Wow what a shame for the guy lucky it didn’t do any damage eh😓, could have been expensive, typical though!so meany of these rip off copied tools on the market along with all the car parts that a Certain county (trying to be PC 😉) copies using garbage materials like the spark plugs and injectors to name a few! People think there getting a bargain but all they’re getting is a potential head ache! Better to pay the extra 💷💷💷 for peace of mind, great work again guys! Ps I don’t mind the premier thumb nail keeps you interested 👍🏼
I'm proud to say that I did this exact DIY job myself on a Focus ST225 successfully without any timing tools. However, I came across something strange. The exhaust cam sprocket was 120 degrees off (according to the markings) . The car has had top end work done in the past but timing was still correct Always has puzzled me.
Worth noting that on occasions these engines were miss timed from factory, as in my case. Had mine from new, had blockmod done at Dreamscience, put it back together and wouldn't time- kept jumping a tooth at the crank. Turned out one of the cam bolts? (whatever the timing tool sits into) had never been seated correctly and was showing wear/damage. Eventually they got it to seat and time. Ford had to of done something to prevent any faults, but no one knew what.
He successfully completed the work; it was the tool that let him down. The planning and the work was on point: the tool on the other hand was not. The Owner knew this from the outset but sometimes there is no turning back! Thanks for watching and for the comment. We hope you continue to enjoy the content 🙏
Talk about rubbing salt into my wounds lol. I find myself in exactly the same situation as your customer. I was let down by a crap cam locking tool off eBay. Car appeared to run fine but got two errors come on with engine warning light. Got it booked in at dealers to sort (ouch). Wish I was closer to use you guys, harsh lesson learned I guess ☹️
But if you’d had the genuine tool; things may have been different. It’s a hard lesson but proves it’s not just skill that’s required; the right tools help also! Thanks for the comment and hope the bill is a small one 🤞
Do believe we have covered this in another video, however it’s an old one and part of a series. So perhaps we revisit this in a future video. Thanks for watching and for the feedback 🙏
Agreed; these seem to go down much better. We are trying to find a balance for sure. Thanks for taking the time to comment and providing some feedback 💙
great video as always Darren. I’ll have a go at most things myself but this I wouldn’t even think about doing leave the cam belt change to the experts to much to damage and pay for if it goes wrong
Would like to see and hear the first start up after you’ve done work, I just personally think it’s satisfying that something works after having it in bits.
Maybe little videos on the best way to get the trigger wheels torx bolts out as know so many people rounded them off. And maybe show the best way to get the crank pully main nut off and how to lock the engine for removal for people who haven't got impact guns ect and just basic tools 👍👍 cheers guys keep up the great videos
I bought the kit but decided not to use it, so I just went goodd old paint pen and gaffer tape when doing my belt kit..... No need to replace seals on this occasion 😉👌
Got this problem with my car at moment but find it hard to find a shop that take the job on last place went to try rip me off try make out my liner are crack when my car recently went throw having block mod done and no smoke out the back
I have a Mondeo 2.5T (basically same engine) that I bought some months ago, second hand. The previous owner did the timing belt by himself, with no locking tools. The car idles ok but there is definitely some hesitation at around 2000 rpm and also until engine warms up. Boost solenoid, spark plugs,MAP and MAF replaced. No error codes shown but I did the compliance test with Torque App and it shows some misfires from time to time, all cylinders. Should I suspect timing even if there are no codes stored?
When having CVT sprockets markings aligned (so the crankshaft marking on the timing belt side and they all fit well installed timing belt teeth) do camshafts on the sensors side always get to 0° position when engine turns off so their positions should remain parallel?
Maybe it is just me but I crafted an accurate wooden timing tool and. did the job myself....and it worked...so dont get me wrong but maybe it was not just the knockoff tool alone..I assume that something might have been overlooked or messed up by the owner.. at least it did not cost an engine..
Great video ..but have an issue with my st225..it does not start but cranks ..only starts when I pull out and back the battery terminal ..what might be the cause
Fair play to the owner, seem he got unlucky. Just curious what his symptoms where originally, I get that same fault code intermittently and boost falls off at 3k only to come back on at exactly 4k, could this potentially be it ?
Darren, Ive heard that when you do get it wrong, you can get a variety of error codes thrown up accompanied by the EML on, im seeing errors P0075 and P0078 when I run the bluefin diags.....
Today I sussed out what caused those error codes, the two wires that connect to what looks like sensors at the cam wheels end were not connected🤦♂️ my fault entirely, timing should be easily fixed, suspect it’s a tooth out.
@@BDPerformanceWrexham Thanks for the info. I have been known to 'adjust' crap tools to do an acceptable job such as awful out of the box brake pipe flaring tool, hydraulic press upgrade using H bar and various other things because, well I'm tight as a duck's .........beak. Seems like the honourable Huangshin alignment tool is not for fettling, and should be left on Ebay where it belongs. 😂😂😂 Tell you what tho, they do a really good wheel bearing removal / fitting tool !!
Equally as involved sir - we would certainly recommend sourcing genuine tools and only attempting if you have experience. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙌
@@BDPerformanceWrexham thanks for making great content, maybe you can do a how to on replacing the chain? I guess it’s pretty similar, except I need to replace the guides to right 🙈 my old rs2000 4x4 was chain driven I did manage that one on that I remember using a flat bar to lock the rear of the cams do you think a ecoboost is similar??
Need to take my st apart and fix a oil leak and new power steering pipes and get the drivers side painted been using it as a van building a sprinter lwb camper lol
Hi I've just rebuilt a ford 2.5 engine . Do u think I have got my timing wrong as the car was running fine for a couple of miles and then parked it up over a few days and now started it up and miss firing and blowing blue smoke out of exhaust and stinks of petrol . I got fault code p0016 come up .

Great vid and fair play to the guy for having a go. Getting stuck in, having a lash and dealing with problems is becoming a lost art.
Well done and fair play to being fair with the customer. Respect given
Thank you 🙏

Very odd - that’s a new one!
Can u do an exhaust manifold gasket change tutorial?

If it’s not timed correctly can it cause it to judder on stand still
Vibration through the seat and a cam/crank correlation error usually
@@BDPerformanceWrexham cam/crank sensor ie engine light came on it judders on stand still any suggestions how to fix I’ve changed the sensors

So where would you recommend getting the camlock tool from to make sure its a genuine item that will do the job properly?
will timing also be the cause of the revs limiting when putting load on/boost before or by 4000rpm?
My dad had his timing belt replaced by fords. He got it back and was running lumpy. Timing was out also. Doh 🤦♂️
Fantastic video 😁👍
Where can you buy a legit locking tool kit ??
Will like to see the way the cams are standing at the back if the tools is remove
Great vid as always i think Al was listing to sexual healing on his air buds looking at that engine lmao
😂🙌😂

Hi lads, would you be able to 'calibrate' a cheaper tool using the Ford one as a reference? ie, fettle it to get it the same.
I think it’s the quality more than anything and for the effort we don’t think it would be worthwhile in honesty.
Sorry for the negative reply sir

Mabye 02 sensor on downpipe faulty i rebuilt mine it was chewing fuel replaced downpipe 02 sensor now no problems
How did he get away with no valve damage 😳
VVT
would it damage the engine if the car had been driven for a while with the coallition error ? say nearly a year
Unlikely to have but nevertheless still not correct, nor healthy in terms of general running health
Where do you get the tool from cheers
