I would say their crimes committed there, especially if they had a lawyer, could probably be overlooked.
Also them killing a hitman who is after them would be another instance of self defense and not murder. They really could have just gone about their business and be free, but now thats all fucked up because now they *did* actually murder their parents.

You are right that the hitman's death was self defense and not murder but how would they prove that in the court tho? because the letter that was in the hitman's car is encrypted and can't be considered solid evidence. Other than that they just have the vision, something they can't prove they have either, but it would be interesting how will the court take the case in the scenario that andrew and ashley actually prove to be able to see the future, I don't really know how would they act there

Oh, it doesn't. Many countries don't have cannibalism as a crime, generally speaking. It's just that it usually requires murder, which is a crime. So, this is a major sign, that the Your Favorite NPC is full of shit and pulling those numbers out of his ass.
Most of what he put in there, doesn't make sense. Like, they killed someone who was holding them under false pretenses and slowly starving them, with the intent of harvesting organs. ... That's not murder. ... That's self defense.
The little girl that they accidentally killed, with her death being mainly because she has an asthma attack. ... Not exactly what it was noted as in the video.

And they DID kill nina, accidentally or not (which I don't seem possible because it is common sense that no one can survive a full night locked in a box without oxygen, asthmatic or not)

I said julia instead of nina by accident LOL sorryyyy. You can clearly see in the game that nina was locked in a kind of chest, which doesn't allow oxygen to enter, or at least not the enough for any person to last one entire night (+8 hours) inside there

If I had to make a realistic guess, this is an easy insanity plea. Especially for Ashley. Andrew might have some more trouble considering he's suffering from more high functioning mental illnesses, but a good lawyer could make it work.
Also, there's no evidence in the apartment they lived in except possibly the cultist's limbs, so part one crimes are mostly off the table. Even then, if they can somehow prove extreme circumstances (the two legal options being starve or get shot), that could reduce the sentence if they get charged. Using the hitman's note, you can argue off another murder as self-defense for once. After that I honestly don't see much going in their favor, except childhood. They were children, so that's not chargeable. So the major issues would be grand theft auto, breaking and entering, credit card fraud, and two counts of murder. The only other thing I can see being fixed in that are the two counts of murder, as long as there were other people going missing and being presumed murdered. The bodies are difficult to identify you see, when they're in so many pieces. So if everything checks out then three charges. Not bad.

Technically yes, but this person was said to be hired by the government or some other high power person to rid of someone who was almost, if not blatantly, confirmed to be doing crime. So while yes, Andrew did defend himself, the government probably doesn't care and would still classify it as murder.
Plus, in the game, it's shown the government is already pretty shady and evil, so they wouldn't care if the person they were trying to kill defended themselves.

Objection, not only were they in extreme survival conditions that could forgive cannibalism, but the act itself isn’t an actual crime.
