Dirk is out here looking like the 5th pillarman. This dude was actually just training Dave so that Dave could learn how to fight all of the other pillarmen.
This theme fits Ultimate Dirk better than any other I can think of. It's heavy and bombastic, full of swagger and sheer arrogance. Perfect for one as assured of his own superiority as Ultimate Dirk.
at least Ult Dirk can back up his bark with his bite. if he can't slice you to pieces with his "unbreakable" katana, he can just rip your soul out instead.
i like that ultimate dirk's theme being a more bombastic version of bro strider's strife theme implies that regardless of everything, he still evolved into the same narcissistic ultra powerful semi-antagonistic motherfucker in the end
Loving how this flips the Motif of Beatdown and really pulls you into the perspective of the kind of person Bro was/UltDirk is Powerful. In control. Important. Better than you, Damn well sure of it. Making sure you know it too.
Ok so I had a really fucking wack idea out of nowhere So you know how Dirk is able to rap pretty well? Along with how he can change the narrative? And you know how MSPAR has been helping Chixe with her raps and now has power over the Pesterquest timeline as a first guardian? Consider: Dirk and MSPA have a narrative power rap battle where their rhymes literally change the reality they’re in Epic rap battles of narrative history
Was absolutely terrified of Ult. Dirks role in pesterchum. Ended up giving this a listen one day and then proceeded to have a dream of Ultimate Dirk attempting to kill me, I guess he really struck a cord in my subconscious
Yours is a singularity of narcissism-an endlessly recursive existence so dense that it has no choice but to sprawl out much further than the boundaries of its person in any given universe or timeline. I can see it.....
DIRK: I'm either gonna drown you in a cup of water to put you out of your dehydrated misery, or you're gonna march your dry ass into the kitchen and make like a sponge.
Both vriska and dirk have no desire to be better than they are but at least dirk owns his villainy and doesn't delude himself into thinking he's a good guy.
Dirk is a decent person who didn't know how to interact with other people. Ultimate Dirk is the culmination of every version of him ever, including Bro Strider, and through AR, Lord English. That's why Ultimate Dirk is such an asshole compared to Homestuck Dirk Vriska did horrendous things to survive because that's how Troll culture was. In the end, she got her shit together, and while she's still a huge bitch, she's not a villain.
Respectfully, did you read any of act 5 or 6? Dirk expresses over and over and over again that he doesnt want to be a dick, and tries his best to improve when he can, and Vriska goes on a multi-page ramble near the end of act 5 about how she knows she's a bad person and hates the things she's had to do to survive. Both of them don't think they're worthy of getting better, that's not the same as having no desire to be better, and both of them are trying to do the right thing, but have never been allowed the space to improve to do so.
I love this song but I remember the original video's picture was of a beat up kid dave in Bro's shadow... who keeps letting the anime man around children :((
well at least with the way ult dirk acts, we can official rule out cal influencing him to act that way. As it turns out, Dirk is just an asshole in almost every timeline despite outside influences
Um....lol.....you do realize that because of the AR splinter, he is technically STILL being affected by Cal's influence, right? The whole point of this route was to tell you that Dirk is extremely susceptible to outside manipulation and his soul is at risk of corruption from the Ultimate Self, not that he's inherently evil :/
@@pseudosaccharine9891 orrrrrr that he's destined to be corrupted and IS therefore inherently evil due to a clear willingness to be swayed towards bastard-ness? Or that it's homestuck and therefore it's entirely up to interpretation. :D

I love how overpowering this song sounds. Like you just messed with something much more powerful than yourself, something beyond your own comprehension, and now you're about to get your shit wrecked.

It's brutal. Heavy. Oppressive. A force that can't be fought, whether by virtue of its strength or your own weakness is irrelevant. It's a remix of Beatdown, which was Beta Bro's theme. And all I can see is a young boy laying on his roof after getting his ass kicked by his older brother.
I think what's nice about the pesterquest offshoot timeline and why the epilogues and ^2 are so frustrating to the kind of fans that mspar represents in pesterquest is that all these kids could've been given the opportunity to be their best selves, they all should have had the chance to grow up normally and be happy. But many of them don't, or they struggle to become their best serves through the adversity, where most of them inevitably fail. They deserved a happy ending, but the universe said no. The story said no. The author, the director, whoever currently holds the reigns on this ride at any given point said no. Ult Dirk is the best example, second best example I'd say is Jane, though i think her starting point was never so wholesome as Dirk's. Dirk splinters his own psyche in hopes of understanding himself, but only his worst traits survive by the end and recoalesce into the most overbearing and toxic version of himself possible. Edit: I don't give pre-SBURB Jane enough credit, she was a sweetheart too, if really hardheaded. And Dirk even as a teen had some of Bro's abusive tough love training in him with how he treated Jake. Stunted that poor boy's ability to.develop with his training bot "gift".
Thinking about it, the role of a crazed, narrative altering villain seems to fit vriska way more than dirk. Dirks whole ark revolves around him overcoming his flaws and self hatred. Vriskas ark seemed to revolve around her understanding how awful she's been to her friends and those around her, and unlearning what alternia taught her. She overcomes her trauma and spends her days with meena in the dream bubbles, dropping her whole schtick to defeat lord English as her warped view of redemption and being a hero. That is, until her alpha self comes in and rips everything away from her, before acting as a deus ex machina and pretty much plans out how the finale goes down, with her taking down the big bad. She destroys any semblance of growth to be a hero. She literally hijacks the narrative for her favor and continues to hurt those around her (when tavros gets an army via asking around for help, she ridicules him, despite him being a huge help, though I am sure there are other examples) For a story revolving around taking down those who've unjustly made their way to power to establish their will, vriska sure seems to fit that description to a T. Plus, isn't it a running gag for light players to alter the text of the story? It seems so weird to force jane and Dirk into the roles of a villain, when vriska seems like the perfect fit? Like she's manipulative and self centered, which seems like all the traits they forced on Dirk to fit the role of a villain???
Probably its just me being dumb, but i still cant understand why Dirk become villain. Like, everything was fine, but then, at some point, he decided to make some bigass plan with destroying of 4'th wall and commit suicide in one of the time lines. Just why?
@@user-vu9ug4vb3u you see, here's the thing. There WAS no reason for Dirk to become the villain. It was just bad writing. Supposedly it was because if they was removed from canon, his life held no meaning, so he forced the story to happen by BEING the villain. Another reason I think vriska fits so much better is that Dirk had no interest in being relevant until then- unlike vriska, who's whole THING is being relevant as the thief of light. It's a mess, there was no reason for Dirk to be a villain, god hates us.
@@CaribouGutSludge @ЯД The reason dirk became a villain was pretty clearly outlined in Meat-- as a player of Heart, he had always been more "in tune" with his alternate selves from other timelines, since the Heart aspect has to do with the soul and the "essence" of a person. He even says that much in Homestuck proper, when he and Dave have their heart to heart (heh) about Dave's terrible upbringing-- he explains to Dave that he _does_ feel responsible, because he's in tune enough with his "splinters" that he can see Bro _in_ him, even if the Dirk Strider we knew and loved would never do anything like that. Truth be told, the Dirk Strider we knew and loved _wouldn't_ have ever become the new big bad of the story, but Dirk was ceasing to be _just_ the version of him that we knew. The fully realized powers and latent abilities he had as a God Tier of Heart, combined with becoming unbound by canon, caused him to become more and more attuned to his other selves, which was what caused his "ascension" to "Ultimate Dirk"-- essentially causing him to transform into the ultimate culmination of every possible incarnation of him to ever exist. Unfortunately, "every possible incarnation of him to ever exist" includes both Bro _and_ *_Lord English,_* because ARquiusprite was one of the "ingredients" that got sealed inside of Lil' Cal during the human kids' climactic battle with Caliborn. Not to mention, Dirk says explicitly multiple times in his tête-a-tête with Dave that he could easily have imagined him turning out much worse barring several decisions he made in the canon timeline. Who _knows_ how many Dirks there were out in doomed timelines and dream bubbles that could have been awful too, further tipping the scales in Ultimate Dirk towards villaindom? *TL;DR* Dirk wasn't just Dirk anymore when he went off the deepend. He was connecting to and more-or-less involuntarily assimilating all his "splinters" (which includes both Bro and Lord English) via his fully-realized and overwhelming Heart powers.
Jane still feels like a stretch, though. Like I get the whole message about how all the players' interpersonal relationships going to shit in the Epilogues was because they were failing so catastrophically as a community with each other-- not checking up on each other, not wanting to confront each other for fearing of stirring up drama, thus letting everybody stew in their own juices and eventually become the worst versions of themselves... but it still feels like kind of a stretch that she would go so far off the deep end. Maybe it's something to do with her Condesce-monitored upbringing. Ultimate Dirk makes perfect sense, though. It's unfortunate, but it does. You just gotta think about it a little harder, get in tune with matters of the _soul_
@@ThePoltergust5000 yeah okay naw that actually checks out? It sucks that I have nothing as lengthy as a reply other than like It makes sense that he's a villain in story, it just feels frustrating because it's like the authors are giving excuses to make Dirk the villain and forcing vriska to be a good guy. Like, you can't tell me the idea of the ultimate self wasn't made up for the epilogue. This would be fine if it wasn't a tool to be like "hey look at this guy he's BAD and look at jane too she's an abuser" acting like vriska ain't just as bad. Tldr The ultimate self is a cool concept and you are right: in the context of the ultimate self, it makes sense that he's a bad guy. But not in the story as a whole.
thinking about what dave's internal reaction to ult dirk must've been after having a heart-to-heart with him in homestuck about how bad his bro was dirk saying he would never become like him
Beatdown was never Dave's song, was it? It was Dirk's. And in that way, having Dirk's song lampshading Dave's journey like so much triangular dark plastic is...

like there's no avoiding it.
That's why Ultimate Dirk is such an asshole compared to Homestuck Dirk
Vriska did horrendous things to survive because that's how Troll culture was. In the end, she got her shit together, and while she's still a huge bitch, she's not a villain.
@@anidiot9831 She directly and purposefully facilitated the creation of the stories main conflict, she is, by definition, a villain.
Both Vriska and Dirk have very much have the desire to be better than they are. Did we read the same webcomic?
Respectfully, did you read any of act 5 or 6? Dirk expresses over and over and over again that he doesnt want to be a dick, and tries his best to improve when he can, and Vriska goes on a multi-page ramble near the end of act 5 about how she knows she's a bad person and hates the things she's had to do to survive.
Both of them don't think they're worthy of getting better, that's not the same as having no desire to be better, and both of them are trying to do the right thing, but have never been allowed the space to improve to do so.

well at least with the way ult dirk acts, we can official rule out cal influencing him to act that way.

It's a remix of Beatdown, which was Beta Bro's theme.

Also this remix has made me like Ult Dirk more unironically.
but it's an old remix,,
@@ubiquitouszergio4267 I realized that after, it was new to me
You sure thats not because Ult Dirk told you you did?
I already have been simping for dirk but his pesterquest sprites really made me a sIMP
JANEY!!!

@@Weezettegirl
Hii Janey!!
YES
She literally hijacks the narrative for her favor and continues to hurt those around her (when tavros gets an army via asking around for help, she ridicules him, despite him being a huge help, though I am sure there are other examples)
For a story revolving around taking down those who've unjustly made their way to power to establish their will, vriska sure seems to fit that description to a T.
@@CaribouGutSludge @ЯД
The reason dirk became a villain was pretty clearly outlined in Meat-- as a player of Heart, he had always been more "in tune" with his alternate selves from other timelines, since the Heart aspect has to do with the soul and the "essence" of a person.
It sucks that I have nothing as lengthy as a reply other than like
It makes sense that he's a villain in story, it just feels frustrating because it's like the authors are giving excuses to make Dirk the villain and forcing vriska to be a good guy.
Like, you can't tell me the idea of the ultimate self wasn't made up for the epilogue.
This would be fine if it wasn't a tool to be like "hey look at this guy he's BAD and look at jane too she's an abuser" acting like vriska ain't just as bad.
Tldr
The ultimate self is a cool concept and you are right: in the context of the ultimate self, it makes sense that he's a bad guy. But not in the story as a whole.
