Do all stone fruit trees fruit on second-year branches? I have three nectarines that fruited the first time this year since I planted them 8 yrs ago. We get late frost and crazy wind here in Utah desert. The poor fruiting may also be caused by my pruning the trees into an espalier candelabra due to limited space. However the shape isn't conducive to fruiting. I possibly have been pruning off fruiting buds for the sake of the shape. I'll prune excess vertical scaffolding branches off for better light and nutrient distribution. Not sure if a big pruning job will be too shocking to 9-yr-old trees. I value your input.
