    I think they are a great band and deserve a lot of respect just for being brave and different. I have loved them since Old Mr. B introduced me to them (figuratively :p ) . We are talikng about South Korea here ... the land of pop. Rolling Quartz had trouble getting people to accept K-Rock and even now the home market for them is smaller than the international one. I was really happy to see Rumkicks play on an international tour. I really hope these girls gain a big following.

    as long as you're real punks and not just playing an act to call attention or act the part as some people do (as this culture is sadly very poluted with what's called posers) it doesn't makes any difference if you are man or woman. You are human, you're a punk, that's it. And it's good to keep having street punk styled punks out there as that part of our culture is losing more and more as time goes by.

    • @RevStickleback
      @RevStickleback 2 года назад +1

      The Korean punk scene is sadly very small, and 'looking punk' apparently isn't the default look of a teen going through a rebel phase as it is in the west. The lead singer is actually a doctor in a hospital for stroke patients, as has to keep the punk part of her life secret to a large degree.

    A lot hate women in rock because they get some kind of vacarious tough-guy image from the music they like, and if women do it, it's like it's shrunk their manhood.
    A lot hate East Asians in rock, as they see it as some kind of cultural appropriation, and they'll accuse them of copying punk styles (as if a modern punk band from Seattle is copying any less) or 'not doing it right' because they aren't exactly like punks from the USA or England.
    There are also others who seem to object to punk having any notable degree of musicianship or melody, in a kind of US Hardcore fundamentalism.
    It is crazy. People will pick up the tiniest of things. Rumkicks got a wall of hate comments, accusing them of being product placement sellouts, because one Instagram photo had a can of Coke in it...because, obviously, if you are marketing a global brand, the obvious choice would be to seek out a little-known band from a country where their genre of music isn't popular at all, and pay them to include a can in a photo that might be seen by a few hundred people.
    What I'd say is just take pleasure in the fact that you are annoying these people. They deserve to be annoyed. Rumkicks' song "Punk Is Nowhere" is the perfect response, trolling the trolls.

      I live in Hanoi Vietnam and also lived in Bangkok was one of the founders of Punk Rock Bangkok. I'm pretty open to different genres even go to a lot of metal gigs. I'm always trying to search out punk gigs around Asia next year plan to check out Libertad festival on an island in Jarkata. I've seen a lot of great punk gigs here also trying to organize shows. The biggest punk scene was in Myanmar but also Malaysia has a mix punk hardcore bands. Its good to see more punk bands get exposure outside of Asia. I would love for some of my friends bands to play Rebellion Lowfat, The Greed, Shibui, 7 uppercuts, The Die Hards, Rebel Riot or Cut Lon just to name a few. My plan is to finally make it to Rebellion next year!

    Well , this is what we in my age bracket was worried about , first , the word adorable does not mix well with true hard core . And the trendy scene of today is not punk , it is a fashion statement and real punks did not dress like clowns . Sorry but I'm from the South Bay. We are the roots of hardcore. And we dressed plain and did not want nothing to do with adorable. Yes I am a jerk , a jerk for life

    • @RevStickleback
      @RevStickleback 2 года назад +6

      When was it decided that US Hardcore is the true punk? Much of their inspiration comes from British punk and the rest of the small punk scene in Korea, so why should they give a toss about how it's done in South Bay? And if you think punk is trendy in South Korea, you have no idea. You talk about their style being 'a fashion'. Newsflash, your dressing plain is also a fashion. You are just conforming to a different style.

So we are on two different sides of the track , and I will stay in my side . Punk is also a person term which also means getting it up the arse for being weak or owing a debt that can't be paid . In truth there seems to be much less resistance to bands being female in East Asia on the whole. Japan in particular (I know they are Korean) has an absolute ton of all female bands, partly because unlike in the west, young women are encouraged to play musical instruments, and the scene and public completely accepts them.

      @@cius2112 Just over a week ago, on a tour of Indonesia, some member of a local 'true punk' band ran up and threw a full glass (thankfully plastic) of beer at the singer's face from close range when she was on stage, in some kind of protest. Not only had he not realised he'd be recognised and outed due to other people filming, but a tweet about it went viral in Indonesia, and was seen over a million times. A grovelling apology was not enough to stop him being sacked by his band. ruclips.net/user/shortsjAVxFdhhbTM

      @@RevStickleback Indonesian punks have a real hard time, as they are seen both by people and the establishment as absolute scum, harassed by cops all the time, and many have been left homeless after the tsunami, as they've lost their home and their family. Anyhow, I'm not justifying him, but I understand how a kid coming from that background will look at them and feel robbed by a group looking like the quintessential fashion punks. I like their music to be honest, and Ive reached an age where I don't care if a band is more focused on fashion rather than politics, to be fair fck politics, all it does is dividing us, and furthermore, punk has fallen victim of the woke virus, and Erin final comments about women in punk further proves it, being a buch of absolute nonsense.

      Anyone, you can spot that it when it doesn't feel real.
      There's a big difference from say the Ramones who look like they live in their jackets and bands who focus too much on "looking the part"

      @@robertdowneypeenis6139 Given that you know absolutely nothing about them, their background, or the culture of the scene they play in, what makes you so sure about your assessment? The punk scene in Korea (and some other Asian countries) is much more into this kind of look than the USA, for example, where it's almost frowned upon. Their only difference is that they've gone away from the 'mainly black' style normally adopted there. When the lead signer played in one of the more famous Korean punk band, Rux, her look was similarly subdued. Sure, the spikes are pretty much for on stage only, because they take ages to do, plus other bits and pieces where they turn it up to 11, but that doesn't mean they look like regular Korean women the rest of the time.
