Totally agree about starting with Eight. I was only interested in finding out how that character developed during the hiatus. Oh man. These radio plays are amazing. And yeah you need a run up to enjoy Zagreaus, it's like the riffs that Grant Morrison plays. Awesome content again mate, my daughters 6 and was playing with her Dr who figures of rose and ten tonight when she smirked and whispered, 'best tardis team!' fantastic!

Ones on Spotify (where I started):
Mutant Phase- first one I listened to. I didn't know Davison or Nyssa at the time so it must work for new beginners.
I Davros- An origin story spin off for the aforementioned creator. Imagine Genesis of the Daleks meets Game of thrones (when it was good?)
Marian Conspiracy- Good introduction to Evelyn Smythe as a companion and Big Finish's approach to the 6th Doctor.
Master- all you need to know is who the Master is.
Colditz- A good start for Klien's story but is a good standalone story.
The 8th Doctor Adventures; start with start with either Storm Warning for Charlie if you prefer classic who's style or Blood of the Daleks if you're more used to New Who.
Holy Terror- A good introduction to Rob Shearman's stories. The best of New Who has pulled ideas from this. And has a talking penguin in.
Eye of the Scorpion/ Church and the Crown- these two in this order are a great introduction to Erimen as a companion and the 5th Doctor. Those two and Peri are the best Tardis Team.
    AVOID NEKROMANTIA- ITS AN ABOMINATION!
    Boxsets:
War Master- The only things you need is to watch Utopia, and its some of the best writing in all of Doctor Who
Classic Doctor's New Monster- good self contained stories with familiar faces. My personal favourite is Night of the Vashta Nerada
The Last Adventure- a good showcase for Big Finish's output with the 6th Doctor. End of the Line is fantastic.
Short stories: Cheap and easy to get through and often really creative. My favourite so far is I am the Master
Unbound- a non-canon, experimental series of what ifs. I'd recommend Deadline.
The Lost Stories- very expensive but if you're a classic who fan who hasn't gotten into Big Finish before these are probably the best bet- some are on spotify- my favourite is the Nightmare Fare.

I struggle with the Lost stories. The style is just completely different to anything else that big finish produces, even the monthly range which supposedly emulates the style of the era of each particular Doctor, and it always feels slightly wrong. And that's without even considering the fact that all of them were rejected by the show runner of the time for a reason.
The Nightmare Fair is probably my least favourite Big Finish of all time.
I do agree with you on the Classic Doctors New Monsters box set. Night of the Vashta Nerada is a fantastic story. I did also like Fallen Angels from box set 1. A much better sequel to blink than The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone, in my opinion.
A good set of stories are the "older" Nyssa stories, set just after Enlightenment, starting with Cobwebs and ending on The Entropy Plague. Basically an older Nyssa, whom has married and has kids, meets the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough whilst searching for a cure for an intergalactic pandemic and rejoins the TARDIS crew while she tries to develop a cure. Highlights include, Cradle of the Snake, The Rat Trap, Kiss of Death, Eldrad Must Die, the Lady of Mercia..... Honestly there isn’t really a bad one among this set of stories.

It’s everything people have been asking for:
    - darker storyline
    - scarier storyline

If they ever decided to make Spare Parts into an episode, I imagine the Cyber Committee would look absolutely horrifying. Emaciated bodies with bits of metal and plastic slapped on them, their organs shown with tubes in them to feed nutrients with, their brains exposed with pins constantly going in and out as if different parts of the brains are being used, and their heads all connected to a structure that looks like the Cyber Planner from troughton’s era. To make them even extra creepy have their eyes and mouths all moving in unison, since the Committee is the amalgamation of 20 of the greatest minds on Mondas.

The very first thing I listened to was Daughter of the Gods. I picked that up on a whim, I saw it advertised on their website and was curious how they were going to do a meeting between the first and second Doctor when both of the actors are dead (Peter Purves and Frazer Hines step up to play both Doctors as well as playing Stephen and Jamie respectively) and I saw that it included Katarina, a character that has always fascinated me. This is an excellent adventure, multi Doctor stories are always good, and it perfectly captures the style of the first and second Doctor adventures, as well as being a lovely tribute to the character of Katarina. This story sums up Big Finish's attitude towards the Doctor Who lore. They so much care and attention to matching the tone of the era they are presenting and fitting everything into the existing lore. From there I was instantly hooked and went looking for more to listen to.
Next, I went for Blood of the Daleks and whizzed through the entire Lucie Miller collection before moving on to anything else. I think this is the best place to start especially for new who fans as it follows the same 45 minute episode structure with an overt running theme that builds to a major climax every 6-7 episodes, whilst also referencing classic who lore to steadily introduce the wider universe.

There are many excellent stories I've listened to but for me, listening to a boring or bad audio feels much more like a chore to me than sitting through a bad episode.
So there are many more audio stories than episodes I didn't enjoy and I'd call "bad".
I should probably just search for the great ones and listen to them and let the others be.

As someone who’s starting with just the audio stories on Spotify (mostly to get a feel for em before wanting to commit to buying others and get Classic Who content), definitely agree with not starting on the multi Doctor story first. I’m referring to Sirens of Time here.
I liked the story but I felt like I needed to know the voices of each Doctor first before listening to that one. (Davison and Baker sounded very similar to me on first listen.) I only had light familiarity with those Docuors before listening, so probably what I could’ve did was listen to other stories with just one of em then went back to Sirens of Time.
I’ll definitely check some of these out when I get the chance as I had bought one story awhile back and liked it. (Given, it was a Torchwood story but still…)

Great story, since then I've been wanting to listen to more Big Finish as they have the potential to explore time travel elements that TV Who can't. This is from my experience with Big Finish.
Your first Big Finish audio you won't understand, you'll have no clue what is going on and you'd just get lost amongst it all. The more Big Finish you listen to the easier it is so if anyone here hasn't listened to any and decides to start, don't stop after your first audio, either re listen to it or pick up another one.

Then I did Charley, and it felt like practically a whole other continuity. Same with all the other companion jumping-on points - they're so standalone and perfectly consumable in chunks! Zagreus sits inside your head,
    Zagreus lives among the dead,
Zagreus sees you in your bed,
And eats you when you're sleeping.
Zagreus at the end of days,
    Zagreus lies all other ways,
Zagreus comes when time's a maze,
And all of history is weeping.
    Zagreus taking time apart,
    Zagreus fears the hero heart,
    Zagreus seeks the final part,
The reward that he is reaping.
Zagreus sings when all is lost,
Zagreus takes all those he's crossed,
Zagreus wins and all it cost,
    The hero's hearts he's keeping.
    Zagreus seeks the hero's ship,
Zagreus needs the web to rip,
Zagreus sucks time at a drip,
    And life aside, he's sweeping.
Zagreus waits at the end of the world,
For Zagreus is the end of the world.
His time is the end of time,
    And his moment time's undoing.

So I'm a bit crazy and have been working on an Excel spreadsheet of ALL Dr Who stories I can find recommended (either by you or Joshua Snares or the internet in general). Includes Big Finish, TV Episodes, books and even a couple highly recommended fan-made ones (I'm looking at you Exhausted Supplies) and I've tried my best to line them up in chronological order (for the most part, I've made a couple of exceptions). My goal is that once you've finished your Best and Worst Of series, I'll have the definitive list to engage all the great Dr Who stories, from the 1st to the 12th (not including 13th until her run has finished, or never, depends on if the quality improves) both for myself and any future fans dedicated enough to try this monumental challenge with me. If you're interested in looking at it Sam, let me know, I'd love your stamp of approval on it
