What's so cool is I have a D850 and have used other nikon DSLR's and you can just pick this up and instantly the controls are familiar! Its a testament to how Nikon's stuck to a proven good formula over all these years.
You had it right the first time....the MB15 IS a battery grip, holding six batteries...the motor drive is inside the camera. It's a wonderful accessory as it's designed for horizontal and vertical grippage! Thanks for the video! I'm dusting off my F100 after 20 years and looking forward to shooting some film again!
The reason the Cs sounds almost the same as the C is a user can choose the exact frame rate of Cs from 1 fps all the way to the same frame rate of C. In this case, the Cs was set the be the same frame rate as C.
The sticky back was also a problem with a few different Nikon DSLRs. My Nikon D70s developed a sticky body. I solved the problem by applying 92% alcohol (99% alcohol is even better but it is hard to find and expensive). NOTE: Common 70% Rubbing Alcohol WILL NOT WORK. Rub the alcohol all over the body about 5 times with a cleaning rag to remove all of the stickiness. Once the stickiness is gone, you will notice it now has a dull finish. Wipe the body down with 3 or 4 Armor-All wipes to restore the shine. I treated my D70s over 6 years ago and the stickiness never returned.
The MB-15 is a BATTERY grip because the F100 already has a motor drive built in to forward the film from frame to frame. If you look at the top deck of the camera, the F100 does NOT have a film wind crank like older manual cameras did. Th MB-15 is much like the battery grips for the various DSLRs that followed the F100 as well as those designed to work with the Z6II and Z7II.
I had a Nikon F100 - It was the very BEST Nikon camera for the dollar spent. Great features, and great capabilities, but NOT the "best" because it was hardly designed to be the BEST of the best. Just best for the money, and worth every penny, unlike a few other camera which cost 2 or 3 times as much money.
A couple of important things could have made this review more complete. 1) that the F100 has a weak door latch that's prone to breaking. There's a fix that can be Googled, and 2) both the F100 and F80 can use VR and third party OS stabilized lenses. One other thing: f16 is the smallest aperture, not the largest. Otherwise, thumbs up.
I have the same problem with the weak film door. 2 broken. I cringed seeing he closing the camera without carefully holding the latch. If you could inform where I could repair the latch.
Great camera. I have the F100 and it is a pleasure to shoot with. I am keeping my eyes open for a good price on a F5 or F6. I also have a N90s but it just does not feel as good in my hands.
Hi, great thorough review - Very much considering buying one!! My one query is if the modern G lenses (without the aperture ring) work on aperture priority mode?
Cs means Continuous Silent, not Continuous Slow. My understanding is in Cs the mirror is locked up after the first shot until you release the shutter button to make the camera quieter for weddings, etc.
Wow. I did not know that. By E you mean the new E lenses that are currently out. Not the vintage Series E lenses of the past. For anyone else who reads this comment.
If you shut your camera down and then turn it on, does it keep in memory your program mode (MASP), your shutter speed, your flm speed and your aperture?
Got my F100. Quite happy with it but...with Ai-type lenses, you can only use M and A and it doesn't show the aperture on the screen or in the viewfinder , you cannot use matrix metering also. It keeps in memory your controls.
Seeing your reply prompted me to look at the cheat sheet for the custom settings, and it turns out that I was mistaken, there is no setting on the F100 to rewind the film and leave the leader out.
So almost hate to tell how good a camera this is, but here goes: Works great with Nikon G series lenses, including with VR, works great with AI and AIS lenses. The camera is recording all of the expose information which can be read back to a CF card using the Nikon MV-1 Data Reader (also works with F5 and F6).
Quick question. My aperture dial doesn't seem to work. Is it locked? I have the lens set up at F22 as you said, but when I rotate the aperture dial it is just stuck at F2. I don't see it say L anywhere on top of F2. Program, shutter priority and manual (shutter only) all works. But I can't seem to get it to work with aperture priority or change the aperture on manual. Hope you can help me. Thanks!
I use a 100% Manual Schneider 28mm PC shift-lens on the F100. It's fine, although I prefer to use it on an F3, and safe the F100 for Autofocus lenses for which it was intended.
Bought one today but i have a problem with loading The film. It shows Err and E in The display when i load a film. I have tried to load it a couple of times but it dosent matter. The camera spools The film and The ISO is correct so no problem there. Any solutions or should I take it to a camerashop for service?
Jens A this is a common problem with the f100. Set the iso manually, fire the shutter button, remove the batteries. One of these things works for me every time. Sometimes firing the shutter is the only way to clear it. Very annoying. Also for some reason using the depth of field button will cause this problem. I changed the setting to not read the dx of the film and always set the film speed manually. I haven’t had an err message since.
@@DaveMontejano Thanks for your answer but no luck for me. Tried your tips but nothing worked for me. Its like The camera thinks it dosent spool but it does. It spools The film very long actually. The camera works fine without film in it. Bought it for 65$ and it looks really good so would be really nice to get it to work! 👍
The way you closed that door will break the latch and there are no new doors. You want to open the lock then close it. I have a useless F100 because the latch broke and there are more F100 without doors for resale than with for parts. Also, the stickiness can be treated with a product from Sonax called Rubber Protectant GummiPfleger. Just dab it on a couple of times until the tacky is gone.
Back was not sticky after 1 use of CVS antibacterial hand wipe then dampnwiped off. Glad I did not use alcohol. I have had 3 rolls scanned in NY pro lab one with processing and 24 mbps tiff for $30;roll. The have even higher vres for. higher cost. I love the handling and feel of the body, Costs and getting hang of heat use means for occasional use. I hope the body lasts many more years.
If you plan to shoot a lot of film I recommend investing in a decent film scanner. It’ll pay for itself after 10-15 rolls of developed film. If someone wants to buy a print then take your negative to a lab and get a high quality scan and print but if it’s for your blog or instagram then your own scan will look just fine. I realized this after developing 2 rolls with scanning adding $10 per roll

The F100 natively was designed to use AF-D lenses. You can use AF-D lenses on all Nikon DSLRs. Although AF-D lenses may not be compatible on Nikon's new digital mirrorless cameras without an adapter. As a side note, you can use old manual focus Nikkor AI and AIS (excluding pre-ai) on pretty much every Nikon Film or digital camera ever made (excluding Nikon film rangefinders).
My understanding is you can use all modern auto focus F-mount lenses on the F100. I have the F4s that will not allow me to use my G series lenses in the fully manual mode because there is no aperture ring on the G lenses. With my newly purchased F100 I will be able to use full Manual mode because the F100 has the aperture dial on the front of the camera body.
