Thank you..... Seriously, for your honesty and going through exactly what i did.
I said in a comment ages ago, that EVERY collector will go through this moment.
I am 43, i used to own, NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Mega CD, 3D0, Jaguar, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro, XB, 360, XB1, XB1X...... Then i had hundreds of games, for every console.... we have a lovely home, we take real pride in our home.
But i had shelving units after shelving units of games, games and more games.
Then i had all my boxes from the consoles all on display.
I woke one morning and thought ''What are you doing, you utter bell end''.
It is all for show..... Collectors don't like hearing this and they get quite arsy, but it is true.
What do ALL collectors do? Have all their gaming collection on show in their home, too show off too their mates.
If not, they video their collection, and come on RUclips too ''show off'' too people on here.
Now there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, if that is your thing all power too you, but don't bulls##t, because every collector, collects too show off...... But eventually every collector says ''why''?
I did..... If i died, all of it would be sold off.
I didn't play on half of it..... Why keep it?
So i got rid of the lot, or 90%.
Gave some to pals, gave some to charity, sold the rest.
Now, i am so relieved to have it all gone.
I still have a great set up, Series X, PS5, PC, Monitor and Oled.... but that's it.
All games are digital, my game room is clean, crisp, clear set up.... No showing off, no boxes, just i own what i own, and what i own..... I use.
I love gaming, i love retro, hence why i watch people that do collect, because i just can't be arsed too lol.
But collect for the right reasons, because people are doing it, just because it is the ''In thing too do''.
Take ASMR, that became a huge thing and now on RUclips you have everyone doing ASMR.
Now, you have thousands of people building a game collection, and the issue is, for those that do this..... You are killing the hobby, because you have everyone filming themselves going too their local charity shops, picking things up for next too nothing, and selling them at huge profit.... Now what's happening?
Charity shops and boot sales are all upping their prices, because there are 1,000's of videos a week from content creators, showing how much you make from their stock, so they are upping their prices.
Collect for YOU!
Don't collect too show off, it gets VERY unhealthy and obsessive.
It was weird, i love gaming, but all my collection was making me depressed, as soon as i got rid of all i didn't need, i found my want too game again.
Glad you are doing what makes YOU happy, life is way too short.
Keep what you cherish and what you will play on, then offload the rest! you'll feel so much happier.
To be fair, the last few videos I did get the idea you were a little jaded with things, the editing sounds tedious.
Shame to see some of the collection go, it’s been a great journey getting where it has. You’ll have a great time in Florida!

as someone whos done this dont do it. im not a massive collector its just games i brought over the years and never traded in.I had 200 games and one day i just decided lets get rid of few of these and it turned into 70% of my collection that i didnt need or played anymore, that was my mind set at the time but i wont lie i missed having the collection and over time waited for sales and got a most of them back. now im just going to keep my games.
Don't sell off your games. You'll regret it. Once your back from your one off holiday you'll regret it

@@shortmotions he will regret it. A holiday is all great on the build up but once it's done its done. Retro games only go one way over time and that's up. He's bragging about how much some of his stuff has gone up to and how he's making good profits from selling his games. That's great, but as a collector that's just going to fuel the disappointment when you realise afterwards you made a mistake and everything is going to cost double or more than what he had originally paid for this to get them back.
Look at his collection. This isn't just some guy who's gone through a phase of collecting and then after a couple of months decided it's not for him. He's going to regret it

This just isn't true for everyone. Sold off about 70% of my collection years ago and haven't thought about it. He was collecting for the sake of it and not because he was actually enjoying the games.
You don't need to apologise to anyone, let alone us randos on RUclips, for prioritising other things in your life. I think it's great that this project which you've clearly put so much time and effort into is enabling you to do things which have more immediate value and meaning to you than a shelf of games you don't intend to play. Anyone who throws shade at you for this decision is missing the point and, if anything, they should be glad that you're putting games out there for other collectors to get their hands on.
Personally, I'm looking forward to following this more curated approach to your collection and hearing about why you've decided to keep some games over others. And as someone who is mulling over what to do with a cache of games and peripherals I no longer need for my collection, I'll be on the look out for any insights or tips you may share along the way regarding what items/games have sold quickly, how much they sold for, pros and cons of selling on ebay vs vinted etc.

I think cashing out now on your Switch collection is probably the worst idea, especially choosing to collect disc based games, cos the value in them are significantly worse. Switch is one of them forever consoles where the games will always hold a great value, especially to your modern day collector. Also it sounds like you just wanted money in general and not just for your trip, stuff like workout clothes is easily gotten from thrift shops anyways, i think your frivolous approach to game collecting would be better applied elsewhere, if you was really serious about saving up.
Hey TVM, fellow South Wales collector here, and Disney fan. Typically go 1-2 times a year. If you have the time whilst over there, take a trip to Cybertron Video Games, its not too far from Universal. I spent far too much money there earlier this year. (Finally got a Nomad!)
Do what you feel is best. I always hate the feeling of having too much stuff and wanting to buy or do something else. I’m fortunate I earn good money and have 2 vehicles I’ve paid for etc but I can definitely say you know what’s best for yourself at the time!

Tell your misses to sell some stuff too it’s not fair on u ,u will regret selling up stuff because u will end up starting collecting again at more expense not worth it bro wish u look and the best u are probably just tired take time off 👍

Funny, as I checked earlier on when you last made a video and saw it was nearly 2 weeks.
I understand you for a 100%. you have to set priorities in life. I'm thinking of selling part of my collection aswel in order to have some extra money for a renovation i'm planning on. Mainly i'm going to sell games that have some value but don't really mean anything to me. I don't see the point in keeping them when, just like you are doing, the money could be spend for something better. :)

Honing down your collection to make way for other things is totally acceptable, I personally sell, buy and collect high end Pokemon cards and I've sold off a lot of cards that I wished I could keep but sometimes that's life. I'd recommend taking a step back and really consider what you want to collect the most, perhaps build up a list of some grail items to grind for through the same means as this series. It's a shame Whitchurch (or Bristol as you call it) car boot has been off the last two weeks, traverlers have took up residence on the car boot site and from my knowledge haven't moved off yet :( See you at the next one though mate. I sold off some games and consoles last year to get a new bicycle. No regrets :) Hope you keep on with the series though as its entertaining! That said I havent done a video in a year for the same reasons as you said early in the video :D
Inhave been there as a collector I had a massive pop collection with figures from way back when the whole thing started. I sold them all and yes I did make some really good money and my family had a brilliant Christmas but I look at my shelves where they once were and I miss them. Because of that I just refuse to sell any of my games now

I Hope The Trip Goes Well Because It Be Halloween Before You Know It After The Summer Has Been & Gone.. Let Alone I Love Your Pick Up Kind of Videos But If Things Get In The Way I Get That.. Dude I totally get it. I love your videos but totally understand your reasonings. The editing side of things does sound pretty mundane, hard work and takes the fun out of it.

We've all been there pal. If your free gaming collection can fund your holiday then go for it. You can always build it back up again. Florida is awesome, been twice when I was a kid. Watch out for their added tax rule tho, something can say $20 but then you get to the till and they add the tax on after, so it's like $24 now instead 😢
I'm usually a lurker, not a commenter. But life comes first and you've got to prioritise. I wouldn't worry too much about how it makes certain people feel, as I'm sure the vast majority will say do what's best for you and continue to watch whatever content you do put out. About holidaying in Florida (Disney World): Me and the girlfriend went for two weeks last month from the UK. We stayed at one of the Deluxe resorts 'Wilderness Lodge' (It was amazing!). The whole holiday was expensive. everything is Disney prices, and like you said you need to tip everywhere, it's a little nuts. Saying that, I would do it again. Selling some of your collection to pay for an amazing holiday with wife is totally worth it. Like you said, live in the moment and enjoy life. If you have items sat on the shelf not being used and could bring in some money, do it. Hope you both have an amazing time out there. We did!

They're just sitting there doing nothing. It's like having £20k just sitting in a draw doing nothing, when it can be put to good use. I've lost the love of collecting them, so if that's how you're feeling then do it.

A lot of the time people build up a collection as an investment. If it’s helping pay for a big-time holiday with the wife, i’d say its worth it bud.

Damn, had no idea for the 10-year fifa grind.. Def goes to show how pivoting can make a night and day difference! I'd say ebay > CeX, mortgage / stocks > holiday. Make more money, you wont have to care about luxury items, or a big holiday. I'll set Phoenix Resale as an example as well, just the business side of reselling can be very profitable, you dont even need YT. loving your content though mate, enjoy life no matter what any of us think, and damn bro, hire an editor haha!

You need a converter for some region locked GENSIS games. Some games are not region locked.
I’ve always thought how do people have the time and patience to edit videos for youtube. Fair play to people and yourself that provide the content but there’s no way I’d even contemplate it. Seems like a lot of hard work for not much in return

I'd wonder what the loss in youtube revenue is by doing a huge sell off. Personally I'd do a good thinning of stuff that isn't springing joy. This seems more a mental health funk and guilt about owning a valuable collection, in reality that collection is the tools of a small business.

Buying shoes and clothes that you don’t really need was also disappointing to hear, probably won’t watch anymore of your videos after hearing the poor attitude you have towards games and how quickly you will bin them off for a pair of shoes or a T-shirt
