appreciate that there was no talk of money or value of paintings, something nice about appreciating the art without for what it is. a visual message, even if i have no idea what on earth the message is. :)

the message is that cuteness is a type of defense mechanism. Its appeal is that it yearns for guidance, like a child. one should always be wary of things that are cute. especially when they spend evolutionary energy to stay cute. cuteness is a temporary state by nature, things can't stay cute for more than a small while. kids are 'cute', meaning they have neotonized features (big eyes, small nose, etc…) it's a transitory state of growth. a short chapter in the story of life. If creatures or societies overspend time being in this chapter, they will slowly mutate in to what you see murakami creating. In a larger sense, japan is overstaying it's welcome in the land of cute. cute is not adulthood. cute can't answer questions of civic duty or morality or politics that japanese society is trying to answer in the sea of globalization. great work Murakami! xx

it’s the same as any other fashion genre, you move on to sexy or sophisticated, and then jump back if you have to in order to rebalance
