Awesome video! We were so lucky to get a result this game. Really wondering why these players are so inconsistent when it comes to focus and organization?
People domt like it when Mainoo is mentioned or said to be poor. Amorim said the media implies Mainoo is a finished product but he isnt! He still has a lot to learn. Mainoo is very good in tight spaces and can handle the ball. But he is slow and doesnt gjve long passes nor line breaking passes. I dont agree that he is a number 6 or even 8. His attacking instincts are good he is a number 10, he can score goals and operate in tight spaces with Amad he is very dangerous in the attack, he can go past players. While it is possible for him to adapt the 8 and 6 profile, we would have profiled him wrongly. He likes to hold on to ball and dribble which is not the best for a no 6 who is meant to be coordinating the back line and distributing the ball. I fhink he played as a winger or an attacker at the early stages of his career if i am correct
@@tersooachiatar5499 all good points. In this system he is a 10. And yes, he played in attacking positions in the youth teams. 10, and out wide. Probably did play in midfield also but used as an attacker also. Cheers
It's a English thing.... I have come to sadly accept it.... The standards are not the same for mainoo and garnacho. Was never the same for shaw as it was for martial. Even mason mount and bruno are not judged same. Ppl would sell bruno after a bad performance but leave an injury underperforming mason mount. Maguire and casemiro is still not same (we are okay with giving one a contract when the two should be out) So it's an English thing... Sorry to say
Great analysis. I was extremely worried watching us failing to beat the press during the Southampton game. I'm not sure what tactical tweak Amorim needs to remedy this? Longer term, it's clear we need legit ball carriers at WB in order to consistently progress up the pitch.
I would say it’s getting the players to be more robust and improve holding onto the ball despite pressure. Getting ball carriers at WBs is one way, but also better hold up play from the striker. Midfielders could also move to collect the ball or rotate just to mess up the man to man press
CBs needing to be tight and press those channel players was something i noticed since the Liverpool match as well.Amorim's system success majorly depends on the timing of those CBs closing those players dropping into those zones.
Exactly seems our center backs cannot read the game properly and know when to step out or they're scared of the unknown which is quite funny. In this video, it was very easy to see where Southampton were going to put the ball funnily, our CBs were more interested in maintaining the 5 at the back shape
You wanna know why the players are inconsistent? You have a front line up of Hojlund. Garnacho, Bruno... all of those who are VERY poor on the ball and constantly lose it. If that's your attacking line you will keep losing the ball and constantly playing on the back foot, defenders working more than the attackers. We dont keep the ball. Add Mainoo to that hut for different reasons. He is a Attacking Midfielder that is used to one touch football and is being played in the midfield where he looks.cluesles. Bare in mind he is fresh out of the academt where he played as a winger, striker, attacking mid. So he is learning the position and struggling. The ONLY player compitent is Amad and When Zirkzee comes on that when you see the ball stick. These player are morr suited for counter where theres more need for pace and power and quick transition not systematically breaking down teams. So when teams sit back... long I party blame amorim for his selection, why keep picking players like Hojlunf but mostly blame United. We let players like Sancho go who would have absolutely thrived in this formation. And have used the transfer market badly. So you're looking at the defence but the question is as the better team why are we not holding the ball and instead being on the backfoot?
@@JackTheStrippa If a team can't defend competantly in all facets, open play and set pieces, they are never going to be competitive. The basics are what we have been failing at for years. Cheers

Top video as always. I think when we add fatigue in there too there's even more chance of laziness and hiding. This brighton game could be ugly with a very similar team starting. Zirkzee looked better than Hojlund and deserves a start I think
@@TD..... I have to be honest, not buying the fatigue thing. Not to the extent that bottom of the league with 6 points comes to OT and dominates like that. Just my opinion. Cheers
I remember pointing out the same while watching the match, the stoppers (that's how we call the side center backs in a back 3 in Argentina here) were always freed so they'd pass to the wingbacks and then the whole team gets pressed against the sideline. The inside 10s have to step up in that one and drop out into the middle in a drilled rotation (Mainoo makes a run to the left central channel, Ugarte drops to position Mainoo was and Bruno has to occupy Ugarte's position, kinda like the way Liverpool does with the mid 3) to create numerical superiority or at least a decompressing option through the middle that pushes Southampton back. All of this has to happen while the 9 makes a run in behind on the channel the ball is to stretch the opposition but I know Hojlund's position play is horrible so this only happened when Zirkzee was in place. There's several solutions to this team in particular, players need to drill around the pitch better instead of getting lost though... they aren't up to task for it yet. Also Mainoo needs to played as a 10, he's not fresh as a double 6 and barely has the legs to recover the ball, Collyer was much more better in terms of stamina and recovering the ball back.
Excellent video mate. Top analysis. What's the answer? I'm lost. Thought Amorim was the man and still think he could be but your weaknesses get exploited in the prem like no other league. He needs to constantly adapt but the squad is so ill suited to his formation. Massive amount of work to do on that squad.

Perfect analysis the solution to that i guess is for martinez or yoro to go back to onana, who can then pick the three players left uptop one on one, like the coach mentioned in his press conference.
i think one of the reason we were bad in defense and offense is because dalot did not play. This meant amad and mazraoui had to play in different position and we can clearly see that amad is not good as a wing back as he is not good defensively so yoro had no support at marking kamaldeen.Going offensely as amad was not playing center that is why we could not get the best offensive chances .The moment everything changed is when antohny was came on the pitch .this meant amad went up more times as antonhy took care of amad's job as wb.So the moral of story is amad should play only in the center alongside zirkzee and drop bruno into the midfield alongside urgarte.
I don't know that Southampton was a mentality problem. De Ligt has been getting very good at RCB with Maguire in the center but he is still learning to play the CB in Amorim's back 3. Yes he was out of position but he fought hard and had a good game. Yoro has shown potential this season but he is still learning too. The midfield was wore out and we were much better after Collyer came on with fresh legs and manager instructions. Also our wingers are struggling to adjust to Amorim's inside forward position and of course Hojlund was not holding the ball properly - but I don't think it was a lack of effort from the team. We need some specific player profiles added to fit this system and we need more depth.

Someone has to drop in from midfield or attack to provide a passing option for the wing backs. The Amorim press is such that many players can drop deep and receive the ball in their own half opening spaces behind if the defenders press them. This creates space in behind for direct through pass and also opens up more passing lanes. Many teams even City and Arsenal get pressed to the point of going long in particular moments. Amorim's structure allows you 3 options to play out from the back. 1. Passing short passes in the 1st phase to beat the press 2. Going direct into midfield with mid range passes to the 10s or midfielders 3. Going long to the striker as an outlet. Some teams like Arsenal hate to go long they always prefer the 1st option and use the 2nd on few occasions. Amorim needs to have a starting 11 at some point. It is difficult because of the number of matches we have to play but consistency comes with having a starting 11 or at least the 3 defenders and midfielders. they are the ones with the responsibility to press in most cases and they are not comfortable doing that. what position did Ericson play when he came on?
