the trash. If you want to give your cocktail makers in your life a gift, just get them any bottle of white or aged rum that is mid to top shelf and you can get away with a 20-30 dollar gift that they will love.
Similar here. It's well known by family that I'm very into cocktails. They send me recipes akin to apple cider and bourbon and cinnamon stick. I just don't have it in me to tell them that's just a mixed drink, might as well be a rum and coke
unfortunate how most people can't realize that these sorts of gift boxes aren't for enthusiasts, but for people that know either very little or nothing at all about any given thing that the gift boxes entail, not necessarily just cocktails and spirits. I imagine that if i had gotten something like that 12 nights of cocktails as a gift before i started dabbling with cocktails myself, i'd get hooked on much much sooner, for better or worse lol
I've started keeping a 30% malic acid solution in a dropper bottle to liven up sodas or non-citrus fruit drinks (it improves colas tremendously). It means you don't have to keep acid adjusted fruit juice around for cocktails. Might help with those drinks.
This is the funniest thing I've watched in months. Thanks for putting yourself and your palate (may it rest in peace) out there for the rest of us. Cheers!
Does anyone else want to see an ANDERS 12 DAYS OF COCKTAILS for December. 🙋♀️ This was so much fun to watch. Thanks for enlightening us on what’s in those calendars, I am going to pass on them.
I want to see him do Wet January - 28 days of cocktails. Preferably as like a periodic table of cocktails. Showing links and evolutions between cocktails.
Now I want to try the canned ones! The cans are so cute ❤ And a plus for these is that if you aren’t sure you would like a cocktail maybe this is a way to try a new drink and the invest in the ingredients if you find one you like
A snood is a basically a hairnet. They were popular in the Victorian era and you see some cosplayers in them at Renaissance fairs. I shall now associate angry disappointed Anders with them for ever.
Hi Anders! Tonight I will be trying a cocktail called the Bronze Bull, from a bar I used frequent years ago. Bourbon, pear liqueur, lemon juice, and Demerara syrup infused with clove. I don't know the measurements they used, only the ingredients, so I'm going to be workshopping it a bit.
@@AndersErickson Yeah, highly recommend it. The only change I made to the recipe above was adding a couple dashes of ginger bitters, and that gave it some extra brightness and a little more balance.
This made me laugh out loud, much like the stories behind the bar episode. Just enough joy juice in his veins at the end to vent a full on perfect rant
I am generally a gin drinker, but recently I have been using a Japanese Whisky mixed with sweet vermouth and triple sec. Not sure if that has a name, but it has been a nice cocktail.
It took me about 2 years to build out my bar (started with good basics and gradually added as I went through a list of "classic" cocktails). It's the best decision I've ever made. Now I only have to buy a bottle when one starts to get low and I still get to try new variations (different whiskeys or gins, etc). It is worth it and more affordable (if done slowly) than you think. Cocktails from my home bar are significantly cheaper and much better quality than most restaurants/bars
I like straightaway but knowing they make their own stuff its a different twist everytime for good and for bad the chartruese substitute is pretty good for the cost
My wife brought home 12 Nights of Cocktails for me to try. I concur with your assessments regarding the spirit forward cocktails, they were good. The ones with 'juice' in them were nasty and had a terrible chemical taste. 😂
this was one of my favorite videos because of how hilarious it was. Thankfully can't get ANY of those tasting sets near me so have to rely on your regular videos to make my cocktails.
This one was a lot of fun. Since you asked, I was drinking a Mezcal Mai Tai. A split base of mezcal and Appleton 12 with agave, orgeat, curaçao and lime. Delicious.
I have had most of the straightaway since they are local company and our liquor stores highlight them, they are great if you are camping or traveling, the liquor forward ones definitely pack a punch, the citrus ones are good, but I have to admit I add an additional fresh squeeze of lime or lemon
I love unhinged and blunt Anders, it's just as good as Greg on How to Drink. This brightened my day after getting really sad news. Thanks, I hope the vacation was fun. The closest thing I've bought to any of those is a bottle from TJ Max, it was a "Just add Vodka" bottle it's Cosmopolitan seasoned. It contains dried orange and cranberry, and mystery powder(I think it contains sugar, acid, and red dye). It's okay, for what it is. I made it with tequila because flavor, and added some triple sec and elderflower liqueur. Though the main reason I purchased it was for the skull bottle stopper. I tend to stick with classic ingredients, though I do enjoy spirits that have some kitschiness to them or are obscure. What do I do with Italicus and or Suze. I made a French Lemonade(lemon juice, simple syrup, soda water).
So 3 take-aways if I get the Straight-Away, Read instructions, lower expectations, and add a little citrus to the citrus ones I always make my own cocktails, if I go for something in a can it’s usually Twisted Tea mainly because it’s not seltzer
My wife gave me that last set for Christmas last year. I think I tried the whiskey sour last January and the rest have sat under my bar ever since. After watching this I can say that my taste compares to Anders Erickson's. :D
My wife's aunt and uncle got me one of those sets because they knew I liked cocktails. They were so excited about it, but it made me so sad. I felt bad that I had to be pretend happy for them.
Yeah, well aware of jet lag. Just got back yesterday and not sure what day it is. I usually (and have always have) dislike/d prepackaged cocktails. Thanks for reconfirming this for me!
I literally physically felt your pain and disgust. Poor Anders. OMG that colors where somehow disturbing. Will have my second Pendennis Club now tonight, which I love and know just thanks to you. Please recover quckly from that experience, my thoughts are wit hyou.
Cider Mill! As someone whos from DC, the DC cocktails book is special because it's broken down by neighborhood and even tho I grew up in Barry Farm and live in Brightwood now i have memories of going to Adams Morgan and Ivy City and all the called out places. ❤❤
Damn, son! The spitting, alone, was worth the price of admission. It reminded me of the late journalist Murray Kempton 's account of Nikita Khrushchev 's first taste of Pepsi Cola: "To be able to spit out in public disgust something disgusting....Oh, how I envied him!". Made me grateful for the dregs of my still cold Broker's Martini.
Hahaha this is easily my favorite video of yours! I was watching it with my wife sleeping next to me and I was biting my lip soo hard to stop myself from busting out in laughter and waking her. PLEASE do more of these videos, they are hilarious!
You using the shakers instead of just shaking the drinks in the can had me rolling! 😂 I’ve def had moments like that in my life. I bought the Costco set and have been enjoying slowly working my way through it. It’s fun, and they actually do a pretty good job with the cocktails.
Hello from Portland! Thanks for trying the Straightaway cocktails. I've had maybe half of them and I agree, the spirit forward ones are fun. They serve them on a lot of airplanes out of PDX and they make for quite the nice tipple when you're up in the air. If you haven't, I'd recommend obtaining their amaros, especially the Mari Gold. We refer to it as bartender's duct tape in Portland as it really can fix almost any cocktail. I use three of them on my featured cocktail list at the bar I work at.
I love my book, Cocktails: The New Classics, so much and I’m so happy I got it last year at a TJ Maxx. It was a steal. With that said, Anders, you have to try to make 5 cocktails from that book that you never had before.
You are so correct!!! Once you build your bar, there’s nothing better than creating your own cocktails. Tried the Lion’s Tail last night and it was fabulous! Cheers! 😎🥃

You have my condolences for drinking those. I watched while sipping a Fairbanks Cocktail no. 1 from the Savoy Cocktail Book p. 68. I now alter it to 1 pt apricot brandy, 2 pts dry vermouth and 3 pts dry gin which I think is more balanced. Cheers
This was a pretty fun episode. I've been seeing a lot of advent calendars based around various boozes and cocktails, so I was kind of curious how they would turn out.
For Halloween I had 'Faeries wear Roots'. Built like a jack and coke but its absinthe and root beer. The louche made it look questionable but I liked the taste. Try it.

About halfway through I got a hankering for a good Manhattan (mine's Eagle Rare, carpano antica, a barspoon of Benedictine, and black walnut butters), and I'm SO GLAD I had that before getting to the end 🤣
Much as I'd like to drink tonight, I have obligations that require me to be awake and alert. Yeah, reminds me of the episodes that James Hoffmann does on bad coffee products. Very fun and good to see some were actually palatable.
Anders, thank you for taking one-well, about two dozen-for the team.
Yes. very much thank you for taking the hit.
You know it’s bad for that manhattan when Anders’ voice goes up 3 octaves trying to discuss the atrocity that he just tasted. Lol!

Slightly buzzed Anders is the content I didn’t know I needed!
Dear Anders, laughed till we cried over this episode! Thank you for taking one for the team to save us from the horrific cocktail gift packs.

Probably better than the sum of its parts
The look on my face when I got a notification from Anders on MONDAY.

"This is not anybody's cup of tea" possibly my favorite quote so far. As for what I'm drinking, Jameson Black Barrel, Ginger & Lime.

Alaska Air gives the straight away old fashioneds in first class and holy hell they pack a punch.
Agree. I had them on my flights this summer. Expected a bland watered down cocktail. Whoa!
Yes, I came here to say this. They're great, although I've only had the old fashioned. I was thankful we arranged for a driver once we landed in Cabo.
A snood is a basically a hairnet. They were popular in the Victorian era and you see some cosplayers in them at Renaissance fairs. I shall now associate angry disappointed Anders with them for ever.
Gift sets are my absolute favourite when they're the "you get a tiny liqueur and a nice glass"
Even better when it's a full sized bottle haha
We have quite a few of those in the Netherlands and they're not too expensive
21:55 “or I will taunt them a second time” sounds like a monte python insult lol
Found these Straightaway cocktails on Alaska Airlines. Portable, great for camping and tasty. The Old Fashioned versions and Bees Knees are best
