It's a legendary quote for the ages, love to see more of this... Next week, the previous owner of this place was a bit of a ladies man... [pause]... in fact he strangled over two dozen of them right in the back yard here [smiles, walks away from camera towards mass burial ground]
Great review, as always. Thanks for that. Four eggs seemed a bit over the top. I know they were trying to make up for mushrooms. However, four eggs must have needed a bit of eating. Good price, it seems. Thanks for taking us along.
i like the jam and condiment pots for toast. It gives you the opportunity to either have the toast with the breakfast, which I do enjoy, loading foods on, or as a sweet and savoury alternative with the extras. My wife before becoming ill worked as a housekeeper for twenty years, and she would cook breakfast. I would drop her off at silly o clock in the morning because she didn't drive and as I had time before I had to be at work would take great pride in helping straighten out the pub from the night before, and set up condiment stations, butters etc on the tables for the guests booked in. One of life's pleasures when staying away from home is the full breakfast if you desire! A rare treat but tastes good when someone else cooks it!
Gary, I just love these fabulous pubs with great histories. Yes, Turpin often spent time at the Black Prince and many other pubs across the South East. As ever, a great and entertaining video and wow all those beans and half a pig on the plate too! Take care D
Nice to see it hasn't changed much in the past 25 years! We used to get a nice typical pub lunch there, if shopping in Slough during the week. Sandwiches, pies and chips were the usual, but good quality and quantity! (We lived just outside Maidenhead back then)
Hi Gary, Lovely Breakfast for 20 quid. Cannot complain. I agree that the Beans were too much.. I also agree with your summation of the Hash Browns, they didn't look right. The Toasts could have been more leaner not thick. The Eggs and Bacon looked perfect to me.
No black pudding made me cry 😢 I'm old .... 50 and remember before American hash browns there were sliced, fried, boiled potatoes from the day before, with crispy skins. My Grandad and I would rescue those not covered in gravy for this purpose 😂 fried bread is a must also .... I'm particular about a full English ... fried mushrooms, grilled tomatoes nee beans, orrible things 😂 as Somerset Maughan said to dine well in England eat breakfast three times a day.
Have to have black pudding on a full English. It's a basic requirement. I love fried bread as well so everything you're mentioning is making me hungry.

Dick Turpin’s main haunt was Epping Forrest. Up at a well know farm shop in Windsor to get the Windsor sausages and other meat, 31.10.23, bypassing the Ostrich route . All in all it looked good but over priced. 7.1.Well the Pub is just down the road from the huge Colnbrook industrial Estate near LHR, so not many white van men at the pub at £20 a nut then. Ps the name, it was a brook to cross the river Coln. I for one do like your reviews.
At first I thought that seemed expensive but when I saw all that was included it was probably enough for two people ! Loved the extra touch of the jams/honey etc., and especially marmite. I guess one thing they could have asked was if you wanted the toast with your breakfast or after so it was still hot, but I guess that’s a bit of a faff. Great review as always, thank you, I’m now hungry ! 😊
@@GaryEats yes, that was odd, but talk about egg overload 😀 that many eggs can do odd things to your ‘movements’ or so my old mum would say, probably a myth ! Same as baked beans 💨 😀
Thank you for another fantastic offering, Gary. I love the history you provided especially on Dick Turpin. My father in law is coming over from the USA for Christmas, I will take him to the Ostrich, albeit he might want some maple syrup on his bacon...
what a brilliant looking historic pub! Breakfast looked hearty and solid, but to the eye was a tad overcooked in places, so I'm glad to hear it tasted good. That bucket of beans would put me off for sure, but those poached eggs were perfect, the nicest item on the plate! A very generous amount of toast and plenty of choices to spread on it too. Given the size, a fair price to pay too. A worthy Halloween breakfast! 👻👻👻
Nice history to start this video off. Scary ! - wow that looks breakfast to errr die for ! That is HUGE, that would keep me going all day! Mmm perfect eggs for sure. [Great location if you are an aircraft spotter - right on the flight path]. Another great review, thanks !
Yes!!! A breakfast video. These and steak are my favourites. Gary is the best food reviewer in the UK. No ego or posturing. Just honest opinions of food that available to every budget. That breakfast sounds a great option. Shame no black pudding. That bacon looks perfect. I much prefer streaky. An extra sausage wouldn't have killed them. A lot of posh cafes that I have used don't do substitutions. If you don't want something they will leave it off but no alternatives. I am not a fan of hash Brown's unless they are the ones you get in the USA. I prefer saute potatoes with a breakfast. £20 where everything is included is good value in my opinion. It's an 8 from me as it makes me feel very hungry. 😁
Glad you're enjoying them. I have another Steak one coming up soon for you at a cheaper restaurant in London. I'm so appreciative of your kind comments, most certainty not the best but it means a lot that you think so Andrew and it makes me enjoy doing the videos more. Nice little assessment of the food as well - all the best mate.
I admire your health standers gary, poached eggs and brown bread, alas for me it's fried eggs and door stop white bread all the time, very fair score mate, look forward to your next video.
What great innovation to seek out a haunted pub for a Halloween food review. You really look after your subscribers Gary & the breakfast looked fantastic.
Looked amazing that brekkie, my kind of brekkie, no mushrooms, no tomatoes, poached instead of fried, lpads of bacon. Great portion. Keep up the great work 👍👍👍
Love these traditional pubs and the way the English stick to their "Full English Breakfast" with its basic layout irrevocably defined. I also enjoy the stories of haunted pubs and I really agree that the landlord and the landlady were "a bit naughty". Greetings from Berlin!
Happy Halloween, Gary! The pub looked fabulous, but the breakfast didn't look top notch, but great to have tea, orange juice and great quality bread with a choice of marmalade, Marmite, honey and butter. So an 8 out of 10 sounds fair. Great review as always, mate and keep up the fabulous work! 👌😀
Happy Halloween my friend! That's a fair comment Frank, I think it needed some black pudding and it would have been a bit better. Thanks mate and have a good rest of your evening!
I like places with history like this pub. Living in the US, I cannot offer any places with that much history. I once stayed at a B&B that was a jail back in the 1800s. One room was a converted jail cell, but the “best” part was having breakfast in the courtyard with a view of the (former) gallows location. Of course, ghosts of former prisoners were included with the stay. I slept soundly though. And the homemade breakfast was excellent too; I still think of the stuffed French toast with peaches. I am glad that the he pub besides a very interesting or naughty history also offered excellent breakfast.
The pub was lovely -the history of it was interesting too - especially for Halloween😂 - brekkie was good - eggs done well and the beans were i reckon a named brand very nice. I thought the same on the hash browns as you - not cooked as well as could be. I thought the jams with the toast very good. All told everything included and the quality i thought 20 quid ok. I am not sure about stopping the night there though with the hauntings bit spooky😂 Happy Halloween all!👻
I've always wanted to know what this pub was like, as I take the 81 now and again into Langley, which the bus passes by it! I will be going there pretty soon! Thanks, Gary!
Another top review Gary, very interesting back story surrounding the location. Breakfast looked very decent. Nice to see you over the 8k subs soon be 10 mate.
A real Halloween shocker for me reading the plaque about the history of the pub as the surname of the murdering couple, Jarman, was my mum's maiden name I sincerely hope they weren't ancestors. I have to say I've been enjoying your videos. Love these kinds of eating videos. It's a lovely vicarious experience.
Wow, I live about 1/4 mile from this place, great stuff, I love the Planes coming & going, I will visit this place. It’s just off the M4, so easy to find..and a petrol station is close too.
Brilliant story to the pub shame I live so far away. Breakfast looked good bit pricy. Been following you now for a few weeks and got to say Gary you're fast becoming my favourite food reviewer.
Just had a squiz at the map. Not surprising at the number of aircraft, the pub is almost beneath the final approach to Heathrow. Glad you managed to have a meal there, if Heathrow builds the third runway, I think it might swallow the pub.
Wow 4 poached eggs, they didn't stint on the substitution. The bacon is just how i like, streaky and overdone, perfect. I wish my poached eggs were as perfect as these. Great location, great pub, and great breakfast. Looking forward to the net vlog!
Happy Halloween, everyone. 👻 Don't know how you got through that generous amount of food, Gary. I hope the cameraman wasn't downwind of you after you scrammed down that bucket of beans. 😂 Also, yay, you're a Marmite lover. 😀
Love your thoughtful reviews Gary. 8 seems spot on for what it included but it wasn’t perfect. I’m guessing you were near Heathrow? Looking forward to the next one.
ColnBrook is 1 mile West of Heathrow Airport & the departures are on the Northern Runway when you did the Video 🙂 Looks lovely. Not that far away so will check it out at some point. Im sure I went in that place for drink in 1998.. Last time I was in Colnbrook 🙂
A solid plate of food, nicely poached eggs, well done bacon. I agree regarding the hashbrowns, they didn't look right, they need to change where thay get them from given the price of the breakfast.
Those poached eggs did look nice and I agree regarding the hash browns. Despite the eggs I didn't think it was a particularly large breakfast, still my friend would have loved the breakfast and to stay there, particularly as he doesn't believe in ghosts so hopefully would have had a shocking surprise!
Hi Gary - I personally would have been disappointed with no black pudding as it's my favourite part of a fry up, don't like mushrooms either so couldn't care less about them, but it was good to see they gave extra eggs and bacon though. You did a good job getting through all of the food and to ME, I thought it looked well edible and the score of 8 was fair and decent. Would have needed a lie down afterwards though
Mega Breakfast Indeed 👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Another firm favourite- i know I’d be made up with those poached eggs and bacon and beautiful toasted bloomer alone. Location absolutely fantastic too
Easily one of my favourite RUclips channels. Even though I live in France. And I’m a veggie. (Fall off the wagon sometimes.) Prices interest me. The mega Ostrich looks very nice I must say. A touch I really like is unbuttered toast in a rack with a range of jams & Marmite. The sausages didn’t look top quality. I guessed 8/10. Gary, you feel like an old friend. You should be on TV.
I don't quite know how it's happened or how to admit this, but I've found an upload of yours that I hadn't previously watched! Unbelievable! But, I've got a massive smile on my face that I've basically had a new upload to enjoy, which was top quality for food and content.
That was a monster breakfast in a nice looking pub. Like you i think it would have been better for them to ask what additional items you wanted given they didnt have the black pudding and you dont like mushrooms. Also, i judge a breakfast by the quality of the sausage - there is a world of difference between the catering ones and the real ones. Great review Gary and I see your subscriber count deservedly increasing. Look forward to future reviews.
A great-looking breakfast. BTW: I've not seen any fried toast on your breakfasts. That used to be a standard feature of breakfasts. They seem to have been replaced by the (healthier?) hash browns.
I’ve been there so many times. It’s definitely a scary place. The function room upstairs is unbelievably haunted, you can feel it when you walk in. Very basic breakfast, especially without the black pudding. I’d go for a 7 score.
If you and the cameraman conquered those bins of beans I don't think I'd want to be a passenger in the car with ye on the trip home. Love the reviews Gary, look forward to the uploads.
Nice Gary. Full-Monty breakfast at 10.30 am. With the Daily Telegraph. What more does a lad need? no shopping. Just move to the bar for a pint. Hats off to the Poached Egg Guy.
Great clip Gary and Mr cameraman. The pub looked clean and tidy, not sure about all those planes though. Food wise it looked fine and i think that 8 was about the right score, as far as running out of Black pudding there really is no excuse for that, you keep stock in, and should no when to re order well in advance in my opinion. I was a little disappointed at the price of £20, as given the bulk buying power there was no more than 4 to £5 of food on the table giving them a £16 profit on just one breakfast. Keep it up Gary loving these vlogs. Chris.
Loved this video Gary, I would of had the mushrooms as I really like mushrooms! Where was the black pudding though as thought you liked that-how comes you swapped that?? and many years ago, I remember when they used to do fried bread as well but don't know why they took it off the breakfast menu 🤷♂
Afternoon Gary, Pub looks really nice inside. Know you like your black pudding but I couldn't eat it. Mega bacon and beans and four eggs! wow thats a lot! Bacon looks well cooked just how I like it. I prefer streaky bacon rather than back bacon but like any type of bacon, just like bacon. Looks like you had the full tin of beans! Wondered if the breakfast was hot? You said you love Marmite I hate it! Nice to see fresh tomatoes on the plate as I hate tinned on a breakfast plate. Shame My cafe is not open now as wonder if you would give me a 10 as we had people coming back every week and every day for lunch.
Gary: The landlord and landlady were a little bit naughty in the 16th century. 😏
Me: 🤭
Gary: THEY MURDERED OVER 60 PEOPLE! 💀
Thank you for an incredible laugh you just gave me! 😀

I couldn't even all of the eggs, there were too many. The plate looked like someone wanted to start a chicken factory! Thanks Jeff!
I liked how the beans were seperated. Nothing worse than a plate swimming in beans. Very nice breakfast.
Glad you liked it Geoff.

Hello again! The cameraman had the window open the whole way home. Love marmite. Thanks!
@@GaryEats 🙊😆
Have to say breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. That roll looked absolutely sensational
It was such a good breakfast Paul
Hi Gary great review again i agree back bacon but that looked a great breakfast well done 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Craig. Hope you're well mate.
Love your thoughtful reviews Gary. 8 seems spot on for what it included but it wasn’t perfect.
I’m guessing you were near Heathrow?
Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks mate. Yes, very close to Heathrow.
Another great review, love it. Breakfast looked amazing, and plenty, as it should at that price.
I agree 💯👍
Another excellent review. The eggs looked fluffy and cooked perfectly. I personally would have kept the mushrooms and dumped the hash browns. 👍
Thanks for watching!
I'm not a fan of eggs, but they look really well cooked. I love that they gave you extra to make up for the missing items.
It was a lot of eggs Siobhan 😳 but a great pub 👌
ColnBrook is 1 mile West of Heathrow Airport & the departures are on the Northern Runway when you did the Video 🙂 Looks lovely. Not that far away so will check it out at some point. Im sure I went in that place for drink in 1998.. Last time I was in Colnbrook 🙂
Indeed. Loads of planes flying overhead!
A solid plate of food, nicely poached eggs, well done bacon. I agree regarding the hashbrowns, they didn't look right, they need to change where thay get them from given the price of the breakfast.
Spot on Matt. Thanks for watching!
Those poached eggs did look nice and I agree regarding the hash browns. Despite the eggs I didn't think it was a particularly large breakfast, still my friend would have loved the breakfast and to stay there, particularly as he doesn't believe in ghosts so hopefully would have had a shocking surprise!
Lol!!
Hi Joe. It's also mine so I was very disappointed when they told me they didn't have any. Couldn't get anymore than an 8 for that reason. Thanks mate.
Another lovely pub . Breakfast looked good have seen better but I’d give it a go. Thanks Gary.🙏🏼💙😜👏
Thanks Karen, glad you enjoyed it!
Looks great Gary, possibly trick-y to get through but it certainly looked a treat...
Haha love that Nick 😂
Mega Breakfast Indeed 👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Another firm favourite- i know I’d be made up with those poached eggs and bacon and beautiful toasted bloomer alone. Location absolutely fantastic too
Massive bit of bacon wasn't it? Thank you for your kind comments as always!
@@GaryEats bacon lover’s dream isn’t it. I’m there for it,what a treat.I am not good poaching eggs lol,so this is fantastic to me
Pro move @10:00 - stabbing the toast to get a clean knife for the butter spread 😊 Nice one Gary.
Thank you for noticing that little detail!
That's very kind Ralph, I think RUclips is the best place for me as I think I may struggle with TV
@@GaryEats My French girlfriend loves your reviews and we watch them together.
I don't quite know how it's happened or how to admit this, but I've found an upload of yours that I hadn't previously watched! Unbelievable!
But, I've got a massive smile on my face that I've basically had a new upload to enjoy, which was top quality for food and content.
lol thank you as always my friend 👍👍😂😂
@@GaryEats As always, you're very welcome. It's my pleasure, my friend.
Just love runny yolks with poached eggs ! My kind of Breakfast , BUT bring on the Mushrooms , & gotta have the Black Pudding !!!
Fair play mate. Thanks for watching!
Spot on Rob. Thank you very much mate, much appreciated!
A great-looking breakfast. BTW: I've not seen any fried toast on your breakfasts. That used to be a standard feature of breakfasts. They seem to have been replaced by the (healthier?) hash browns.
Oh yes!
I’ve been there so many times. It’s definitely a scary place. The function room upstairs is unbelievably haunted, you can feel it when you walk in.
Very basic breakfast, especially without the black pudding. I’d go for a 7 score.
Fair comment Simon!
Good but bacon seemed charred in parts where some of the fat seemed it hadn't seen a flame. Think I agree with your score. Top review as always!
Thank you Richard 😊
That was a lovely breakfast garry them eggs looked great and the toast you could have just had beans egg and toast ibet you was full
Was so full Mark. Needed a lie down afterwards!
If you and the cameraman conquered those bins of beans I don't think I'd want to be a passenger in the car with ye on the trip home. Love the reviews Gary, look forward to the uploads.
The window was open the entire way home... thanks John - glad you enjoy them!
Nice Gary. Full-Monty breakfast at 10.30 am. With the Daily Telegraph. What more does a lad need? no shopping. Just move to the bar for a pint. Hats off to the Poached Egg Guy.
Spot on Jeff.
Chris.
Hi Chris. Yep, a bit pricy but lots included. I was disappointed with the lack of black pudding and that's why I couldn't give it anymore than an 8.
That looked really good. Eggs fantastic and the bread omg. Nice job Gary
Thanks so much Mark.
Hi y Gary, how about trying some Thai food, I would like to compare,, Sa Kaeo, Thailand.
Hi Ernie. I've got a Thai place on the list in Hastings and will most likely visit before Christmas.
that bacon is spot on, needs some black pudding on that plate!
Spot on. Couldn't have said it any better.
Gary that breakfast looks lovely, and very good value for money keep eating for us.
Thank you, I will!!
Spookalicious!

Love your videos always have a smile on my face watching them
That's great to hear Bruce.
Good breakfast looked delicious, im not keen on Hash browns, what did the landlord ,s do with the bodies in those days,
I dread to know Christine. Thanks for watching!
The Best Cooked Bacon Ive Seen On Your Reviews
Glad you like it!
Loved this video Gary, I would of had the mushrooms as I really like mushrooms!
Where was the black pudding though as thought you liked that-how comes you swapped that??
and many years ago, I remember when they used to do fried bread as well but don't know why they took it off the breakfast menu 🤷♂
Thanks so much Mike. No black pudding, they didn't have it
@@GaryEats No problem mate, oh I see they didn't have it-fair enough!
I wonder why they stopped having fried bread on the breakfast menu??
Oh my god that breakfast looks amazing . I could eat that right now
Wonderful stuff. Go and get yourself a nice breakfast tomorrow!
@@GaryEats definitely having to go for breakfast now
Good score gazza 👍
Thank you very much 👍
Loving your reviews Gary. Not been a subscriber for long ( as I didn’t know how) but really loving it.
Thanks so much Chris
Afternoon Susan. It was a whole pig on my plate!
