Agreed. The only thing I would add is that the way people view the combine contributes to this issue as well. If I know for sure I’m going to be a lock for the nfl draft why would I risk losing money when my tape is out there. The media and these old school gms are making these kids land on these decisions. I feel like the combine is most beneficial to guys trying to move up in the draft. If you know you’re a high first round pick or you feel you’re overrated the best you can do is stay where you are or fall… that’s why I understand guys not participating.

I watched a young man tear his acl at his pro day and seconds after he couldn’t get up, a scout simply walked away to scout someone else. It’s not selfish to not work out at a meaningless combine or pro day. Warren Sapp said it best >>> “you go to the combine to lose money”
They are running and training outside of the combine, doing the exact same things. These guys don’t just sit around until they are drafted, they have to stay in shape and stay sharp, they could have an injury while working out just the same. Working out at a pro day or combine does not spike their injury risk

AD Mitchell is loved in Dawg country. We all saw him as one of our top receivers in his two seasons here, and he transferred out to stay closer to family (he’s from Texas).

Combine can hurt or help you. It’s the player choice. Also it measure between you and your peers in your group especially when teams want to look closer to your resume(stats and game tape).

I understand what people are saying about top players not participating, but i still think it should be mandatory for everyone declaring for the draft should participate. By not participating, its instilling a sense of entitlement to certain players and thats not good for anyone. If you are too worried about getting hurt at the combine, you should not be playing football at all. The combine is done is tight latex, no contact, just a workout they should be doing everyday.
I think Rick painting all of these guys as selfish doesn't make sense; if it's a job interview like he said, isn't a job interview about that person, and not the other candidates? In addition, so what if the agents are helping their clients stay healthy and paid, it's their job dude.

In the last couple of years the receiver corps of draft picks have been outstanding and phenomenal you can get a receiver anywhere in the draft

See there when Spielman was talking about Jayden Daniels he said "Just step on the scale, so we can see your weight, it won't affect your draft stock, just do what we ask you to do". That's the problem this is that I own you mentality from these teams and executives, this is a new breed of athlete, and they better get used to it. Not throwing at the combine is a smart business decision. If I am a player who is getting paid for my ability to throw the ball including accuracy. I want to do so to the WRs I’ve been training with the past 1-2 years, Pro Day. It can literally be a decision that makes or losses millions!

Rick Spielman is a former GM for a reason. He thinks Mitchell didn't have much of an impact at Georgia, and I heard him in another interview talk about how much he loved "Michael Thomas, Jr." from LSU. The guy is lazy.

I'm so glad that "Get off My lawn" EX-GM is disappointed. Look here genius they do not get paid to go to Indy for the combine. The NFL considers that a privilege. And are people so concerned with the weight issue, hire a proper nutritionist and introduce the guy to your too not strength and training coach. And most people tend to put on weight as they age genius.

To a degree I dont agree with Rick about not participating in the combine. If I was a top tier talent, I could do nothing but hurt myself by going to the combine. If I fall some picks because I didnt show up for the combine, I just fall to a little better team at worst. I would show up for the physicals and interviews, but I wouldnt do anything physical. They have 3-4 years of footage to look at.
I have a Spielman jersey when he played for the Bills, still wear it.

It's crazy how NFL and Teams can treat these kids like it's a business, but they are supposed to act loyal to the family or they're snakes. As a former college player (before NIL) and a current accountant, they should listen to their agents and maximize profit. One bad turf toe in preseason and watch them get cut. It's a business.
Combine is funny. You can run a 4.2 at combine. You can hit every WR in stride. You can catch every ball thrown to you. You can tackle every bag. But what happens when pads and helmets are on. What happens when a DB bumps you at the line of scrimmage. What happens when a DE is running at you full stride. What happens when the wind is blowing right to left at 25 MPH and the crowd is so loud you can’t hear yourself think. What happens when the object your trying to tackle stiff arms you. This is a waste. Turn the tape on and do your homework. Stop starring at men in tights.

Hey you don't participate they should expect to slide in the draft. This year the Top 5 is not a lock. Like the WRs the top 3 WR could either land in the top 5 or slide all the way down to like 20th. Teams should do their due diligence.
