I love how people still think everyone was happy at the beginning of homestuck. Dave wasn't. And not just because of his stoic demeanor, this kid was SUFFERING. There has always been pain in homestuck, whether blood was visible or not.
I don't think you've ever been abused especially by a parent. Don't ever say that to a kid who was abused irl. And I honestly think dave under exaggerates
He's 16 when he tells his story, going on 17 probably. And just because you experienced your awful situation doesn't make it anyone elses situation lesser. And dirk ABSOLUTELY is abusive. 100% Dirk even admits to being abusive so? And honestly sorry you experience what you have, I've gone through experiences of hell as well and I've learned that no one's experience is too little or too small. You can't use your experiences to belittle others, I say this not in context of a character but actual people. Dave was thrown down a flight of stairs and told to get back up and keep fighting, that's serious fucking shit. Also he's had 13 years of that. 13 years of abuse. We only see a day of it.
i think it's more of how precise. hitting hard with a sword would just pierce the shirt, striking precisely enough to simply damage the artwork is somethin else.
I feel like when in part 2 of dave's fight the music drops in quality and goes all fuzzy, it's as if to say dave's going numb to this. As if it's getting repetitive and he's used to this as a common occurence, a 30 year old man beating him into the ground :^(
I just realized- in Round 2, Bro points down and, in response, Dave threatens decapitation with a smuppet head he got from the microwave. Fast-forward to the post-scratch universe, and Dirk decapitates himself....... with a microwave.
Bro is easily one of the greatest supporting characters I've seen in media. His incredible strength, abilities, and amazing amount of respect and honor is astounding to say the least. Dave had a great guardian to teach him, and it shows flawlessly in his battle and character development. You did good, Bro. You did better than I could have imagined. And may you rest in peace.
“Honey! We have to leave there are meteors falling outside one could hit us!” “But... what about the striders they’re fighting on the roof again” “Serves them right if they get hit by a meteor, because of them I haven’t slept for a week over their noise”
Bro, and Dave use a combination of street fighting, various forms of martial arts, ninja skills, and general awesome cool guy fighting. The strifes w/ bro are by far the best in the series :D
cyberwolfy37 Only someone with power over space can teleport. As the Prince of Heart and Knight of Time, neither of them have the power to teleport. But Bro is a flash step puppeteer and he taught Dave the same moves. They just move really fast. That's different from teleportation, which is instantaneous.
That's the greatest question of this all, isn't it? Is Bro in the right for doing this to Dave, in the end? Is he doing this for some sick pleasure, or because he believes it is the right thing to do? Does he believe that Dave has a problem with escaping from conflicts that he can't avoid, or for learning about his place? I believe that Bro's character still did everything he did specifically for Dave. To him, Dave was his younger brother. He was the kid he needed to protect, even if that meant that he was sometimes harsh or even brutal to him. When he meets up with Davesprite, they resolve to fight Bec Noir together, even with the knowledge that they can only fight on equal footing. Perhaps Bro truly is abusive. But is that all there is to his character? Was Vriska running Tavros through all their was to her? (Speaking of abusive relationships....) I am the eldest brother of three boys. I helped my mom to raise the other two of them. Would I ever beat the ever living crap out of them with a sword and my elbows? No, I would not. But you know what I would do? I would make them realize that there is more to life then seeing things as we want to see them. I protect them, in many ways. Sometimes my ways are wrong. Sometimes I don't understand them. Sometimes they treat me wrongly as well. However, for all that, if I could teach them to have passion towards valuable things, to encourage them to stride towards something greater.. At the end of the day, Dave still wields a sword. He still finds Bro's dead body. He still wields Caldefwelch. And more than anything else, he knows he will never be the man his brother is. There are parts of me that I hope my brothers never adopt. Such is life.
Foam katanas/stick katanas or worse yet, simulated in Lego Star Wars, but yes. It happened. Conflict is part of human nature, and those of us who have endured the world's abuse and suffered from it do not want those we consider our brothers to be hurt from it in the same way... Perhaps.
I like to think this was a fight to see if Dave was ready for what was in store in the Medium, it makes sense if you think about it, roughing Dave up would toughen him up for the things that happen later on down the line, including against Jack.
i think there were a few reasons as to why Bro raised Dave like this. Lil Cal being one of them, Sburb being another, and Lord English being a really big one.
Bro requested for Dave to bring Lil Cal though. He left a note for Dave saying: "bro. roof. now. bring cal". This is seen in [S] Dave: Ascend to the highest top of the building.
Kyler Blake Even if he hadn't brought Lil Cal he still would have lost. Bro was at the top of his echeladder, while Dave was only a few rungs higher than everyone else at the time.
I like how you can just see a blur in the background which is Bro moving Cal . And when it slows down and you can see Bro using Cal to kick Dave, AWESOME.
I always had mixed feelings about Bro. He was a dick no getting around that, I saw it from the beginning. But I liked him as a character, and got upset when he died. Like when the villain gets defeated, but they were a really good villain.
But nah, Bro is awesome. I mean he litteratly saves Dave's ass (After kicking it) several times. Without him, neither Dave, nor Rose would have survived. And by that extension neither would have John, with the Pch00000ing to the denizen bullshit from Terezi, so then Jade wouldn't have survived. Bro just saved the alpha timeline. That's really all there is to say on the matter.
@Blaperile not really actually he may be dave's "father" but in reality john is EVERYONES father since john made ALL of them using slime. so for what its worth yes bro strider is indeed dave striders brother despite rasing john.
It's kinda sad that (theorized by dave) bro only raised dave as some sort of ultimate expression of psychopathic irony. I like to believe Dave was right in (again theorizing) that owning lil cal for so long drove bro insane (like a Harry Potter horcrux, which the comic references alot)
@@eleventhswag truth, probably just before the doc scratch part. I still think that's peak. Hussy stops himself from ruining homestuck long enough to actually explore something cool. Then cascade breaks new grounds. And page 1 of act 6 is noticeably worse on impact.
Guys, none of you bat an eyelid when you saw the "abuse" earlier in homestuck. BECAUSE ITS HOMESTUCK. John doesn't even know what putting something down is. All the kids didnt have names into their thirteenth birthday, because its a world designed to be funny and cool, not realistic.
that doesn't mean it can't have realistic themes, and dave's abuse was very much realistic. even if homestuck is mostly comedic, it goes into pretty deep ideas.
I've actually got a lil fanon theory that this isn't Dirk we're seeing raising Dave, but Lil Hal. Without the friends in the alpha timeline to show him how much of an asshole he was, he continued down the path of self-obsession and over efficiency. He's had those Lil Hal glasses on for so long he basically became the emotionless AI he created, losing any sense of empathy and only caring about making Dave stronger regardless of how much he was abusing the kid.
Everyone doesn't seem to realize that they're watching child abuse. Bro, a 30 year-old man, is beating up a child with not only a freak puppet but also with his bare hands. When he told Dave to come up to the roof and being Cal, Dave was going to get his daily beating. And when he slashes the Abscond command in half, he's basically saying that he can't leave until he's finished with him. But it's not like this comic ever touches on real world problems, right? Naw, Homestuck is all idealized situations that never could happen in the real world! Now let's go back to watching a kid get his ass beaten by someone he has zero chance against.
I literally typed up a damn near three paragraph explanation on all of this nonsense you're spouting before I realized...it's nonsense. You look at Homestuck, and it's nonsense. From what I understand these kids are in a videogame world where they're semi-infallible gods up against inane adversaries after being brought up by-and get this, because it confuses the shit out of me-themselves. Pretty sure it's self-harm. Blegh, 3am and all my common sense flies out the window.
StrayRaver Andrew Hussie himself said this. In the Homestuck books, when Dave and Bro strifed, he commented on how this is not a healthy relationship at all, and that a boy is getting beaten up by a man thrice his size. He even knew people would stay in denial about it.
StrayRaver Here's the exact quote from Homestuck Book 3: "In round two of Dave’s strife, he tries to escape from the relentless puppet pummeling, but bro slashes the ABSCOND command, just like he sliced all the other battle commands in round one. The message is clear. Dave can’t escape until he has been dealt the requisite daily helping of domestic abuse, wait I mean ninja training. What did I say there? Nothing. It was nothing. Homestuck is a lighthearted and funny cartoon dealing in highly abstract and stylized household situations, and nothing about it shall evoke the gritty realities experienced every day by real life victims of abuse. Now let’s watch this 30-something year old man pound the daylights out of his adopted 13 year old brother and biological son."
Form This Way Dave was prepared for the game because constantly fighting someone you can't beat helps you be able to fight against opponents that are less powerful. The adults are hinted in many places to know about the game. Bro did what he did so that Dave could defend himself. Bro never took it too far, just up to the point where Dave could be considered 'defeated' in honorable and open combat. This was a fight between unequal combatants for training purposes, not abuse.
Chameleonred5 It doesn't excuse his behavior. If John, incapable of wielding a sledgehammer in the beginning, was able to get through the game and end up the most powerful of everybody, then Dave didn't need it.
*Sighs* Honey those kids are fighting on the roof again.

I can no longer take Bro's death seriously... Thanks ;)
I hate you for telling me this
Caliborn dabs at the sight of bro dying
it's funny...Dave WAS so bad in comparison to bro at the beginning, whereas now he could kick bros ass
I'm pretty sure he would still get destroyed.
He used a blunt piece of shit to cut down a meteor, and slam said sword into the Beat Mesa, where only the Quills of Echidna (a DENIZEN) could scratch.
+Weird Caster Bro's sword is a juju. It's unbreakable, that how he could use the sword on the beat mesa.
+William Boysen it's still a blunt sword.
How do you damage anything with a blunt sword.
Weird Caster thought motherfucking shenanigans
+Weird Caster Dave could totally win, albeit the fight would be somewhat close, Bro died to Bec noir in seconds with the help of Davesprite, Dave lasted a pretty long time against 2 bec blurs with 0 help, all on his own, I think Dave would totally win
I love how people still think everyone was happy at the beginning of homestuck. Dave wasn't. And not just because of his stoic demeanor, this kid was SUFFERING. There has always been pain in homestuck, whether blood was visible or not.
Is Dave a domestic abuse victim? I can't tell.
+Edmond Castri Ah honey oh baby just keep reading son just keep reading oh child oh baby
+dadisfad I just finished. Dave seems to be over exaggerating.
It's really awesome until you consider Bro is wearing crocs
Sain ik this is like super duper late but he's not wearing crocs, he's wearing convers
Old lady bro: Those are my CROCS
HE IS !? 💀 LMAOOAOAOAO
I always saw it as converse but the idea of Bro sword fighting in crocs is my favorite thing ever
They are crocs now. It's canon. @@roastedcocoaa

What vague foreshadowing..
It's so infuriating seeing these knowing WHO is trapped in lil cal
What do Davesprite and Bro have in common?
Where they keep their swords.
What do Marco Bodt and Eridan have in common?
STOP IT
STOP NOW
STOP DONT SPEAK
Let's not forget what Mami, Dirk, Celty and Kaworu have in common.
U monster....
carcinoGeneticist H.S. original Jack survived the whole series along with Pm
That...Is not okay.
Years in the future (but not many) Dave manages to kick Bro's ass as well as Lord English's possession of Jack and Jack with LE's staff
How hard do you have to hit someone to break the artwork on their shirt?
i think it's more of how precise. hitting hard with a sword would just pierce the shirt, striking precisely enough to simply damage the artwork is somethin else.
sometimes i wonder how their neighbours reacted to se them on the roof
forestdeity probably "honey call the cops he is abusing that child again"
Bro Strider: Making child abuse badass since 1995
0:57 foreshadowing.
oH MY SHIT

Nicole Maj X2 remember the credits
your going to have to decapitate me
LMAO, I noticed that too! Crazy shit
so, bro is so skilled with the sword, that he can even cut the logo of a shirt....k
Mega Bichi wrong I AM SO SKILLED WITH THE SWORD THAT I CAN SHAVE MY BALLS WITH IT WITH OUT CUTING THEM OFF
Dirk Strider ... How does one practice such a thing without cutting them off xD? Or are you so amazing you didn't need practice o-O ?
-Face palm- You practice with a wooden sword -_-
But anyway i am so amazing that i don't need to practice.
I practice ironically ◥▶◀◤

Bro's got those mettaton EX legs going on
CAL, god damn you screw stuff up You caused Gamzee to go on rampage mode prob. caused true dirk to go insane, and Overall screwed everything up.
I love how it's just bro moving cal while moving at hyperspeed.
I feel like when in part 2 of dave's fight the music drops in quality and goes all fuzzy, it's as if to say dave's going numb to this. As if it's getting repetitive and he's used to this as a common occurence, a 30 year old man beating him into the ground :^(
Bro may be an abusive sack of shit, but he's a badass ninja abusive sack of shit.
+Superb Temminator (Rich historic supertem) *bro
Edmond Castri gonna edit that out. Don't say anything. Shhhhhhhhhhhh
+Superb Temminator (Rich historic supertem) gotcha 👍8^ y
+Lunnefisk that's just the converter dropping in quality. but your theory is still pretty neat anyway.
I just realized- in Round 2, Bro points down and, in response, Dave threatens decapitation with a smuppet head he got from the microwave.
Fast-forward to the post-scratch universe, and Dirk decapitates himself....... with a microwave.
dave then later decapitates him
CAN'T ABSCOND, BRO!
Cosplaybuddygiraffes and he abused dave
Zbluenoob *sharp inhale*
I beg to differ pal
“Honey! We have to leave there are meteors falling outside one could hit us!”
“But... what about the striders they’re fighting on the roof again”
“Serves them right if they get hit by a meteor, because of them I haven’t slept for a week over their noise”
Bro, and Dave use a combination of street fighting, various forms of martial arts, ninja skills, and general awesome cool guy fighting. The strifes w/ bro are by far the best in the series :D
agreed
all member of the strider family know how to do flash step and teleportation in battle
cyberwolfy37
Only someone with power over space can teleport. As the Prince of Heart and Knight of Time, neither of them have the power to teleport. But Bro is a flash step puppeteer and he taught Dave the same moves. They just move really fast. That's different from teleportation, which is instantaneous.
Yerps
Oops. My bad.
I'm changing it now.
Bro and Dave
much abuse
very love
much Bro
Very Dave
..
yes
(Speaking of abusive relationships....)
I am the eldest brother of three boys. Such is life.
but that's what I did
beat the crap out of my two little brothers with katanas
Foam katanas/stick katanas or worse yet, simulated in Lego Star Wars, but yes. It happened. Conflict is part of human nature, and those of us who have endured the world's abuse and suffered from it do not want those we consider our brothers to be hurt from it in the same way... Perhaps.
jj12343211 it was his sick training method for The game
oh gog whenever i hear "descend" i always get goosebumps
bro:*beats the crap outta dave*
also bro:*flys away epicly*
I like to think this was a fight to see if Dave was ready for what was in store in the Medium, it makes sense if you think about it, roughing Dave up would toughen him up for the things that happen later on down the line, including against Jack.
i think there were a few reasons as to why Bro raised Dave like this. Lil Cal being one of them, Sburb being another, and Lord English being a really big one.
Ends with Lil Cal dabbing, classic
IM GETTING THE FEELS FROM THE START OF THIS OMG
2:10 I love how it shows his symbol shattered it's so
cool
I love how Bro puppets Lil Cal but when Dirk inherits Cal it turns out he's really a JuJu of terrible misfortune.
i think Dave shouldnt have took lil'cal to bro or his ass wouldnt have been kicked
Bro requested for Dave to bring Lil Cal though. He left a note for Dave saying: "bro. roof. now. bring cal". This is seen in [S] Dave: Ascend to the highest top of the building.
Blaperile But Dave has had the shit beat out of him his whole life for makeing that same mistake
Kyler Blake
Even if he hadn't brought Lil Cal he still would have lost. Bro was at the top of his echeladder, while Dave was only a few rungs higher than everyone else at the time.
well bro could like in the middle of the fight grab Cal sense he is so quick
Bro the goat brahhh
THE MUSIC IS AWESOME OKAY

To think that this was the prototype to the final battle...
R.I.P. Bro. You were the best puppeteer I ever did see.
Bro is such an badass.
Sollux Captor Thanks B/
oh my god this didnt age well at all
@@waheey soooooooo... Are you gonna comment that same thing again and again in order to trigger homestuck's fan ? That's quite shitty dude
Gabriel P what?
That's really all there is to say on the matter.
sure, he helped the story progress, but he was by no means awesome. he still abused dave.
Literally me.
This was literally the first thing I saw from homeatuck
In 2021? That's what I like to see
Went outside and just saw this, man I hate living in Sesto San Giovanni
If Bro had a beat(like a weapon), his image would be a cool reference to OFF(the game), which came out before the homestuck comic.
@Blaperile not really actually he may be dave's "father" but in reality john is EVERYONES father since john made ALL of them using slime. so for what its worth yes bro strider is indeed dave striders brother despite rasing john.
Well, there goes my favorite character.
this explains middleschool. how.
also this is one hell of a mood in general
I realized today that Hussie probably based these strifes on the "sprite fight" videos that used to be so popular on Newgrounds
Still the most badass 3 round strife in homestuck.
It's kinda sad that (theorized by dave) bro only raised dave as some sort of ultimate expression of psychopathic irony. I like to believe Dave was right in (again theorizing) that owning lil cal for so long drove bro insane (like a Harry Potter horcrux, which the comic references alot)
im not gonna say Bro was in the right, but he did what he could, of what he know he could do, he still choose to save dave, and even die for him.
8 People couldn't handle how cool Dave Strider is.
God remember when Homestuck didn't suck shit.
It lowkey started sucking near cascade
@@eleventhswag truth, probably just before the doc scratch part. I still think that's peak. Hussy stops himself from ruining homestuck long enough to actually explore something cool.
Then cascade breaks new grounds. And page 1 of act 6 is noticeably worse on impact.
@@CraftyChicken91 caliborn was the only reason why i finished act 6

Watching this really helps me appreciate just how badass Dirk is
1:31 woah wtf. is that like, a ghost?
Bro is too damn fast that he creates solid after images, he's basically at 2 places at the same time he's that fast
amazing video the BRO of dave is equaly awesome as he -w-
Average mexican father experience
I love bros fighting style for one reason.
that
puppet.
Isn’t Bro abusive due to Lil Cal or his influence on Bro? I don’t really know if it’s a theory or solid thing but I would figure otherwise.
Yeah, Lil Cal influenced and corrupted him to make him the piece of shit that he was.
@@tape2518 So originally it wasn’t his fault but kinda was cuz Bro/Dirk was like assuredly already a dick, right?
The way cal kicks dave ass is hilarious!!!!!
Jerry Booker also abusive!
Sick flashes, Bro & Dave are sick
Ok but Bro literally CUT A METEOR IN HALF AND GOT HIMSELF KILLED just to buy Dave some time don't say he didn't care about Dave
bro cared about dave, but his actions were still abusive.
Some fluid animation, looks cool.
I don’t think lil Hal literally exists but that’s still an interesting take
I can see bro being lil’ Hal in a metaphorical way
Better than most animations today.
StrayRaver Here's the exact quote from Homestuck Book 3:
"In round two of Dave’s strife, he tries to escape from the relentless puppet pummeling, but bro slashes the ABSCOND command, just like he sliced all the other battle commands in round one.
