Great voices! When I sing Tosca, the vocal technique of Montserrat is the winning weapon to overcome even the most difficult passages. Thanks Montserrat!
Who says that Caballe couldn't act? She's very believable here and is in great form vocally with some especially long-held high Cs. Carreras is a handsome Cavaradossi and if his voice lacks the glow it had only five years earlier it's still a fine performance. Pons was always good and so was taken for granted. This is an enjoyable Tosca with three terrific principals!
Montserrat, hearing this voice is like getting a massage, its a voice of oil and rose petals. She awakens the senses. For light and shade this voice is in a class of its own. What an interpreter of song!
My music Channel they were meant to just sing together. She is my favorite soprano and he is my favorite tenor. Prior to them it was love Divina and Corelli. Of course leontyne price is incredible and was born to sing Aida. I'm so glad I saw her in concert twice.
Caballé began singing late 50s,in 1977 she began singing Turandot,at about the same time of the video she was singing a beautiful different from the coventional and much more interesting Turandot in Paris Opera, fortunately we have the video. How is that possible that a singer that sang so many roles indeed more than a hundred......and lasted so many years only possible with great technique .The last opera she sang was Henry VIII by Saint-Saens 2001 at Liceu Barcelona we have the video too but ruined by the horrible sound, and in 2011 she was still singing recitals all over the worldHere in Lisbon she sang Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) Iphigenia Gluck and Ariadne (Naiade),Norma 1972 and many recitals and concerts, she was a very nice person always signing her many fans photos and programs and giving photos . She will be in my heart forever.
Such angelic Monsarre’s voice, I will never forget 🌹🌹🌹🌹 Shame, when she died, not received the respect, she deserved, due to political ideology. She afforded to give Spain and Cataluña county, all her wonderful artistic presence, in all over the world. Doña Sofía (Queen mother) was the only one, who presented the rightful respect. Monserrat is singing now, with the angels. 🌹🌺🌷💕👏👏👏👏
What a cast! I'm a huge fan of Carreras but it's really Juan Pons that just takes my breath away here. He's so compelling that it's hard to take your eyes off of him. And that incredible voice of his makes him the perfect Scarpia, menacing, powerful and dangerous. This is one performance of Tosca where I truly feel the emotion and tension throughout the entire performance.
Pons was in unbeatable voice here. Listen to that ringing tone, unique to him. Good cast all round. Right down to the lesser players. All singing well.
David Duryea I suspect the audience was told not to applaud until the end of the act because of the broadcast. They used to attempt that at live broadcasts and recordings.
But they applauded after E Lucevan le Stelle later in the performance. I guess each country has its own way of showing their approval. At the Met they would have applauded.
David at the Metropolitan Opera. If that was today they would apply to somebody run naked down the aisles. That's how bad it is at the met today they've lost so much of their leadership in regards two great artist and performances. Their last telecast of Aida is a perfect example. And how mr. Gelb did not even acknowledge that LA SUPERBA have passed away early that morning was inexcusable. That performance was so mediocre and Nebtreko was so mediocre the the Mezzo soprano gave a good performance. Need I say more
Most fascinating to me even beyond the golden age of opera glory having Pons, Caballe and a young Carreras onstage is the historic authority of the blocking of Napoleonic Burbons practially wiping out the Habsburgs. Carreras and Caballe are as gloriuia in their visual portrayal of born in was Habsburg territoryt as is Pons in his glorious visual portrayal of born in Bourbon what was Bourbon territory
I know…she was extraordinary. As a singer but also as a person - she was very caring and warm. But her singing… Every time I listen to her enchanting voice, I feel like falling in love with her. And I’m a woman 😂
+RAY WATSON Just about everyone who knows his early work, particularly his early Verdi and Puccini. He was the best, his timber being the most beautiful, far better than Domingo's.
Scarpia, superbe.
Adoro Montsie,Carreras e Ponce....ottima edizione di Tosca
Gosh, if he were sing to me that way, he could paint my eyes any color he wanted.
Great voices! When I sing Tosca, the vocal technique of Montserrat is the winning weapon to overcome even the most difficult passages. Thanks Montserrat!
😘😆🥰🥰😆😘😘😊
It's marvelous. And very sad. Whenever I watch I cry
Giacomo Puccini is my great great grandad - all love ❤️
Fake. The last descendant of Puccini died in 2017.
and montserrat caballe is my grandma
Ottima recitazione, ottimo canto

Juan is marvelous here, only 33 or 34 and recently moved up from the bass fach, on the advice of Montserrat. Very fresh of voice!

I'm 32 and look like I could be his grandson... I'm a bit ashamed
@@enthusedtosing9655 Nothing to be ashamed of!
Che bella Tosca, un piacere!
Thank you for the chance to view this performance by these talented performers!
What a gift to be able to see this cast with the legendary Caballe
Que maravilloso elenco ,una autentica joya musical 🎹🎶🎵🎼🎹🎶🎵🎼😍😍😍😍😍
Montserrat, hearing this voice is like getting a massage, its a voice of oil and rose petals. She awakens the senses. For light and shade this voice is in a class of its own. What an interpreter of song!
bendabledoll These voices are pure art!

This video is totally glorious. Dot it’s absolutely one of my favorites that I watch over and over. Thank you for posting.
Caballe and Carreras are my favorite, especially this period when they were both in fine, full voice. Thanks for uploading.
Two of the most magnificent voices ever!
beautifull, very well sung, she was at her top moment at that time.
Montserrat Caballé, The Voice of the Opera. REP.
Carreras delivers unmatched in beuaty performance of Recognita Harmonia. Grateful to the poster. Gracias
It’s unbelievably how Caballe managed to go virtuously to smooth all Tosca’s things over
What do you mean? (Not a native English speaker so didn’t get that and I’m curious)
Marvelous Performance. All in glorios voice !
Pons was in unbeatable voice here. Listen to that ringing tone, unique to him. Good cast all round. Right down to the lesser players. All singing well.
I was there so many years ago, unforgettable all the cast....
I love it. Death of Scarpia is the best moment in opera ever.
It's one of the best. You spoke facts.
The complete trio from Barcelona (Caballé, Carreras and Pons). The jewels from Catalonia (Cataluña).
wonderful cast, wonderful voices ! Glory to the Lord, GOD, for inventing opera !
I am sure of one thing, this Tosca did not jump off the Castel Sant'Angelo.
RIP Montserrat
Tres. Divos grans catalans!!!!
Una tosca meravigliosa w Montserrat Caballé R.I.P
So difficult to make it look so easy and sound so great!
baryton fabuleux!....bravo!! pons!
Ooooh so sublime!
Wonderful!!!
GRAN VERSION DE TOSCA
what???!!!! NO applause for Carreras afther that meltingly lovely rendition of Recondita Armonia???!!!! Disgraceful!!!!

But they applauded after E Lucevan le Stelle later in the performance. I guess each country has its own way of showing their approval. At the Met they would have applauded.
Everyone gets applause after E Lucevan le Stelle, try and not applause after that! :D
Personally I don't like it when people give applause in the middle of Puccini operas.
David at the Metropolitan Opera. If that was today they would apply to somebody run naked down the aisles.
