    Using the samsplint as a filter protector is one of the best ideas I have seen in a while!

      Thanks David! I’m all about finding second uses for gear, and after carrying around a filter pouch for years I just had to find a second use for a protective carrier; turns out the SAM splint works really well!

      @UltralightNerd Hope you only have to use it for lens protection!

    Dude this is AMAZING!!! Finally the stuff I’ve been looking for: lightweight practical packable solutions and not the bougie super heavy packing of non-hikers. Thank you so much for this! can’t wait to see more!!🔥

    Great video dude! Finding a convenient way to carry my gear has been a (fun) challenge, and this helped a lot. Thanks!

    Good stuff! Unless you shoot astro, fast glass for landscapes is overkill. Now try backpacking while being a landscape AND wildlife photographer. Trying to figure out how to arrange my kit with a wildlife lens and you gave me some good ideas!

      I think I just don't know what I want to focus on, as it seems I have to make a choice or carry a ton of gear. I want to take my camera hiking with me and landscape and wildlife are what I care about. Have you found a good solution for best approach to those two interests?

    I've started using Aarn Balance pockets, either on their pack or on my regular pack. That's where I stash my camera gear (and other kit). It's very accessible at the front, doesn't obscure the view of the trail at your feet and the weight is transferred to the hip belt. They are a New Zealand brand, but have a distributor in WA state.

    I make all sorts of weight reductions just to pack a Nikon d4.

    Thank you so much for your video! I’ve been searching for a way to transport my Hasselblad 500c/m with the lens and back on and the hyperlite versa is looking like quite the contender. It’s so hard to judge though just looking at dimensions online 😅

    • @UltralightNerd
      @UltralightNerd  Год назад +1

      Glad this could help! Now, the 500c has the built in lens, correct? I evaluated one last week for a possible purchase (had a ton of haze unfortunately). I’m not sure if it would fit, but next time I see one I’ll see if it works!

      @@UltralightNerd ahh sorry to hear it had haze. Keep looking though, they’re incredible cameras! Thank you so much! It’s proving hard to find something compact that will fit it given it’s square dimensions. Anything that will accommodate it’s height ends up having way too much width. My search continues 😭

    I donr know if you have a drone, but im looking for a Fanny pack to store it. I have the dji mini 3. If you have one, does it fit in it?

    This was an awesome find as someone trying to combine my two favorite hobbies into one. Have you considered the hyperlite camera pod (large version) by any chance? What are your thoughts? Thank you!

    Hey thanks! Do you use the same setup if you're hiking in below freezing temps? How do you keep yourself and your gear warm/comfortable when it's 7°F or colder?

  • @yoyomanman

    Have you considered about the Camera Pod produced also by HMG?

    • @UltralightNerd
      @UltralightNerd  Год назад +1

      For the vast majority of my gear: they need to serve two purposes. The camera pod only serves one purpose, and that is to carry a camera with a lens attached. The versa, on the other hand, can be used for not just carrying my camera gear but other gear as well. Both are great products, but I would rather take off a lens and have a much more compact carrying kit than a big holster style bag. :)

    0:31 are you based out of Seattle? is this the Talapus lake?

    • @UltralightNerd
      @UltralightNerd  Год назад +1

      I am based out of the Pacific Northwest! It’s not Talapus, but it is a lake in the Alpine Lake wilderness. This is actually heading up Asgard pass. Currently editing the video of that five day, backpacking adventure: stay tuned!

    Can you fit the lens/camera in the fanny pack with the lens on if it’s in sideways?
