Many boaters fear locks. It's really a very simple and easy process. I moor in Lake Union in Seattle. I need to pass through the busiest lock in the US when ever I go to the salt. The Ballard Locks can hold alot of boats and it can get to be a bit of a rodeo at times. Mainly caused by unprepared boaters. The bigger boats are always put on the wall. My boat is 48 feet so I'm always on the wall and we have to handle the lines. Smaller boaters are then rafted up to the boat on the wall. I've had up to 4 other boats rafted to my boat. Ya never know what your gonna get....
Just discovered your channel a few days ago and have been binging my way through. I'm enjoying the videos and have picked up a couple techniques to roll into videos on my channel. Keep up the good work. A question for you on locking through... was there a "toll" of sorts for going through the locks? Also, were they on some sort of schedule for water conservation?
Thank you for following us, we appreciate your support and kind words 🙏 There is no cost locking through but they do have a schedule. When you pull up to the first lock on either end they will let you know what times they open and there are places to pull off or dolphins to tie up to should you have to spend the night. What is the name of your channel?
First, thanks for watching the video. It means a lot to us. You are correct, red tide is naturally occurring but it is exasperated by fertilizer runoff from the lake. According to a study by the University of Florida, water bound for the River of Grass flows next into Lake Okeechobee, which is polluted by fertilizer runoff from development south of Orlando and large agricultural operations around the lake. The study’s authors then researched the flow from the lake into the Caloosahatchee through the locks starting in Moore Haven. They found that the water was carrying nutrients that feed red tide blooms in the Gulf of Mexico. The good news is that there is an Everglades restoration program that aims first to clean the water and then to redirect it from the lake along its historic path through the swamp and into Florida Bay. This eventually could negate the need to send the polluted water down the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers.

Run off has nothing to do with Red Tide. Please check your facts. Red Tide is natural occurring.
