Good theory, but no. She was 9 when he first crashed into her shed (she literally says 'I'm 9'). Then 12 years passes and she's 21 when the Doctor comes back and saves everyone, then she's 23 at the end of the episode when they finally go off and its revealed its the night before her wedding
Though the scene was trying to get Amy to let the Doctor go, it was all about the Doctor letting her go. Through Series 5 and 6, we get these small moments where it's clear he doesn't really see her as anyone else but the little girl whose garden he fell into. And like he said in one of the minisodes, if she sees it, he sees it. So if she sees the magical madman in a box, he is the magical madman in the box. He can carry on pretending, which is at the core of 11's character. But this scene was about letting that go; him accepting her as Amy WIlliams and not Amelia Pond was so important because he had to learn to let her go in order to confront everything else...which he was never able to fully do.
@Chris VanGogh I would also argue the opposite; that the Doctor in Series 7 was too dependant on them again after having learnt to give her up...and we know how that ended. But the Doctor got over that again, eventually, while Amy would only have once chance and she needed that yet never fully came to terms with it in this episode. And yeah, I get what you mean about the actual logistics of the name thing but it's just a handy way to reference the character in different stages. So "Amelia Pond" is how the Doctor always sees her, and even when she gets married, he refers to Rory as "Mr Pond," not because she's keeping her name or he's losing his but because he won't accept any change to her. Yeah, that's a throwaway line, but it does illustrate the point. So when he does call her Amy Williams, it's to show that he is giving her up of his own accord, because he has accepted who she is; not The Girl Who Waited, but The Woman Who Loved Rory.
David William's character is particularly great in this episode because you initially write him off as "Ha-ha, he's a cowardly comic relief character," but he isn't. He will do anything, ANYTHING, to survive. What would the kind of species that so scornfully throw away independence and self-respect do when confronted with other moral quandaries? Someone with half a backbone would never have let Howie go, but this man does not have one. He's a coward, to his core, and would do anything to prevent himself from having to deal with any kind of conflict. It's also why he didn't fall victim to it. If he had faith in anything, his people would have the confidence to govern themselves rather than turn over to invaders just to survive. It makes him an asset and a liability in this situation. It's actually an incredibly dark character that was spurred from such a comic idea - what would a character whose traits were all inherently cowardice be like? Funny sure, but terrifying all the same in how little you could trust him in a situation like this.
Him dropping off Amy isn’t just for her and Rory’s sake, it’s for him as well as he knows deep down his time is running out and he needs to go to lake silencio to get killed by the astronaut, even if he doesn’t want to accept it yet
Yep. The flaw with the Doctor's character is he keeps these people selfishly cause he's lonely, but he usually gets them heavily traumatized or killed. It's hard cause you feel for him being lonely. I think this a big moment in his character where he realizes he has to let them go. I also think The Doctor and Amy's relationship is much different then many others on this show.
Amy's was seven because she was 7 when she was waiting for the doctor Edit: "what's the alternative me standing over your grave, over your broken body and Rory's body". They just had to say it didn't they 😑😭
Megan Barrs yeah cuz the Doctor “knew what would happen, this is what always happens” and it did because he let his guard down by allowing Amy and Rory back full-time because he was alone, sad... kinda the Doctors fault but not his fault also.
24:20 - "What's the alternative? Me standing over your grave?" Yep, when Karen Gillan agreed for the first half of Season 7, that's literally what happened. The ending where the Doctor just leaves the Ponds safe and sound is much better than all this tragedy with the Angels. Karen Gillan would better not change her mind about Season 7.
Remember 11’s first episode? He tells Amy that it’s very important she understands he’s a mad man with a box and that one day her life could depend on it. I took 2 seasons for that scene to pay off ;)
12:00 oh failwhale34 not you too 😛 seriously though "praise him" was so much repeated in the episode that after I've finished the episode, it was stuck on my mind for like half an hour 😃 AIso I really wanted Rita to become a companion and I was really sad when she died.. this episode was one of the spookiest ones for me but I really love it..
The line " I wasn't talking about myself" always hits me so hard. The Minotaur saw a mirror in the doctor and made the doctor have the same realisation.
Omg watching a scary episode and your lights went out. What were you thinking at the time. If that was me I was run out the front door cuz I’d think it was a ghost. Lmao
This is actually my favourite episode (I'm not sure why exactly, I suppose I enjoy the different tone, the twist on the cowardly character and the Amy-Doctor moments) and I would have had nothing against it being the Ponds genuine exit.

Yep that everyone showing up on set to start filming I wonder if they forgot to leave the cameras off on that scene and left it in or they did it just because lol
Similar to episode 10 "The Girl Who Waited" "The God Complex" offers euthanasia as the solution to all your problems. The Doctor's becoming kind of scary/disturbing going around putting creatures out of their discribed or perceived miseries pro bono. He's also proving that through understanding alone one can kill perceived monsters or aliens sans weapon or gun.
Scott Redding In a future episode we find out it was the crack. But I like the idea better that it was the War Doctor as he says “who else?”. Or maybe The Hybrid?
He said a few of his family members had developed dementia (his father his fathers sisters his fathers mother etc) and he said if he gets it he is going to end his life because he doesn’t want his kids to see him like that. I hope he doesn’t get it. It can’t end like that.
WHAT difference does having that light on make ? Costs more. If I waste it -- YOU pay more. Helps to destroy the world and GIVE$ more 'power' ( over govts ) to the Corpserations. Save EN£RGY. Everybody's £nergy !!!
Also I think it's the next episode that is one of my favourites and also brings together old who and new who brilliantly. Yeah I'm sure it's the next episode.
In an interview Matt Smith was asked what he thought was in Eleven's room and he answered that he saw all of the previous Doctors hanging from the ceiling and a single empty noose waiting for him. Now that was Matt Smith's reply and it still gives me chills. I never knew they came back to that I must have missed it... TIME FOR A REWATCH~
I love the idea, but I don't think they pulled it off as well as other episodes were pulled off. There were some great episodes this season, and others, like this, fell very flat.
"A spooky episode? ... Yup"
*lights go out*
o.O
Perfect
I just figured-out why Amy's room number is 7. She was 7 years old when The Doctor crashed into her shed.
good theory

rory's little speech about howie is such a beautiful scene imo
"What's the alternative, me standing over your grave?"
That is some Grade A Foreshadowing.
That was very cruel of Moffat to put us through in 7x05
Has failwhale already watched S7?
She didn't die as in killed she lived then died like she would have anyway

He did fall victim to it and must have faith otherwise he would've been showed an exit door like Rory was and not the room with the weeping angels
I mean all it takes for evil to win is for good to do NOTHING.
his species showed up again in series 9 which was cool
Rita is one of my favorite one off characters. She would've been a great companion.
Agreed.

Interesting themes, indeed. For me,this is a strong and intriguing episode. Definitely a 'rewatchable' story.
the weeping angels is just one of those monsters that stay around and dont just be in 1 episode and do nothing else like most other monsters.
The Minotaur in the labyrinth done interestingly.
I really love this episode. It's a great little character study of the Doctor
