- After catching a surf perch and dungeness crab in the shallows, I found a sea cave with an oceanfront view and cooked up a little fish and crab for breakfast! I seriously love the Oregon Coast!

Cøurtney B it’s dangerous if there’s high levels of mercury in the water. Other then that it’s also high in cholesterol so it not good for you to eat too much. But if you like it, there’s not much else like it.
HMM, I wouldn't be worried about cholesterol, but Hg mercury? No thanks, no Minimata disease for me. I can remember seeing the story on Minimata in the National Geographic when I was growing up. I thought the only part not recommended to eat was the 'Dead man's fingers?'

I was just thinking about this a couple days ago. I believe cartoon crabs hang around heated areas of the ocean, which gives them the underwater version of a tan.

I just discovered this tonight. What a lovely young man. So appreciative of his surroundings, the humane way of dealing with the crab and happy in what he's doing. Lovely video.
Top tip, use olive oil or similar to cook the fish, then add the butter at the end and spoon over the fish for flavour. Cooking from scratch in butter is likely to indeed burn the butter.

Once I get older I’m moving to Florida and my family is moving to Georgia. So, if I ever need anything they’re not too far away but, that’s beyond the point. But, I just realized whilst I’ll be in Florida, I can do exactly what you do just not as much traveling! So, these videos are gonna help me a lot and I’m a new subscriber of like a day or two😁! Jack Walsh the most humane way to kill it is lift up the cape and there is a small hole there then put a knife through that smashing it is god awful because it lives for a good minute after that

There’s a wedge under the carapace just about the joint of the legs where you can pull the carapace clean off and kill it instantly. Or you grab it by the legs super close to the carapace and bash the head clean off on a rock. Removes the carapace instantly in one clean go. Instant crab death. Minimal carapace damage.

Me an my family use to go crabbing we would use a fishing line an tie an piece of chicken at the end throw it in an slowly when a crab was biting bring it in an it worked we ended up getting huge nice crabs

I live in the Midwest and travel to Portland and Seattle on business twice per year. Dungeness Crab is a must for me. Also, I don’t waste time flying between Seattle and Portland. It’s too beautiful, so I typically drive.

Generally speaking, assuming no nearby communities potentially fouling the water with sewage, there'll be a smaller risk of pathogens in sea water than fresh water.
So, I've had a couple of like notifications to this comment and feel I should mention that there is an emphasis on SMALLER risk... many types of bacteria do survive in seawater. In fact, there are MORE microorganisms in an equal amount of seawater than fresh (Staphylococcus aureus, which causes skin infections, comes to mind). The number which contribute to human foodborne illness, such as Giardia, is only slightly lower than fresh and I would never want to imply that washing food in untreated seawater is "safe", it's just a bit less dangerous...provided the aforementioned sewage is not present, of course.

i used to go crabbing at the Venice Breakwater in Venice CA. As a kid. (mid 70s to mid 80s) Man! we had fun. My friends and i would catch at least 10 rock crabs each bring them home and have a great dinner. This video brought back alot of great memories.
