Pretty crazy how clean the streets look
The elders walk the streets every morning to pick up trash it’s actually quite nice I might join them
Yes definitely like Canada it's sad a country the richest but harmble transportation systems the streets pot hole's so much politics
The beach’s can get dirty though which illustrates the pacific garbage patch IMO. Makes me sad
America is generally clean like this.
Peaceful Music yeah I wish
Grandfather just retired out of the Marines as a SgtMaj and I remember when i was younger when he was stationed in Japan. My family would come visit him and it was always an amazing experience. In total i think i lived around 3 years there, plan on joining the Marines in a couple months and become a better me.
I hope your Marine experience has gone well
I'm half Okinawan. My mom is from there. She came to the US after meeting my dad, who was stationed @Kadena.
I luv watching videos like these. Makes me sad that I am not there again. Last time I was there was in 2009.
Thank you for being respectful of their island. They appreciate all of you soldiers. Eat a lot of Okinawan Soba for me!! Good luck & God Bless!! And thank u for your service.
Back in 1981 I was with VMA-223 and had a 30 day deployment at Kadena had a great time.
I have a least a half a dozen kids still over there.
Japan was a cool place to be stationed. Was at Camp Butler. Semper fi.
Camp Foster, 85-87
Camp Chinen 1965-1971.
Headed that way, pretty excited. Semper fi.
@@WayneHarris same here I was at camp foster 13 50 d
@@Ken-vv2el This is where my barracks were: 26.304528347931647, 127.76896065827738
Was stationed at Camp Courtney. One advice I can recommend is Get your Scuba diving license. the Reefs out their are amazing. you will not see anything like that back in the US. also on your downtime check out the Churaumi aquarium really nice place for the whole family to visit. and its free for active marines.
I will agree with the above comment.... I got my dive master cert out in oki.... great place to dive. Usmc.
With all the pollution these days, those reefs won’t be there for long so he better hurry! Have you seen all these massive die-offs happening to marine life? It’s really getting bad.
I'm dying over your "I don't even know what this is" vibe. I love it! Reminds me of my first few months living in Japan, great feeling. (Been here over a decade now) Oh, and by the way, that sign on the wall is not your street name, it says "Christ is resurrected. He beats death." Pretty random, but that's actually what it says.
Really? Wow!! I love it !!!!
I used to live in Okinawa, Yomitan, Nakagami District around 2010-2014. We lived off base, outside of Tori Station. When I was there the building behind ours caught on fire towards the 9th or 8th floor. Since I lived on the 8th and the fire was on the floor straight across. When I would look down in front of the building (before fire) there was a farming field to the right, more apartments that were way smaller than our building, some above ground family sites, and a path. One of my favorite things to do was to sit outside and watch the planes land on my left. The area wasn't built up too much and I liked it like that. I would enter the Tori Station Gate where the Class Six is to drive to Kadena and Foster. I truly miss it and am planning on retiring there!
I did 2 tours in Okinawa. Kadena and Torii Station. Loved it there. People were very nice. Not as busy as mainland Japan. Great restaurants, culture and nightlife for a young guy. The beaches were beautiful. Very different vibe from Tokyo.
it honestly looks like a more asian version of the bay area lol
Lmao I’m from the Bay and this made me laugh 😂
Ya I’m stationed here in Okinawa and I’m from the Bay, it’s so identical at night
Grew up on Okinawa for 16 years. 😊 Last place we lived was Mizugama right outside of Kadena AB. I have heard it has changed a lot since the 90's.
BC Street is no longer as busy & alive like it was then. 😓Only on wkends but still not as busy. My mom is from Koza (Okinawa City).
My husband was stationed in Okinawa in 67 & 68 and I joined him there. I loved living there! My landlady was so sweet and helpful to me. We lived in Yafuso by Machinato (not sure on spellings ). Our home was on a hill where we overlooked the China sea. I will always remember those sunsets. The locals I meet where the nicest people. Became good friends with one, Sayoko, who came to the states and visited us. I often wish I could go back and visit there again.
We lived on Camp Courtney from 88-94. I miss Okinawa so much. It was easily some of the best times in my childhood.
My mom worked at Video Shack just off base. I remember watching sooo many movies in there while she worked. The ladies next door at Casa Taco would occasionally feed us in exchange for getting to touch my sister’s blonde hair (that wasn’t as weird as it sounds lol, blonde hair and blue eyes were considered good luck).
I miss the beaches most of all though!
I loved Okinawa, I was stationed there in 1982 to 1983 at Kadena Air Base. I liked the island life so much, I extended my tour. Lot's of good memories there.
Thank you for this! We get to live vicariously through you. So friggin cool.
I lived there for 3 years. I still remember the smells there like the sewer ditches (binjo ditch).
I came back and visited there 3 years ago after growing up there for some years as a kid. I discovered FamilyMart and Lawson. I really like those places 😆
Don't remember them as a kid
It’s crazy how 60-70yrs ago that Okinawa was caught in the middle of the pacific war. The USMC and US Army fought the Japanese on that island.
Not middle towards the end actually.
@@briancooper2112 Watch the Pacific War (Band of brothers).
ye disgusting the good nation usa is the only one who threw nuclear bombs and today they make the rules ,who is allowed to have nuclear bombs, but ye westworld beleives still today they are the good ones, brainwashed to the fullest, 420 peace from germany, the funny point without germans scientists they never could build a nuclear bomb ,and more funny without the 2 ww america wouldnt be so powerfull today....anyway its russias ,americas , brits fault southeast asia has some conflicts today
@@krauterbaron360 Japanese soldiers cannibalized American soldiers, and were fighting with the Nazis. There’s been multiple cases of how brutal Japan was during WW2. They weren’t exactly good people either. It’s war, there’s no good side. This was years ago, different government and people. Japan is one of our greatest ally now.
@@A_Random_Rat its the first time i hear that but it seems to be true that japanese cannibalized american soldiers.germany had an alliance with japan but they doesent fought together .you know how many people got killed by american soldiers since 45? 30 million around . and its disgusting the westworld believes its ok throwing bombs over middleeast and killing people day by day the russians arent better. and then the westworld is wondering why people are terrorize europe and joining the taliban. thank you america for bombing the world for money power and oil....we can just fight terror with justice in the world.
I lived in okinawa in the 80s great memories
Well done! I definitely think you should do more videos of living in Okinawa. I was born there myself. Videos like this help future assignment and their families prepare for what to expect before getting there and helps with the transition.
Thanks for the quick tour. Brings back memories. Okinawa was my first duty station way back in the 90s. Futenma. I remember I almost died trying to get acclimatized to the humidity when I got off the plane, lol. I don't really remember anyone being able to stay "out in town" back then? Single Marines and those on accompanied tours with families that I can remember, stayed on base in base housing. But I could be remembering that wrong because hey, I was single and young so life was all about going to the seawall, beaches, clubs, FOOD, "Gate 2 Street" Naha and Kadena, lol. And the arcades. We didn't have any restrictions on travel/libo when I was there but that was years ago. I do remember most all cars being white back then and LOTS of rust. Miss "My House" right down the hill from Futenma, the Taco Rice and just hanging out. 90s was a great time to be young on "the rock". Semper Fi
I also lived in Futemna on the hill overlooking the Marine area. I was Army working in the Hospital. While there (mid 1970s) the Army gave hospital to the Navy. I stayed on 2 more years under the Navy Command
Thanks for posting!was there 77-78 still miss it,just grows on you 💙
definitely tryna see some more around your area!! keep the vids goin!!
I believe thats TOGUCHI village in Yomitan-son. Thats near Torii station. I was able to read the bus stop sign.
Fun fact. That area was one of the locations the Marines first landed on Okinawa in WWII
I was in Okinawa in 1981. This was the year the piss test was first used. I was at Camp Foster and was familiar the areas around there and MCAS Futenma . I have been looking on Googles Maps and Street view. It has changed a lot. Semper Fi
Loved the video, it took me back to my days at Camp Hansen. I lived off base and the neighborhoods look the same. I noticed the sewer early in the video, glad you touched on it. Okinawa was one of my best experiences in the Corps. I loved that place and really miss it. Take a video inside your place with the sliding walls. take nothing for granted and enjoy each moment there.
Okinawa gets big typhoons on the regular, that is why everything looks like it is built out of concrete. That's because it is, almost every building is steel reinforced concrete. All the buildings on post are, too. Was on Okinawa twice, 1994-1996 and again 2007-2010. MCAS Futenma and them Kadena AFB.
Thank u for a virtual tour..place is clean n peacefull.
Its amazing how quiet and clean it is in that village. Thanks for the cool video.
Loved Okinawa. Was there for over 3 and a half years from '87 to '90. Was stationed at Foster. Spent many a nights on BC and weekends at Sunabe seawall. Also was a hung out in Kinville. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.
as someone who is okinawan but has never been there + struggles to feel connected, watching this means a lot. thank you!
Konnichiwa !
@hana yoshimoto Same!
Cool video. I served 3 years in Okinawa from 1984-87 and i really miss it. Probably the hottest place I've ever been besides the Philippines. The indigenous people are so very kind and polite. Lots of wonderful memories. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you for sharing. It’s very insightful
Appreciate u sharing your perspective. Opening us up to new opportnities. Peace
I like how every driveway has mirrors on the edges to look out into the street. Pretty neat.
Enjoyed your video, thank you. I loved Okinawa, was there 1985 to 1991, Kadena AFB.
Wonderful tour. Thank you ! Wow ! The streets are paved now ! The concrete "stealy boy walls" look good! It is an old benjo ditch ! People used to pee there! Lol It is the sewer. I recognized it right away. They used to be open and uncovered. We had a Mitsubishi , pink. Last visit 1968. Bars are good..
Great video bro.
I love Okinawa life.
Yeah another colture.
Stay safe 🙏🏿❤️💪🏿
Nice looking view of your apartment and Okinawa, Japan, hope you enjoyed your self in your deployment
Stationed at Kadena from 88-91 lived off base the entire time. We had to live off base until we made E4 we had no curfews. My first house had no phone we moved eventually to a house that had a phone. There were no cell phones no GPS no cable tv. We had one tv station and one radio station. (AFRTS) . I loved my time there. Went back again in 2012 with my wife for 3 months and I’ve lived in mainland Japan for 4 years. Been back a few times to visit the other islands. There are 150 islands that make up the Okinawa prefecture I’d encourage everyone to visit them!
Thanks for posting this! My dad is half Okinawan but was adopted by American citizens. It's cool to get a little tour from this perspective.
Camp Kinser 1980-1982. Brings back memories. Great place for diving! Spent every weekend on BC st.
I love Oki.
Enjoy your life and days there.
Beautiful Okinawa.
I miss that place, my buddy and I bought a $700 car and went all over the island, snorkeled alot.
Enjoy
Great video👌🏻 definitely make more showing Japan
i miss Okinawa so much man. Thanks for the vid, bringing back a lot of memories
Me too.
My wife is from Okinawa and we’re planning to move and buy a house there in a couple of years! Can’t wait
looks beautiful. i had a business for a couple of years that went under so when i see this calm and quiet place i probably see something else than most people. i want quiet.
I was in mainland Japan in the early 90s. Yes the people are honest and friendly and while there is a lot of traffic the drivers are very courteous .

You have a good house.
Good luck!!
I love the tour thank you
Just did a project on Japan for my international business class. Very interesting culture.
Love the video bro! I spent a year in Okinawa stationed at MCAS Futenma and I loved it! If you're a fan of chicken yakisoba there was a place right outside the Futenma gate called "My House" and they got the best noodles!
It is so funny to watch your culture shock. Japan is so unique
Did 4 yrs on Oki. Yomitan just north of Kadena... convenient for the Big AAFES and Commissary. Good locations, Okuma, Torri Station (if you like beaches), White Beach. Go North to Nago where it's less crowded.
Wow Japan looks pretty cool awesome videos home of jdm
AONIXA..glad to see you are finding your way in your new town and welcome to Okinawa. I hope you and your family enjoy and are safe. It looks super chill, people waving at you.and a nice environment. As well it looks super clean no trash on the sides of the roads. As you know some states here are good like that and others,, not so good...Thank you sir for your service and comittment..have a great day and a Happy and safe Merry Christmas/ New Year.

I miss Oki! Cool place!
Great vid, we're all coming to visit.
I love that type of overseas living and neat looking communities. Nice tour of the area.. I see you on a previous channel downing some beer Modelo. Would like to see you drink a bottle of Orion beer and give us a review.
Orion beer is good. 😉🍺
@@kkokinawa73 there's bertter beer out here
That was a Cool segment, Demetrius Patterson.
Mahalo👍🏾
I love Okinawa. I did a few projects at Kadena and Camp Foster and didn’t wanna leave.
So much nostalgia, born and raised here as a local ;-; lived in Awase, Chatan, Okinawa city, and Naha!
Are you still here?
@@AONIXO no, ive been in the states for over 7 years now. It's driving me nuts not being able to visit home!
@@OkiMiku I miss it there too ;n; I'm also in the states for about 12 years now .. hope to go back at least to visit ..
Nice gimble very stable smooth filming. Also I haven't seen cigarette venting machines since the 80's lol.
Just me but I like this lifestyle way more than in the city
You should see the vending machines in places like Tokyo. Japanese love their vending machines. They sell just about anything you can think of. I'm not sure if they have anything like the Carvana vending machines for cars; but if anyone else the world would, it would be them.
I always tell people about how nice it was to get hot drinks from the vending machines. Those cans get HOT, though. 😊
I’m thinking about moving to Okinawa thanks for the post
Thanks, it brings back memories, Semper fi Marine
Thanks for that awesome tour brother???? Was stationed at camp Hansen in 1984 then got an accompanied tour from 1984 to 1989 at camp Foster???? Where are you stationed????
Outstanding. You're nailing it Brah. In their mind you're black so you've lived racial prejudice like they do. You're being warm and friendly by waving with a smile and you greet them like human beings. The very respect and dignity you give them is all Okinawans have ever asked from us. Suggestions. Keep doing what you're doing and use key polite phrases in Okinawan. Learn to bow like they do and the whole Island will open up to you in ways few ever see. Don't compare where you are to anywhere you've been. See it with a fresh perspective like they do and I promise you won't want leave. Okinawans are a warm and friendly People who embrace you because they see you as the good people you truly are. Have a blast Devil. The Rock is off the chain.
Great video, I love your innocent perspective, also your respect and how you want to learn the life and culture. Keep making more videos. Do you also stream on twitch?
Great job Love video 👍
5:25 spotted the Eunos Roadster pog ww
edit: Thanks for the video AONIXO. I was curious about the island.
I know where you live! My daughter and her husband live in Yomitan, when I was visiting them I probably walked right past your house on my way to Toguchi beach. They live close to the high school NE of you by where the road that Starbucks is on T's at the top of the hill left to Tori station right to their neighborhood, : Oki , loved Yomitan, and Toguchi, hope your deployment is a good one and you get to experience all the cool things Okinawa has to offer, if you haven't been Okuma is a great place to spend a weekend. Enjoy!
Thanks for this heading to Oki in 2 months!
You gonna love it here
Pretty cool neighborhood
Reminds me of the Big Island in Hawaii, particularly Hilo.
The ocean nice over there
This video is different..now I want to visit there.
I was in from 2005-2010. I was stationed in Camp Hansen from 2006-2008. I miss everything about it.
I especially miss the food right outside Camp Hansen, the beef yakisoba from White Kitchen and the Taco rice and cheese.😅
If it's not too much to ask can you please make some videos about the food there at those places?
I hope to one day take my wife and kids to Japan.
Planning to visit Okinawa next summer. Please send me tips on what areas and hotels.
Man i miss the island, I was stuck on CAMP Hansen the whole time (fmf) I was there but of course explored and loved the island even more ^^-
Okinawa was basically our second home port since we loaded marines all the time there from Sasebo. It was a blast
I'd rather be back in Oki then here in Texas, any day. Was stationed out there from 03-05, loved it.
My , 2 brothers were at Oki on the way to Nam , one of my two marine sisters was there for yrs. Dad was a ball turret gunner at Guadal Cannal . Mom was a cpl at Miramar Marine air base Cali .
With Wpns Co. 3/2 in 82 and 84.Stationed at Camp Schwab.Great memories.
Coco’s curry house!!!! I loved OKI! Stationed at Kadena….07-09.
Heading back for my 5th time in 06/2024 fantastic place
Wonderful video bro
3:55 They are selling a Bento (Japanese lunch box) 🍱🥗
God, I miss living in Okinawa!
I really hope I make it back again someday
SGT. Patterson, after looking at this video several times, I know exactly where you live. Of course I will not put the precise location on blast on you tube. I had an old girlfriend who lived not far from you. You live in a nice neighborhood.
There are a lot of dead end streets on the rock, and your street is one of them.
Semper Fi.
SGT. Tommy Lynch back in the day.
PS Kept the videos coming, not only for your viewers, because these videos will be ever lasting memories for you, and your family for many years down the road to look back on. I am sorry I didn’t take more pics when I was there.
Was stationed a kinser, Hansen and swab. Lived on okinawa for 11 years. Last home was on macinado. Semper fi
now thats the type of video i like that so. that shit cool af
wow nice! I live in okianwa too!
3:50 I could already see a protagonist walking down this street at the start of an anime...
I , want to thank the Okinawan people for sharing your island with an old Marine, 1970-71.
Very clean & concrete buildings remind me of Jamaica. They don't maintain outside of buildings....all dirty & look like mold.
I would love to visit japan, when its Dsave to travel!
Great job
This is pretty close by to Toguchi Beach. One of my favorite beaches and the strip mall is there too. Enjoy ☺️
