I love that Dabo is back.
Dabo is back?
Dabo did exactly what i thought he would, keep everything behind closed doors, and get things done his way, and that's the way it should be done, fans don't coach the football games, Dabo Swinney does.
I dunno, it's the FIRING that stings; seems like all other coaches find other jobs for their guys first, let alone a legacy guy with an extensive Clemson record dating back to his playing days (including with a broken collar bone). I'm just glad we're still paying Coach Streeter, & I imagine Coach Swinney is as well, but it still definitely felt messy is all.
Jeff Scott is back as an "analyst." He'll be learning the scheme like he did under Chad Morris and is the OC waiting in the wings when Riley takes a HC job. Rumor from a little birdie VERY close to the program has it Dabo is also talking to Steve Smith Sr. as a WR coach.
i hope so because grisham hasn't developed any wrs
I've heard that as well from another comment on a different video. I'm not sure what the source is and how much that actually means but I've heard Steve Smith or David Shaw.
Jeff Scott news has been reported but not officially announced or confirmed…. Hope all the reports are true tho
Bringing Jeff Scott back is arguably as big of a move as bringing in Riley. Scott is one of the best recruiters in the country. Dabo did great here.
@@michaelskriba6201 I agree. Especially when that is his main job. He doesn't have to worry about a position group or coaching them up. He can focus on being an analyst and recruiter.
Save Clemson? Why is that the headline, it's not like we're a 5-7 program or something lmao
I thought that was a bit clickbaity as well. But if you read other titles from them, it seems to have infected the platform.
We just fired a guy from being a single play away from the playoff, and he was a Clemson die-hard with his dream job on a 1-year term from a 3-year contract.
Clemson will not settle for not making the playoff this year, or else Riley, too, will be fired.
@@Greydawg "From being a single play away from the playoff" buddy have you not watched his offense this year? 14 points against ND in a blowout loss, 99 passing yards against a mediocre SC defense while only giving our star running 3 carries in the second half? 14 points in the orange bowl against one of the worst defenses in the power five? And Riley isn't getting fired his first year lmao
@@STEELGMBL Feels like you deliberately missed my point though; I explicitly said I expect Riley to do it (& frankly the ACC is ripe for total embarrassment again, unfortunately), but IF he doesn't in year one, he's gone, that's all. If we aren't willing to keep a legacy guy with his dream job for less than half the price in spite of being a single score away from the playoff and a year into a 3-year deal, we WON'T keep a guy with no Clemson ties & an extremely low buyout clause IF he doesn't make the playoff.
It's not even a hot take is all, it's just the way Clemson nation is now, for better or worse.
@@STEELGMBL both right. If we would have beaten SC we would have gone to the playoffs most likely. You were right, we would have been exposed like we were against TN, SC and ND this year. We need a change in Clemson football. I hate that it is streeter. We were pulling for him being a Clemson alumni and football player from 96-99. Now he can go elsewhere. I agree Riley is a home run hire. I'm excited for the change. Brandon also got three million dollars in his exit. So don't feel too bad for him.
Riley was a fantastic hire at SMU. He was tremendous at TCU.
Watch this… it will be a big boy offense. No longer offensive!
Real good to see Jason again !!
A step in the right direction.
Maybe, I hope so!
What’s funny is insinuating Clemson needs “saving” 🤣🤣🤣
Right after the WV debacle
Well he fired the HFC at Florida years ago and he fired a dc
Kevin Steele was never a good DC, and Billy Napier was never a good OC
@@jarrodskufcagaming5203 nor are they now!
They got more than a year though, and they weren't literally a single play away from the playoff like Streeter, a lifelong Clemson guy.
If Riley doesn't do it in year one, he's fired, too.
@@Greydawg I don’t think he had as much pressure then and all was on the rise with growing pains. It’s a little different being on top of the mountain
@@TheHardTake still, if Clemson doesn't make the playoff this year, the more expensive guy with no Clemson ties and a cheap buyout will be replaced just as quickly.
The new office of coach was not going to make that much of a difference they plan a week conference I can see if he was going to do offense at Georgia or Alabama if Clemson will have played Georgia in the playoffs they wouldn't have blown out too if that coach would have been coaching for Clemson they would have got blown out Clemson ain't got the same team they had years ago
I have to be honest. I am ignorant and have no trust for the riley family. Wish him the best, but things I know of his brother ruined the whole family for me
He won’t in a season but changes were needed. We’ll see if the OL can be fixed as that is an ongoing deficiency.
He won't? He HAS to---if he doesn't make the playoff this year, he's fired just like Streeter, who was also on a 3-year term but got fired after 1 year in spite of being a Clemson die-hard & essentially one play away from being in the playoff.
@@Greydawg No, he won’t as the roster lacks too many pieces. If what I’ve heard is accurate, Streeter was done an injustice by Dabo, as he was out of town Recruiting. Never known for his class, Swinney the Pious will never hoist the Natty trophy again.
@@harrylegge4898 Ahhhhhh, I get it now, you're a Bulldog. Say no more. Cheers.
@@Greydawg Indeed I am but as a Fan of CFB of 60+ years, I’ve watched the rise & fall of every program. Clemson needed adjustments and time to regain its place among Elites.
@@harrylegge4898 K, I hear you, & I have nothing but respect for UGA (& had a blast at the Florida game last year), I'm only saying Clemson was a single score from the playoff this year when they were arguably "bad," & this change in staff shouldn't surprise anyone for Clemson to get that extra play, so to speak, with a susceptible league, stack of blue chips and no bye-week opponents again in 2023. In no uncertain terms (even if Clemson only gets Riley for one year), his resume certainly seems to suggest a benefit on offense outright.
With that said, Georgia's 2023 schedule is perhaps even more mismatched outright & the Dawgs have an easy path to the CFP again as well even in spite of a late game against Tennessee. Alabama, for example, won't get in y'all's way because of their schedule alone & as a result you again won't have to play them & may likely instead play a team like Clemson in the semifinals or final.
Go VOLS!
He gets one year; if he doesn't make the playoff, he's fired, we know that already.
If he's great, we might get him two years or even his full 3-year term.
We fired Streeter on a 3-year term in year one in spite of being a die-hard, all-in Clemson guy who was literally just one play away from the playoff this year (beat USC & Clemson is in the playoff). Fired him anyway. Coach Riley can likely get that extra play, but IF he doesn't make the playoff in year one, he's gone. The bar has been set, for better or worse, & his extremely low buyout clause gives Clemson the upper hand for hiring & firing, plus shows his mentality for long-term vs short-term.
Answer: yes. Clemson still has loads of talent. Jimmies and Joes win the game unless the coach sucks like Napier.
Mostly on the defense. Name the last elite offensive playmaker.
T Law in 2020?
@@foxbodyblues6709 AR, but Napier couldn't coach him. The running backs were awesome last year with a great offensive line, it's Napier that didn't take advantage. Our average player was better than every team we played except for maybe three teams.
@@notusedexer not talking about Napier
@@foxbodyblues6709 if we're taking about Clemson, I'm not as familiar with Clemson. Clemson has loads of talent. I think their new coach might get things done.
@@notusedexer as I said, most of their talent is on the defensive side.
I don’t see a 1st rd pick on the offense. Will the QB become as good as the TCU QB? Could be.
But he’s not a 1st rd pick either.
Clemson football doesn’t need saving??? It’s going to be better though!
"Saving" in the sense of making the playoff in 2023. If Coach Riley doesn't make the playoff this year, he's fired just like Streeter, who was also on a 3-year term but got fired after 1 year in spite of being a Clemson die-hard & essentially one play away from being in the playoff.
Clemson loses another 2 next season. A new OC won't stop the up and comers in the ACC. PLUS, you have Notre Dame again.
The only up and comer is Florida State and they lost to DJ Uiagalelei. They have some distance to cover to catch Clemson.
Notre Dame is at home & almost certainly after a bye-week & just as certainly without one for ND, but the bottom line is that game simply & inherently doesn't matter; a win or a loss doesn't affect Clemson's goals or destiny to the playoff outright, for better or worse.
Not a Clemson fan by any means. I actually cannot stand them. That being said this is a great hire. Dabo has not done well in losing coaches under his past philosophy. This hire is a change in his philosophy. I hope it fails miserably but I would bet on them winning the ACC. Easy FSU fans. Your time is coming.
🤣🤣🤣boooooo
Lmao free shoes time has already been 🤣
That's a really stupid question. Clemson doesn't need to be "saved". Clemson went all in on a bust quarterback and stayed with him too long. He's gone and Klubnick is better. Riley is an improvement at OC so that will help... but Clemson needing to be "saved"... ridiculous.
