I’m surprised there are no comments on this video. Great comparison, and you might be the most accurate person on RUclips with your chopping. Seen countless videos of chopping, but you made the comparison seem more valid with your accuracy. Strange choice of music, probably for most people, but I personally found it relaxing. Edit: Oh, didn’t realize this video was 4 days old.
For the price of all... Skrama 240. Ease of handling, the axe. I'm disappointed with the amalgam. Figured it being front heavy it would've done better. Bark River makes some awesome knives... but for the price... I'll suffer the Skrama 240.
Excellent review. A few years ago I compared a Malay parang chandong (not the Condor model), a Nepalese kukri, an Indonesian golok and a Filipino bolo. I was very impressed by the parang, and I would like to see it compared to the skrama. I am not very convinced by full tang machetes, because they vibrate in the hand. The skrama has a full tang, but surrounded by a rubber handle, and does not vibrate. Greetings from Chile!
Possibly. It is a very nice option. Remember that cpm 1V is over 2x as tough, and has higher wear resistance and edge retention than 80CrV2. Also there are some skrama reports of inconsistent heat treating of only 52hrc ruclips.net/video/ke1OEi_Y3aQ/видео.html
@@blueredleaves1v is not twice as tough as 80crv2, it’s not even as tough as 80crv2. 80crv2 has equal or slightly higher toughness than s7, which has slightly higher toughness than 1v. As for lateral strength/toughness, 80crv2 should have a bit better lead. 1v has better edge retention, corrosion resistance and it’s also super tough like the other two mentioned steels, so it’s a great…just expensive and harder to get compared to 80crv2
What’s with all the butthurt peeps on here. This was a good video comparing different tools. I liked it. I have the Skrama 240, Bruks wildlife axe, and numerous Bark Rivers. I use them all.
those poor tools wasted in the hands of someone who can't handle them look at those nasty cuts, can't even maintain the proper angle or hit the same spot 🥲
Born and raised in Michigan. So i love Bark River. But... for cost effectiveness, its the 240 Skrama. Itll do do " nearly tje job" for half the price. Im Bark River all day, but...
Yeah 240 for sure if you’re just mainly chopping like this. The machete is cool cause it can do easier work clearing vines, briars, grasses and such machete jobs while still doing great with chopping.
Imagine a car driver, trying to fly an airplane. Then claiming, that even though he couldn't fly the airplane beause he didn't know how, that the car can do what an airplane can. Isn't that wrong? That's the same, when trying to compare and axe with a bladed tool like a knife or a machete. All those 3, are 100 different tools fro different uses. Machetes are used to clear vegetation, cut bamboo, small brarnches etc. Axes are used either for felling a tree or of spliting wood, that's why even axes are very different too. Other axes are meant for one job, others for another use. If you have used that axe as it should be used, you would have cut off that wood in 2 pieces, with half if not less the chops you did and half the energy you used in each hit. Chopping is a technique, that comes with rules too. It's not a muscle job, hitting straight down, trying to hit the same spot all the time. That's wrong. PS I'm not an axe guy, I'm a 100 knife guy but also a realist. So forgive me if this hurts, that's the nature of truth, it always hurts. I never just say my opinion, as a realist, I always talk about facts. That doesn't mean, I didn't like a video full of blades! or don't respect your efforts. I subed, keep it up!
The biggest difference is price the skrama is very cheap compared to barkriver. Not that I wouldn't like the barkriver I just can't justify the prices. I'm really I didn't see $200 difference in performance.
Totally valid point. Just to clarify, with sheaths and shipping, the skrama is $120 and the bark river was $220 (when it was available) - the price for me was only $100 different. The bark river is definitely a premium custom hand made knife, it feels like it, and the metal, the grind, and heat treat are superior, AND, the skrama is great at its price.
@@blueredleaves yeah I saw it went down I thinking when it first came out. I'm still not the type that would spend $200 on a machete. I wonder how much difference it would be from a 12inch tramatina or even a ontario. The one difference I know is most machetes come dull. I'm wonder with a good edge is worth the difference. A 12inch ontario is what $25. I'm a big machete fan. I really enjoyed your video though. An thank for the comment it makes me happy to hear opinions even when I'm wrong. That's how we improve.
Not a great comparison. The terava skramas are good chopper's. One would expect the Axe to be a good chopping tool. I have the skramas and a 110 and 140.i also have a bark river bravo 1.i would never consider using the bravo for chopping. Personally I think the skramas are phenomenal blades. Enjoyed the video.

Yes new vid - I'm glad you found the music relaxing - it is probably pretty odd for a video like this =)
How is a axe and a Bravo 1 a great comparison?
@@Fluxxcapacitor52 Because they indicate examples of each end of a spectrum, clarifying the similarities of rest of the knives he’s comparing.

Cool Video 👍
Thank U for the Info 👍
The fact that you cant cut clear through that log with the axe in 20 shots let alone 40. Tells me you have no idea what you're doing.
Excellent video.Thank you
Glad you liked it!
You should try a Japanese nata. Bulk combined with ergonomics and very sharp Japanese steel.
Empressing video. I thought, that the axe is much better.
Greetings
Christian 🙂
Thanks for this interesting video. Given this heavy use I predict a higher resistance and a longer life for the Skrama due to its larger thickness.

He used the Amalgram incorrectly. He was swinging straight down with it. Gotta let your wrists do all the work with a flicking action.

A Condor Kukri!?
@@43Lugan never used one but been thinking of trying a kukri

很喜欢这样的对比视频,干的漂亮!看来还是斧子是王者,哈哈哈。不过我今天刚买了Skrama 200,期待啊。

Bruh the guy just showed how the machetes compared to an axe since axe is the best chopper obviously. He wasn't really comparing axes to machetes.
I had high hopes for the amalgam.
the Terava Skrava series and the bravo alpha are more like a medium sized knifes

Good video but your back ground music is way to loud...very annoying really...better to not have it.
You must hit in V shape not 90% on tree, it would choop biger chips...
Bark River Ja Nap crushes all of these. Negative is that I have large hatchets that weigh the same.
I'd recommend the Machete - super light and I think it will really suprise you with the chopping
The skrama has to cut double thickness !!
Skrama 240 is clear winner
