Not being a collector of these I never realised that this was such a problem. The trouble is, once you know it’s a fake, you could never be truly happy with it. I know I couldn’t. Good video mate, very helpful for collectors to know.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Does anyone have experience of taking a cart like this back to cex? Are they OK about it? There's a worry they might think you're trying to pull a fast one.
A long time ago I tried trading in a Nintendo ds lite, into cex and they said the ds lite was fake, just from looking at the cartridge slot, they told me that will buy it in as discounted, I refused and sold it somewhere else, cex make-up lies to get items cheaper, the last time I was in cex they tried to buy in my 16gb stick of ddr3 ram as a 4gb stick of ram, I pointed on the stick where it said 16gb,and they were like. Nope that's a 4gb,and they madeup some bullshit about the stick coming in a pack of four so it's a 4gb, I told them if it came in a pack of four it would be a 64gb kit, making this ram stick a 16gb module. They didn't want to hear any of it, because they know I was right and they were wrong, always stand your ground and don't let cex scam you into a transaction.
The embossed number on it did look suspect it but it’s a good fake. I’ve bought this game from CeX before and I got the real thing. They upped the price to £20 now unboxed. I remember though trying to get hold of Klonoa for the GBA and took me four attempts before I got a genuine cartridge 💀
I wouldnt say its CEX doing it again. its just that retro is a small part of their business, amd the people that check them in wasnt even around when these games came out. so you can see why. If they trained all the staff regarding all the things to look out for, they would have to charge even more for the items, so i guess its really for the buyer to know. To be fair it seems a lot of effort to repro such a low value game. it probably would have been cheaper to buy it new. 👍
That’s the issue right there isn’t it, it’s definitely a training issue but then if an item is over a certain amount then they might have to have a manager look over it. I did a bit of digging and the board is the exact one you can buy off Etsy. It’s a blank board and you flash the game on there. Baldur’s Gate cart only is £30ish on eBay but boxed is approaching £80 so maybe it was in a fake box at one point, who knows?
Sorry for the late reply, how have you got on? I never got a refund as I didn’t actually check the cartridge for around 6 months so it would be hard for me to prove that the cartridge was the one I purchased from CEX
@@GriffosRetroGaming ah fair enough. That's a shame mate. I returned mine and they didn't even question it really. I didn't wanna make a fuss because I wanted my money back but I'm almost certain they will just re sell it to some other poor bugger
yes this happened to me I bought Mario advance 4 sm3 and I thought it was a good deal at the time but because you are buying from a video game specialist you would think it was real but when you get home and its not real it just angers me
Totally agree with you on that, the whole “just take it back” isn’t the point is it, they are selling the product and should ensure that it isn’t a fake before selling. I worked in a pawnbrokers and if we sold fake gold we’d have received a fine
Could be another reason why it's like that. That motherboard looks pretty legit otherwise. Maybe the cart didn't work properly at some point and the previous owner tinkered with it? Worth pondering as it's not really the type of game people would go out of their way to fake. It's neither expensive or even particularly popular. Just seems odd to me.
It could be a simple thing of the pins have rusted so the replaced the board. It turns out that the board is a blank which you flash a game onto and they’re sold on Etsy and the like. It’s a game that has real value if boxed so it could have been originally sold in a fake box to get real money and make it worth while, who knows? Hope you’re well buddy, you off to Donny market?
@@GriffosRetroGaming That makes a lot more sense. Didn't think of it like that. I'm glad I stopped gba collecting as it really is a minefield now. When I was building my collection it was mostly just Pokemon being bootlegged. I would love to go to Doncaster but I don't think I can make it within the time frame. Don't really have the funds currently.
Plenty of fake games on many systems about. I'm sure fake DS are in their system and you can't open them up, its purely a visual check that can be done. I'm sure most disc based copies are simple to spot?
Pretty much what Nath said, that is why I never buy GB/GBC/GBA because it just appears to be a combination of a minefield and a lottery. Time is precious enough as it is without having to take a small screwdriver set with me when I am game hunting 🤣 Good video though mate, lets hope it helps people spot the good ones from the fakes 😊👍🐻
Sadly Nath is right, the market is getting saturated with fakes, that why you collect Wii?? 😜 Oh yeah carry a screwdriver. It’s sad that you have to but too many con artists around. Hopefully it does help, I can’t blame CEX too much as it’s hard to tell if you’ve not had the training but on a cartridge I’d say that taking a look at the board should be part of their policy as it’s in their interests. Hope you get to Donny mate 👍
Thats a good fake, thanks for the heads up! If I see the two digits punched into the label, I would normally just assume its legit!!! So many Gba fakes out there! 👍
Yeah unless you see the actual board then it could be just a real shell. Not too bad an issue on lower end games but on expensive games 😬 Thanks for watch and definitely be aware
How can it be a fake if it has the Nintendo logo on the pcb, the ntsc version doesn't have the epoxy button on the cartridge, but the pal releases do. It's a genuine cartridge. I think you need to be educated about genuine pcb's. I've seen plenty of pal pcb's with this button.
It’s most definitely a fake. That particular board can be bought off Ali Express, Wish and even Etsy for various prices. There’s only a few cartridges that use Epoxy like Mario Bros on NES and I believe Tetris on Gameboy. So on further reading I believe this to be a real case with a fake board. Maybe the original broke so they swapped it out, flashed the game on and sold it on. Somehow it’s found it’s way into CEX along the way
@@GriffosRetroGaming I've seen these fake boards on ali express, and they don't have the Nintendo branding or the serial numbers on the pcb, if it is a fake how did they manage to make a 1-1 clone.
I would prefer to buy a fake cartridge, then a battered, worn cartridge with corroded pins. If it was a fake, the pin contacts would be clean, your version has heavy wear. Why don't you compare it to all your other cartridges. I read online that the epoxy button is there to protect the microprocessor beneath it. There is no way that this is a fake.
Precisely why I don't really buy gba anymore.. Too many half decent fakes. Not surprised cex got stung. I have before but not by them. Shame about the game mate
It’s a minefield isn’t it. It’s easy to see how CEX got stung as it’s an extremely convincing copy. I actually believe the shell is real and they got the board off ali express and swapped it out. They go for upwards of £30 on ebay
Man that looks like a good fake, it's almost like it's in a genuine case and wasn't expecting to see Nintendo printed on the board either I'm glad I don't collect GB stuff as it seems the worst system of all for hard to spot repro's. Sorry you got stung mate👍✌️
It’s very good isn’t it, the fact that the Epoxy is so clean and perfectly shaped is worrying too. The board are bought as blanks on sites like Etsy and the like. The plus side is that it works and it’s actually pretty good on the GBA
Not being a collector of these I never realised that this was such a problem. The trouble is, once you know it’s a fake, you could never be truly happy with it. I know I couldn’t.
Good video mate, very helpful for collectors to know.
I just bought some fake game boy games from CEX yesterday, I didn’t realise until I looked at them when I got home
Bloody hell, they need better training on these type of things. You getting a refund?
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I wonder how many fake games we all have in our collections that we don't know about?
Scary isn’t it, especially if you aren’t clued up because you would be blissfully unaware
Does anyone have experience of taking a cart like this back to cex? Are they OK about it? There's a worry they might think you're trying to pull a fast one.
Not sure about if you suspect something is fake but they are pretty good with returns in general
The lettering of gameboy advance at the top of the cart is definitely a sign it's fake.
Really helpful that mate. Could it be a legit case with a fake board then?
I can only imagine how many fake copies of gba stuff is out there bud. I wouldnt of had a clue what to look for
Ever need help just let me know, a few in the group are clued up on it all
