Wizards and Warriors starts a new animated alternative history documentary series focusing on the Mongol Invasion of Europe and asking What if the Mongols invaded Europe. In our scenario, Ogedei Khan doesn't die in 1241, which allows the Mongols to retain their unity and continue their incursions into Europe and Middle East. In 1245, the Mongols under the leadership of Batu Khan invade central Europe leading to the intense battles in medieval Bohemia. At the battle of Olomouc in 1246, the allied armies of the Holy Roman Empire attempted to stop the Mongol invasion. The defeat here didn't stop the Mongols who were now full of wrath. And although the Europeans were now preparing a Crusade, this wrath will bring them to Bohemia and the siege of Prague will make things even worse. At the same time, a group of Mongols led by Batu Khan moved south to attack Italy and sacked Rome. To the north the armies of Subotai and Kadan were invading Germany and moving towards France, leading to the battles of Lubeck and Fulda Gap against the alliance created by Emperor Wenceslaus and King of France Louis IX. The death of Louis and end of the mongol threat, allowed the king's brother Charles of Anjou to take the throne and attack Frederick II of Sicily. After receiving a mauling at the battle of Isonzo, Batu returned to the Hungarian Kingdom in summer 1249, and immediately unleashed his horsemen in a wave of reprisals, leading to the battles of Buda and Esztergom, and the eventual retreat of the Mongols from central Europe. We at Kings and Generals hope that you will enjoy this video!

Great episode, but I feel like the ending was a little rushed. The Mongols could definitely return if one of the khans prevailed, although this would be an incredibly difficult task.
It would be very interesting to look at the global consequences of the entire invasion. How will Catholicism recover from the blow it has suffered, who will be the new pope, will the pontiff's court move to Avignon or will they solemnly return to Rome. What will be the fate of Hungary and will it be swallowed up by Bohemia (let me remind you that historically the son of Wenceslas the First, Přemysl Ottokar, was Bela’s son-in-law and laid claim to the Hungarian crown, having in his hands all the power in the Holy Roman Empire or a certain part of it, he can build a very powerful state on the ruins). What will happen to the Nicene Empire, will it destroy the remnants of the Latin Empire and effectively resist the Turks. What will happen to the Mamluks who, it seems to me, in this timeline can more successfully fight the Mongols.
So many questions, so few answers.

Yeah! It was a nice wind-down to the series but an extra 5 minutes to have a more detailed breakdown of things like B's death like with Louis or other figures would have been great. Plus a new clear full map of territory changes with numbers of total losses on each side as a final summary would have been interesting, not to mention a quick summary of how long the Mongol gains lasted and if it impacted the longevity of parts of the Mongol Empire as a whole.

The War of the Provençal Sisters sees much of northern France, Poitou, England, Brittany and Burgundy support Margaret, Flanders collapse into civil war, much of southern France, Anjou, Provence, Aragon, Navarre, Toulouse and Gascony support Charles. Raymond goes from being the last count of Toulouse to being first king of Occitania. Simon de Monfort leads Gascony and other English lands in France against the English crown. Castile and Norway also get involved. No details as to in which way or which side.
HRE: Konrad of Hochstadt, archbishop of Cologne, takes a page from Venice's book and founds another branch of Christianity and a new alliance. War continues to engulf the HRE.
ERE: Venice and Nicaea go to war with each other
Rus principalities: Alexander Nevsky is elected Grand Prince of the Rus

Very good, I'd say that a new kingdom of Spain and England would probably dominate Europe even further in the following eras. With the French crown fighting a civil war and having lost so much in the Mongol invasion, they'd be far a lot weaker to opposes the rise of England and Spain in the years immediately after. The destruction of Teutonic order in eastern Europe would also have massive religious impacts, the catalyst of the Protestant reforms in Germany and Scandinavia would be removed perhaps causing the Protestant reformation to be smaller. The Danes, Norwegians and Swedes fighting besides each other may also be the foundation of some sort of Scandinavian union. All in all, everything could change.

This seems to leave England pretty much untouched. So what transpires all of this mess is probably Hanglo-centric with England meddling in Frech affairs and Scandinvia in relatively good shipe gaining influence in Germany and the rest of the Empire. There is no Hundred Years' War and maybe the English Monarch on the French trhone by 1400. The next face-off, beginning in the 14th Century is the Anglo-Danish rivalry with Sweden supporting the Anglo-French cause
Over this time, Eastern Europe and the Mongols are picking up the pieces and cobbling together what they can. However, the Ottomans are on the rise, presenting a problem for both as the 14th century wends its way to the 15th
Marco Polo does not make the trip to China. The fall of Rome and the unreplaced Papacy is not there to obstruct the trend to print the Bible in the Vernacular, so there is no Hussite rebellion. Also the Church, deprived of Rome, both as a central headquarters and a mythical tie to antiquity, now governs itself via the synod like the Orthodox Christians. the Avignon Papacy, called "the Babylonian Captivity", does not occur given this arrangement and France being tied to England. All Crusades in the East kind of fall apart
Eastern Europe, Italy and Germany are plauged by famine and disease with an outbreak of the Back Death and several smalpox mini-plagues, which, in the early to the late middle 14th century decimate the population of Europe. The beginning of the Little Ice Age also causes the Mongols to suffer, not being as vital as they were in our world, famine and disease ravage them and they no longer are up to the task of Empire since they cannot find sufficient grazing land for their animals on the Steppe

However as they change, they become less deadly. The "shrunken world [relatively cheap and quick intercontinental traveil]" is making the medial community paranoid. What's not talked about, and I know it's a wild card alternative history, but hear me out. The Mongolians were adapted to surviving in desert like climates, so what if they beat the mamlukes and spread out into the African continent? I know it's out there, but I think it'd be interesting to learn about the Mali empire or ethiopians fighting back the Mongols.

After waiting an entire year for this- I dare say- The journey has been satisfying thus far for the Alternative History series. Hope to see at least a final epilogue of the alternative Mongol invasion story (but ofc that can wait another time and give plenty of time for us fans to imagine how the end would look like based on the end of the documentary)
Alternative Histories I Wouldn't Mind Seeing:
    1. What if Goguryeo successfully unifed Korea during Korea's Three Kingdoms period?
    2. What if Alexander the Great didn't die in Babylon?
    3. What if the Bronze Age Collapse never occurred?
    4. What if Saladin attempted to conquer Constantinople after seizing Jerusalem?
    5. What if the Aztecs expanded rapidly into North and South Americas before the arrival of Europeans?
    6. What if Mansa Musa decided to expand the Mali Empire into North or Central Africa?
    7. What if the Mughals were successful in expelling the British?
    8. What if Majapahit began to colonize Australia?
    9. What if Han Xin betrayed Liu Bang during the Chu-Han Contention?
    10. What if Napoleon didn't declare war on Russia but on the Ottoman Empire instead?
Can't wait for the next installment of the Alternative History series!

Imagine what it must have been like in the east in this timeline, with all the invasion's by the Mongols and them destroying villages and cities it must have felt like the end of the world for the average peasant. Also by far my favorite part of this was when the Vikings(i know there not actual Vikings, I'm just saying that because i don't remember who they actually we're) came and helpd that one city. This entire video felt like the plot for some grand medieval tv series so it was joy listening to this.

GBH, I don't see Subutai dying during the Northern campaign but rather during the retreat. Knowing him, he would've retreated once the northmen arrived. I'm also disappointed that early flame throwers (the Mongols did used them during the first campaign) didn't made an appearance as well as firelances given the fact that the Mongols at this time knew about European knights.

This was great. I didn't think the Mongols could completely win, but I am glad they didn't fully lose either. Europe would not forget what happened and the structure it once happened has fallen. What new powers will rise from the ashes? Although the restored Roman Empire failed I can see the ones who joined trying to pull the same idea on a smaller scale. Building power in their area before spreading. I am sad that we didn't touch more on the Jews that were saved by the Mongols.
The Holy Roman Empire lasting doesn't seem likely or if it does the lands would move out of Germany and move more towards France and Italy.
New local lords in Germany would rise all over and with the New HRE's Emperor focusing elsewhere many would try and take power for themselves. Maybe even try to become King of Germany and either leave the HRE or take over it.
Italy is a hot mess right now. Do they follow the HRE still, what about trying to restore Rome, Venice tried to bring back the true Roman Empire, didn't some lords help the Mongols? I can't wait to see who comes into power there.

What really changed here is the unification of Germany will happened a lot sooner and it will happened either under the House of Habsburg or the House of Premysl. So it might led to the scenario similar to the Austro-Prussian War that happened centuries later in our world eventually but with Bohemia in place of Prussia. Either that or both royal houses competed with each other about spreading their influences and acquiring the other German states as allies or territories as many as possible. And this rivalry between Bohemia and Austria may grow heated when it comes to the marriage of the only daughter of Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy centuries later because both sides wanted to acquire her hands in marriage for their own political interests. And if the royal house of Bohemia is the one who won this, it means there will be no King Charles I of Spain. And during this unification process, those proto-Protestant movements from our world will penetrated the societies across Europe, particularly in France because in such an environment torn by civil war, the Cathars and the Waldesians preached their beliefs to peoples across France with impunity while what left of the Catholic Church is doing their best to salvage what left of its authority and regroup at Avignon. As a result, France will become the center of the Protestant Reformation in this timeline instead. In Eastern Meditarrenean, the decline of the Republic of Venice means the reemerged Roman Empire centered at Constantinople can retake the Crete back easily. And due to that Western Europe was still recovering from the attacks by the Mongols and the Black Death, the Roman Empire looked for Turan of Emir Timur for an alliance against the Ottoman Empire by sending envoys to Samarkand.
With Genoa being more powerful in this timeline, it will most likely entered into an alliance with the Emirate of Granada in order to secure the goods from sub-Saharan trade route and to challenge the Kingdom of Aragon for the control of Sardinia. This also means that the discovery of the New World by a certain explorer from Genoa may still happened in this timeline but since Genoa is economically more powerful in this timeline, Christopher Columbus has no need of the financial backing of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella at all. And due to Genoa is being more prosperous economically and the possible cultural exchange with Granada here, the Renaissance might began in Genoa instead of Florence.

      @cubefreak123 Месяц назад

I’m pretty sure any historical figures from 1250 and on are not likely to exist anymore. It’s even doubtful the Renaissance would happen (or at least not for some time) with the sheer amount of destruction here in lives, cities, artifacts, and writings. Not to mention the total collapse of trade and likely oncoming famine and disease outbreaks.

It is great ! But , you seriously underrated mongols. Even before the invasion Subutai made a plan which include every detail about western and eastern europe. Its lakes , rivers , mountains , whole geographical situation + diplomatic relations between countries and principialities. It is written that Subutai planned an invasion which will complete within 18 years and presentedbit to Batu. They used guerilla warfare , chemical warfare and very effective intelligence warfare. So I think a war machine which invaded whole China , could easily smashed Europe )

It'd be fascinating to see how Nicea would perform. Venice looks preoccupied and most of its other neighbors are heavily damaged with polities next to them which the Romans could exploit diplomatically. Constantinople and much of Bulgaria might well be in reach of liberation, and the sheer chaos which would consume so much of Europe and notably the Balkans could give the empire a chance to consolidate and rebuild.

The Inca would fail for the same reason everybody else also ended up failing: once Europe effectively controlled the oceans, anyone with any sizable amount of wealth was going to be attacked until they lost.
Spain might have been less powerful in the end, of course, but some mercenary king would still end up partnered with some major power, and population/exposure to the sea means that power would probably have been a Catholic one regardless.

    • @jamesbaxter5147
      @jamesbaxter5147 Месяц назад

      In an alternate world…
An Assassins Creed game takes place during final stages of this invasion. You sail the Adriatic Sea on Venetian Ships, singing Catholic Hymns in solace for Rome. You fight remnants of the Mongol Army hiding in the wilderness, & assassinate key Italian Figures in a Machiavellian bid to unite the Italian City-States against the Mongol Horde. At the end of the game, you fight in a proper battle, a clash of East & West, & secure the independence of European Civilization.
The Assassins are once again made aware of the Templars, who are revealed to have started all of this. The Templars contacted The Mongol Horde to retrieve The Codex, & negotiated its acquisition… in exchange for aiding in the Invasion of Western Europe. Though the Codex was lost in the Chaos, Animus memories let our modern-day Assassins retrieve it, or rather what’s left of it.
Not to mention all the other wacky things that changed!!! Perhaps the USA‘s revolution (led by different people), fails, as France is permanently weaker than England & can’t turn the tides of the War. Our false-protagonist, Haytham, is actually revealed to have won, securing the dependence of North America on the Crown (but failing to secure the Artifact…). Or, perhaps Spain takes France’s place, & the USA is *larger*, encompassing everything North of the Rio Grande. All the while, Connor is more successful in smoothing things between the Native Americans to aid in the now-feasible conquest of Canada, & the USA has a much larger & more prominent Native population.

Yeah you know I think it would probably be ironic that they would think less of the boy king Steven; who I bet by the time he grows up would prove to be against all odds, the redemption of Europe as a military genius. You shouldve explained that a bit more in detail my friends. 😎 I mean, skilled military tactician and strategist as well as a shrewd spokesman and politician, all thanks to his exposure to the Mongol ways in dealing things (and that as a consequence, years later, when he becomes king as a full grown man, if he lives that long that is), makes Hungary the military might of Europe and successfully leads a much more successful crusade against the sultanates in the Near East, and retake Jerusalem. How about that, huh? 😏🤓
