Omg!! What a flashback! Can’t believe these videos are so long ago. I remember getting home from work everyday and watching you guys while I ate. It was the highlight of my day.
Kyle, This video is a couple of years old but I thank you for sharing it with us. You have a great attitude. There are rules for a reason. You are amazingly mature and handle things as a adult should. Fun can be had without being an idiot. Yes, I served as well. Briefly Japan on the way to South Korea. I wasn't a screw up and self discipline has served me well. God bless you in your travels.
Hey, Kyle....greetings from Cedar Falls. When I was on Oki from March '81-November '82, the exchange rate was 265 yen/dollar, and things were way cheap off base...plus they LOVED the dollar off-base. I miss the off-base food and the 10-dollar military hops.
Dude, I've been loving these videos. I was in Oki from 1992 - 1996. Had just gotten married and we lived off base just outside of Gate 5. Crew Chief on F-15 in the 12th TFS (78-469). Last year, I worked at the MOC.
I grew up in Okinawa and live in the U.S. now. I really enjoyed your video. Your explanation about location of Okinawa made me laugh. You nailed it. :)
jajajajajaj like OMG they have starbucks everywhere!! i love it. really enjoy your daily blogs, it has put a different aspect about the military because i thought it was gonna be hard going after my life goals but there actually doable ... thank you !!
Thanks for all the videos! Ill be going to basic this year and have been watching your videos. They are extremely helpful and easy to pay attention to. Had no idea until this one that you can ride a unicycle! I do too and have a friend stationed in Alaska who does. Keep up what you do!
The only place to go to see uni-cycling tricks and learning about life in Okinawa! Keep up the great work man. I totally agree with your point that society today is about wanting everything now and not taking responsibility for our actions.
@vipah Yeah, at least the Listerine brand does. I am pretty sure all mouth wash has some kind of alcohol in it because that is the best ingredient in killing bacteria.
Kyle you are certainly a fine young man. Watching your videos you always conduct yourself in a very proper manner.I was in The Air Force in 1971. I hope you and your girlfriend can continue a good relationship. It was hard enough for me just being 300 miles from home. Best of luck in your career.
I was there from 1975-1976 18 months, survived a bunch of Typhoons. Traveled to the Philippines with the KC 135. Worked on the boom IFR. Spent 2 months in Australia.
I absolutely love this video Kyle. My son should be leaving for the Air Force at the end of April 2019, I’m excited and nervous for him at the same time. Your videos are awesome just like you hun
I arrived on Okinawa in June 15th 1971, I was 18 years old, turned 19 in August, spent the next year and a half on the island....went TDY to Taegu South Korea for 2 weeks in October 1971 and TDY to Pleiku air base South Vietnam for 68. days from September 72 to Thanksgiving day 72 then returned to Okinawa and returned to the U. S. On 10 December 72 went on to finish my air force stint at Bergstrom AFB Austin Texas 1973 and August 1974. While on Okinawa, I was stationed at Yoza Dake Air Force station at the southern end of the island....had a great time there....I'm now 70 years old....where has the time gone!!!
Wow! It's been almost 7 years now since I've moved from Okinawa, Kadena specifically, and everything is almost exactly how I remember it, with a few changes here and there. Hopefully one day I can go back. I loved it there.
no not really, it gets like 53 degrees during the winter and 80 in the summer honestly the winter was boring we couldn't go to the beach. We really just had to go other places or stay inside.
@@billrobertjoe, that's weird a fellow marine surfed year round when I was there. I dont recall ever being that cold there. however 53 to me is warm for paddle boarding in Oregon.
For those who aren't attached to the bases any more and looking to get a real Japanese driver's license - it's tough. You will be expected to drive though a closed course and the person evaluating you will not tell you when to turn the blinker on. Turning your blinker on too late and not pumping your brake 3 times during turns will cause you to fail. You absolutely must take the driving test training course where they teach you the route and what the test proctors are looking for. The guys at the DMV will even ask you if you've take driving lessons off base and that affects your chances of passing.
Hey Kyle, Now I have been living in Japan on and off for over 30 years. California dude. Been to Okinawa 2 times. Like your vid. honesty, don't want to see you lost in some war somewhere. Hope you're alright now. Brian
Thanks for that respect towards cops it was refreshing. I'm in dep for security forces. Love your videos they're helpful annnd keep me excited to join :)
Damn, Yen rate sucks. When I was there in 85/86 it was about 480 when we got there. It was around 405 when I left the Island. Driving was fun. My dad was the one that gave out driver license.
Dude thank you for saying that about the mentality of blaming the police when you get pulled over! I always hear people say that or he didn't have to give me a ticket and it is so annoying how people do not own up to their actions.
@14:08 Is where he starts illustrating the american fastfood chains in Okinawa. Before that, well, he talked about some things unrelated to the title. Your welcome.
Very cool video, good to see that Americans there are respectful and (try) to not get into trouble, but this is mostly my experience when meeting US soldiers abroad anyway. Going to go to Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) from next summer. Can't wait. By the way, if you have some spare time, you may want to take a tour of that place. Admission is free (I am guessing there's no reason for US troops to be restricted access, but you may want to ask), faculty extremely friendly and the science is world class.
I was stationed at Camp Foster from June 1987 to May 1988 and I don't recall ever having a curfew the whole time I was there ? The only people with curfews were the screwups ! Is this curfew restricted only to Airmen or does include everybody ?
hey man great video again and thanks man for posting these videos all of them i need them lol i wanna join its just im over wheight for my height but im still a rising junior in high school anyways thanks man
Be sure to get Yen when you can...if a place takes both, its usually equal...so if a store takes 2000 yen, thats less than $20, but they wont convert. and you ll be stuck giving them $20
Kyle you don't look right without Makenna LOL...anyway I wish I had found your vlog before you left Kadena so I could have asked you to take a video of Kadena elementary where I went to school...a long time ago.
lol wow. im gonna start taking selfies with foreign restaurant employees too. btw, are you still allowed to simply eat at pubs and not drink while you are in the airforce? i heard of this really cool pub in Japan i want to check out.

Hey Kyle thanks for making all These videos they are helpful and helped me see what life was like in the Air Force. I'm actually enlisting I just need to swear in. I heard right now the Air Force is only accepting pjs right now do you know if this is true? Also what jobs are open for people who are colorblind?
I enjoyed your Video I was Stationed at Kadena Twice 78-81 and 83-87 They had McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and a A&W Root beer Off base when I was there. There was no Curfew and we could go to the bars and clubs downtown. Did they closed down BC Street bars for americans?

Curfew, I didnt have curfew as a US Marine stationed in MCAS Futenma. My clubbing days would have been null. The US navy also had curfew when I was there ages ago. Surprise the Air Force has curfew.
i feel like a huge delinquent now. i used to live in okinawa but as a dependent (my father was in the military). i drank at bars, didn't have a curfew and didn't get in trouble for any of it and i was only 17. to be honest i don't think the same rules apply to dependents as they do to active duty. then again this was back in '96

Thank god you joined the Air Force. If you joined the Marines, you would be riding the "Green Line" from base to base w/ your battle buddy
Same with the Army
Dammit!)
I met you in Okinawa lol
.03 is the alcohol limit in Japan! Kyle never use mouth wash and drive at the same time.
lol really mouthwash has alcohol?

I lived there in 70s when I was a kid we lived off the base was surely a experience
I just kept staring at the traffic wondering why all of the cars were so box-shaped.
