  • Audio only Finally! Here's my reaction to Slipknot's "Solway Firth." I know, I know, it's not the music video. But for Slipknot especially, I'm here to focus on the song and the song itself, without the added visual stimulation. :) Agree to disagree, I guess. A huge thank you to all of you maggots who asked for this one: Brandon Taylor, Gabriel Stratton, Duran millward, Rafael Lemgruber, Anthony C, Adam N, Tristan Knight, domagoj jerković. I really enjoyed it, and I do plan to watch the video at some point. I have a list of Slipknot songs to do, so more on the way. Thanks for watching. You all are awesome. :)

10:28 for once, no, that isn't Sid. That's Craig Jones (The spiky mask guy). He is the sampler of the band. He ties in the environment of the songs together and really fills the empty space, his role is subtle, but you do notice the difference if his samples weren't in there.

Snuff was the first Slipknot song I ever heard. I knew who they were, I just never thought I’d like them. But I heard Snuff right after my divorce was finalized, and it saved my life! Then I heard Dead Memories, then Psychosocial, then just went through their whole catalog. Snuff will always be my favorite for sentimental reasons, but I’d have to say The Devil in I is my favorite song now.
Also, I love that you do the lyrical reactions instead of the videos, but when you get to Spit it Out you should watch the Live at Download 2009 video. Former drummer Joey Jordison GETS DOWN!!! And I know how much you love drums...

They both deal with very heavy subject matter. One is Daddy by Korn and the other is Jonestown Tea by Otep. I am going way back here because now you have heard Not Long For this World. This song should make abit more sense now to explain (imo)
This song takes place long after the events that caused WANYK to be written. The transition between Not Long and Solway Firth, i believe, is meant to represent a passage of time. Where Not Long is acceptance and forcing yourself to move on, this song is more of an 'aftershock' after a period of calm (the quiet transition).
The song itself is finally having the strength to get something off your chest that you didn't know how to say or want to say before. He confronts the people in his life who stabbed him in the back. He is acknowledging people who just told him to be happier while he was depressed, and the people who walked away. He is also acknowledging his side of things (i.e, he was addicted to pain).
The main concept is based around the picture of 'The Solway Firth Spaceman'. Its an image where an apparent astronaut appears behind a young girl, when no one else was there when it was taken. I.e, its an unexplainable picture that no scientist or photography expert has been able to explain. In the same way, depression is impossible to explain to people who havent experienced it.
He uses this song to tell people he didn't owe them an explanation, or a fully detailed breakdown of what happened to him (fans, friends and exes), but he doesn't want them to look away, because he still has something to say. That something is, effectively, 'I failed me. But you also failed me. And you have to know it WAS partially your fault I struggled so much.' Its dark, and most people with depression dont want to tell people that they helped cause it or made it worse, but you wont help them improve if you dont tell them.
Now that he has had his aftershock, or his lash out, or something triggered him to go off (the alarm bells is a warning he is about to go off on someone and tell them what he really thinks), he is saying to them, move on, be free of me, but i am also free of you.
As for the echo in Not Long and the intro to this, i believe it is meant to represent things being said in your head. This song, in the beginning, shows him thinking back on his depression and it angers him. The tempo upkick and removal of echo, i believe, is meant to represent him actually saying something to someone, and not just saying it in his head.
There is alot more to say, but if you read all of this, you jave probably heard enough lol.

Yeah the majority of these album's songs are about Corey's ex wife. Corey puts his pain in a lot of songs, or maybe in all of the songs to be honest. Pain is the main thing in Slipknot and that's what categorizes them. But also pain can be quite inspirational and moving if it's done correctly. And that's what Slipknot does.

@@MusicCatsandCoffee no it's not. If you google "Solway Firth photo" it should bring up an old picture of a little girl in a summer dress taken in the solway firth meadow. But there is a hazy image of what looks like a spaceman standing behind her. The photographer and the family said the was never anyone behind her and it only showed up in the one picture

I don't want to say you're right...but you're right. Not everyone. But most people are just here for the shock value and the views, not for the music at all. It's sad, really. That said, I do think I'm pretty weird, so. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it! :)

You are definitely weird. But in a good way and i think in our world everyone who enjoys corey screaming in your ears is considered weird. But i meant it in a way that most people when reacting to music and in my experience especially slipknot they tend to fake their reaction so they seem more amazed or shocked. But i just want to see people listening to my favorite music. And in lockdown times i watched an unholy amount of reactions. There are a lot of people that think more is better but people who tend to listen to the small things like the lyrics (duh) or recognize small sounds in the back those are the most fun to watch. Sorry to write that much.

Since you put text in your videos I started watching them on TV instead of listening to them when I game, which is cool.
It is true there are a lot of reactions out there, but there are a lot of people in the world and plenty of amazing, incredible music to go around. I absolutely love seeing people explore things I love or finding new love from things other people introduce me to.
Honestly though, in the end.... I think you get views and attention because people like you. It is true that if I'm not a fan of a song or a band I might skip a react to it even if I like the person, that's just how it can be.
I just wanted you to know i get a lot out of the reactions I watch. It's like exploring a fond topic with a new friend. We could all use more connections to be honest. Just my 2 cents maybe I am being melodramatic.
I will say that the angery Corey you see is a product of an absolutely awful childhood stuck away in the middle of Nowhere Iowa with very abusive people (not) caring for him at all. There is no reason to make those feelings sound "good" . Corey doesn't sing with that power all these years later just because he's talented, he's molded by that pain....which im sure you have noticed because a lot of his writing is about pain.
Sorry for the long comment I just really connected with this video and had a lot to say. :D

Thank you so much for this. I hate the thought of being on a big screen but I appreciate the reason. I don't want to talk during the song and miss things, so I started adding comments when I edit. And I agree with your connection comment 100%. I basically talk to the camera/you all as if I know you and we're chatting about some tunes, you know? That includes asking questions, and I'm so grateful when they're answered. It makes it more of a conversation and that's pretty cool. So thanks for being a part of it. :)

This song is a big FU to his ex wife and for good reason. Also those very minor background details would be Craig Jones. He does samples and keyboard. Sid also adds effects but they are more often scratching and DJ stuff.

I'm not gonna speculate but someone "hung themselves" and now we have the song🤔 I like slipknot but their lyrics are ... Well you get the picture the best songs ever written were the ones that have truth behind them 😁😉

I"ve got a theory on this song and I dont' think it is directed to an individual like Nero Forte, I believe it's a statement on society. I think it's important to watch the Band's video with footage from "The Boys". Then, watch "The Boys". I really believe the song and the show tie together. Basically, it is learned cynicism writ large.
While I was learning to live, we all were living a lie - in the show, the superhero personas are a fantasy built by a corporate PR department. Billy (one of the main characters) is violently thrust into the reality and cannot look away. He chooses to confront the reality even though it costs him everything.
They pick your bones like locks inside a tomb, and take great care to not take care of you - the corporation (and the allegorical extension of our government and corporations) are supposed to take care of us, but in fact they prey upon us.
Here's an unexplainable one - Solway Firth is a place in Scotland known for the Solway spaceman, a notionally supernatural photo that seems to show an alien accidentally caught on film. So many people are willing to accept the outlandish, "unexplainable" theory that the photographer accidentally captured a spaceman on film. Instead of the more likely double exposure, either inadvertent or outright hoax. The lyrics point out the truth and dare us to not look away.
We choose to live the comfortable lie instead of facing the more unsettling reality. We all do this, every day.
I know I'll never go home, so set fire to your ships and past regrets and be free - When Cortez landed in the new world he burned his ships so his men would be motivated. Once you face the truth, do not look back. The old world is dead and gone, the only path is forward.
To me, this is the most powerful verse in the song. Once you see the truth, there's no un-seeing it. Knowing the truth changes you.

It's kind of ironic with how brutal Slipknot is as a whole, that many of their later songs are about the music industry and women. I, personally, don't know how anyone can be that sustainably hateful and vitriolic over such relatively harmless subjects. It kind of makes me wonder what they'd come up with if they were opposing real cruelty and sickening acts in the world.
